The entire staff was warm, welcoming, and ready to help. They had multiple raffles going on--and we were lucky enough to win one! This business was recommended to me by a close family member. I attempted to sell my diamond engagement ring. It was a 1.07 ct diamond in a 14k yellow gold Tiffany setting. Great color and clarity. Good Old Gold in Massapequa - Two Thumbs Down! I have literally spent thousands of dollars at this store. Recently I paid over $2,000 to upgrade to a new wedding band. A stone fell out within the first 3 years I had it. My original wedding band bought elsewhere is 42 years old and never had a stone fall out. I went in to Good Old Gold and they explained it was a design flaw. The gold wasn't thick enough around the edge of the ring to protect the diamonds in the middle Right after they tell me that, they say, "that will be $60!" Ummm, for what? I didn't design the ring with the flaw your designer did! I also explained I paid $35 for my original diamond band 42 years ago and not one single diamond has ever fallen out in 42 years. I also explained to them I'm not a factory worker abusing my hands 7 days a week mining for gold. I'm a grandma that the most exercise my hand gets is turning the storybook pages while I'm reading to my grandkids. Theres no reason a $2,200.00 ring should break at all, but especially so fast! They insisted they will not cover the cost. I think this is horrible customer service selling me an inferior product and then refusing to fix the inferiority. Beware! Good Old Gold in Massapequa does not support their products. I will not return. read more

UPDATE: I went back today (8/22) with PROOF that the ring was different and they still refused to admit fault. I will be filing a police report and taking them to court if need be. I see other people have had good experiences but I need to say how HORRIBLY I was treated, especially by (who I believe is the owner) Helen. I went in to get my engagement ring resized and picked it up today. Number 1, when I picked up my ring it was still too big. Number 2, and what prompted me to write this review, was the fact that some stones were missing from my ring. I went back and forth with multiple people, basically feeling like I had to defend myself when I've been wearing and looking at the ring for 2 years. Then Helen got involved and legitimately screamed at me, saying I was wrong and how they've been in business for however many years and never had anything like this happen, blah blah blah. I said to multiple people that I wasn't accusing anyone of anything and that things happen and I just wanted them to own up to their mistake. Well Helen didn't like that and walked away, also refusing to refund me the money I paid. They said either I come back with proof that they ruined my ring or I'm SOL. Absolutely disgusting business practices and I'll be contacting my lawyer to hold them accountable. read more

