Since we already pay for their home service plus plan, I tried to wait it out in the sweltering heat with my two young boys and husband whose job requires him to sleep during the day. I finally gave up on Center Point and called McAlister after a great recommendation from a friend. McAlister's service technician showed up by lunch time the SAME DAY, and not only did he repair our air conditioner on the spot, but he diagnosed a problem with the unit that Center Point had specifically told us was not an issue. We slept comfortably in a cool house that evening, and were very pleased with the quality of service as well as the reasonable pricing. I'm going to cancel our home service plus and use McAlister from now on.

Although their bid was $2500 higher than the other 2 I chose it because Ryan McAlister, the owner, told me he would use low profile technology (we have a low ceiling in the basement) and run supplies and returns to every room. Imagine my surprise when I come home to find a huge 20" x 14" hole in my living room floor! He had changed the scope of work from individual returns to a central return without my permission. In the basement was another surprise. He had used these huge ducts that most people have to duck under when going through my finished basement. In addition they were horrible about returning calls and showing up when they said they would. They also screwed up in the kitchen costing me another $100. But of course they wouldn't even discuss a refund. These people were a nightmare. Avoid them like the plague!

He showed up on time and we discussed the project thoroughly. Knowing he is a Veteran backed by Trust Vets cinched it that this was the guy I wanted fixing up the biggest investment of my life. Jerry is clearly a master in his field, and a great guy to have around on a project. I know who I'll be calling when I'm ready to tackle my kitchen...oh boy, here I go again!

Exceptionally hot, whirlwind summer week when our air conditioner decided it had enough, Rockney from Schwantes Heating showed up and had our AC up and running inside of 30 minutes and on top of it was so pleasant during his service visit - he fixed they entire mood of the house before he went on to save the next person's day. Everything from the initial call, to the service visit (even gave us a a reasonable window to plan for), being able to fix the problem on site, at an extremely reasonable cost and efficiency was how Schwantes became the only call we will make for future needs and the one we will recommend to everyone. Special thank you to Dave and Rockney for exceptional service.

The next step was for them to have a sales person call us and discuss estimates for a new machine. In the meantime we discovered an on/off switch on the back of the machine. It works. Two weeks later I never got a call back. I disputed the charge. They fought that dispute. They must really want that $180.00 so when we called to ask for a refund for basically no services rendered, they insisted on sending someone out again. Another employee looked at the machine and said it works but we have to run it manually. I see no problem with that. We had him look at our thermostat that they installed years ago. I asked him to see about a warranty or replacement. He said a sales person would get back to us. Guess what? Nobody got back to us! I'm out $180 and nobody to check on a warranty for my thermostat! I filed a charge back again but they fought it and somehow won.

I know a plumber back east and he told get rid of the "galvi" ASAP. Um, ok. So I called a few plumbers. Some were really cheap, like do the math and you wonder it takes X days and Y material, how do you stay in business? Another big shop in town was very expensive and seemed like they were adding little things here and there to the estimate. Erickson's guy, Mike, was very nice and was thorough and was clear on not needing things that the other high-priced shop proposed. He explained the residential codes to me and why I did not need certain things. He did preface that this was not going to be cheap. He walked through all the things that needed to be done and how long it took and I realized that this was going to take several days of someone working all day and knocking out walls and ceilings. This was a big project. Their estimate was expensive, but still about 15% lower than one of the other big guys in town. But, I got a good feeling about them. So I gave Erickson the work. They came in an installed pex and ripped out all the galvanized across 3 floors of my house. They did an excellent job and would not hesitate having them back in the future.

Unfortunately I have to write a negative review of Erickson Plumbing. We called about not getting…read morehot water, only lukewarm water, and the first plumber that came out said it was not the water heater and proceeded to change a cartridge in our master shower and charged us $800 for it, which is astronomical for changing a cartridge. He also broke the handle of the shower, reversed the hot and cold directions, and did not tell us it broke. The problem persisted and we continued to have lukewarm water. I called the company and they sent another guy out and he said that our handle was reversed from hot to cold and maybe I had just been using the wrong direction for hot water. Readers, I am not an idiot and know very well what direction is hot and cold in my own shower and what changed with the plumber. He didn't know what the problem was either. I called Erickson and they asked if they could make it right. I made it clear that I will not pay another dime and I expected money back if it ended up being an issue that would have cost me less than $800. They verbally agreed over the phone. They agreed they had misidentified the issue and it was on them to fix it. Erickson sent out a THIRD plumber and he looked at our water heater, said it was a pipe that needed cleaned out, cleaned it out and et voila, we had hot water so it was an easy fix. Afterwards I called to settle with them and see what they could refund me since it did end up being an easy fix and not worth a whopping $800. They refused to refund any of the $800 saying they had spent a lot of time on the issue and going back on their word and original mea culpa that it was their issue and pledge to make it right with me. It should absolutely not be on my dime if they couldn't figure out the problem until the third try and they also absolutely took me for a ride charging me $800 to begin with. I worked with them on good faith to fix the problem expecting them to make it right with me in the end since they were at fault for misidentifying the issue, not fixing it, charging me $800 for not fixing it, and breaking my handle at that. They would not budge and would not give one penny back, which is frankly horrible business. Be prepared to be taken for a ride if you work with them and pay way more than expected and gamble at even getting your problem solved, then lied to afterwards. Hire at your own peril.