I went to Good Old Gold because this is where my brother in law got my sisters engagement ring back in 2018. I went there with the intention of creating a whole custom band for my engagement ring. If you look at the picture labeled "BEFORE" you will see that the basket holding my diamond protrudes out on both sides making it hard to find a wedding band. Sarah helped us, and I will never go to anyone but her from this point forward. She listened, she was personable, and helped any challenges that came across with ease. Sarah recommended that the jeweler would be able to change the setting of my engagement ring so a wedding band can sit flush on BOTH sides, not just one. Please reference "AFTER" photo. This whole team did not disappoint. I am in complete awe in how my engagement ring turned out, that was actually crying. I'm so grateful to everyone here! As we entered, we're told by the grouch at the front door to remove (yes, remove) our masks- "store policy" cited as the reason. Wow, where do I start to ensure I write a review that does justice to both Jonathan and his team and these amazing diamonds??!!! First of all, Jonathan, Darren and Linda were the best! There was never ANY pressure whatsoever and only information provided. In fact, I felt that Jonathan (and Darren for that matter) if anything, were always very protective and were extremely eager to find me the best diamond for my money! To clarify, I chose to go the custom cut route as there wasn't a diamond in their inventory in my color/clarity/carat choice. Ultimately Jonathan found me the most AMAZING diamond in the world! It FAR EXCEEDS any clarity, cut and carat expectation that I could have ever dreamed of!!! To tell you that my diamond, even when it was in the temporary holder, literally stops people in their tracks due to its fiery brilliance is an understatement! I brought it into a couple of local jewelry stores to try on split shank rings to ensure I liked the style before ordering my setting and the jewelers and gemologists at the stores were FREAKING OUT! One jeweler initially thought my diamond was fake because it was so colorful and sparkly! LOL Another employee asked if she could try it on herself :) They were calling over the owner of the store, who asked if he could look at it under the microscope and all of them said they'd never seen such a beautiful diamond like it in person!!! I have seen some people ask if the August Vintage diamonds are worth the "premium" that they command.... And I say, if you want a diamond that causes people's mouths to literally drop open, lose their words for a few moments, call their friends over from across the room to see your diamond, or comment "my God, it is dark in here and your diamond sparkles like the sun is shining!" then YES, that bit of a premium is well worth it!!! If you haven't been to their shop in NY, I really recommend going there. Even though you probably cant go wrong doing online transaction with them, I always found my time there worthwhile. I live in NJ and I've driven there three times. But I always have them ship the ring to me and I never had any issues. The whole buying experience with them is a real pleasure. Helen, Thanks for taking the time to respond, however, I also disagree with a few of the comments made in your reply. Demand for AV Diamonds - I think it is fairer to say that AV stones are most desired at your location and your online market. It was not just one competitor who made this statement, but many. An attempt was made to circulate this stone through the diamond district, which is safe to assume to be the largest trader of stones (in-person), and the consensus was the same. Lab Report - I am aware the certification never existed for our stone. Your comment regarding the option to obtain GIA certification is not aligned with what your staff member Stephanie shared with us. She clearly stated that they would not certify the stone for all of the reasons you mention, which is why GOG goes with AGS. Also, at the time of purchase, this information was NOT shared with us, had we been aware, we may have decided to go with obtaining a GIA certification. All of your commentary for all the reasons why your store does not certify via GIA is something that needs to be shared upfront. AGS may be in favor when dealing with your online customers, but that was not the case in this instance, and often considered secondary. Your policy & pricing - I do not believe your store did the best to accommodate our displeasure with our purchase. Stephanie may have made an exception to go outside of your inventory but she did not provide options based on my criteria or budget. I advised that I was able to add an additional 15K to cover an upgraded stone, new setting, and band. All of the stones presented were not even the exact shape requested, and at price points that covered solely the stone with our entire budget. She did not try to work within our budget. We were able to obtain a beautiful stone, setting, and matching band in the DD for less than one of the stones you presented us, with a GIA certification. Setting offer - Helen, did you see the workmanship on this setting in person? To have charged us $4,000 for a setting of this quality was highway robbery. Again, checking with quite a few competitors, they were floored to learn how much we paid. Given a customer's displeasure, and how much we communicated that to Stephanie, I would imagine a store with your reputation would try harder that to buy this back as more than just scrap metal. Will gladly send you photos. Investment - When purchasing our stone, all we were sold on was how this is considered an investment. Why do you provide an overvalued appraisal report if this is not considered an investment? I have an appraisal report from your store saying this ring was worth over $30K yet received far less from you for it. What is the purpose preparing an appraisal report and encouraging insurance purchasing for a non-investment? I feel that your commentary back at each point is simply to cover yourselves instead of making a fair attempt at righting this situation. I was not persuaded by a competitor to think I bought a worthless stone. I absolutely loved my stone! I was hopeful it would have held the same value no matter where it was presented, as that is how it was sold to us, but that is not the case. Bottom line is, a store with your reputation shocked me when it came to dealing with this situation. Your strong willed approach at backing up your stones in this commentary does not align with your willingness to buy back your work from an extremely displeased customer. Jewelry is meant to be worn and enjoyed, but certainly is worn better when it's actually worth what you paid for it. read more

This place is amazing. I dropped off my favorite emerald ring to have a diamond replaced and sized slightly larger to fit my other hand. In addition, I had the ring polished and rhodium done to the band. The repair was inexpensive, the sizing was perfect, and it looks better than the day I purchased the ring 12 years ago.
