There are often local young folk sitting in the aisles reading. The books are well curated with great selection of quality literature in each genre. The usual used bookstore dreck is delightfully absent. I was very happy with the Science Fiction and Fantasy section. Last time we were in (looking to reread the Harry Potter series), the charming salesperson told us that the store was built and opened by her grandparents. I know Red Bluff is well off the highway, but Book Barn is well worth the trip.

So I went in, asked if they had books related to games, and this employee started to say (and in a very forceful and rude tone by the way)... "we don't carry those, you NEED to go to GameStop". And then he started to stare me down as if he was trying to start a fight. However, I remained a good sport, and I simply replied with "I was kinda looking for older ones". And before I could finish my sentence, this employee interrupted me and said "GO online", in that same rude and forceful tone. I don't know if book barn is a good store for books, but I won't be going back. And I'll also tell the people in my area about that rude employee. If book barn wishes to stay in business, they have two choices. Either that employee needs to get an attitude adjustment, or he needs to be let go. Cause I can guarantee that that store wont get as many customers with that employee working there.

We were told that he could rent shoes at Wink. My husband and son went down there at 4:45 to inquire about renting. Turns out, they don't rent or sell. The owner, (assuming, and I wasn't there to get her name) offered to let us use her grown sons shoes. Problem being, her son is in Georgia! She OFFERED to get up at the crack of dawn and get the shoes for my son. Not even sure if they would fit! She did know this was for a Young Marine to wear to a murdered policeman's funeral. She was willing to go way out of her way to help my son for the purpose of a funeral in Roseville. My husband didn't want to put her out anymore and told her how much he appreciated her help but she had offered enough. He went down and found a pair at another store.. She couldn't have been anymore kind hearted in the situation. She knew the story and wanted to help! Besides that her new boutique is full of fun, fancy and priced appropriately!

I thought long and hard about whether or not to write this review. I always want to support local…read morebusinesses and do my best to encourage others to do the same. I was very excited the first time I went into Heart Strings & Love Knots Boutique. I went in there because I was looking for some fun items for a weekend getaway with my boyfriend and I had heard that she had a back room full of goodies. I was not disappointed when I went there. The woman was initially very helpful and because much of her merchandise was so reasonably priced I ended buying not only some massage oil but two shirts as well. All in all, my maiden shopping voyage in the store was a pleasant experience and I went home and told all my friends to bring their business to her because she deserved to make more sales. Then I wore one of the shirts I bought and silly me, I washed it. There were no instructions included with the shirt about special care or dry clean only or anything of the sort. It was just a cotton shirt. A cotton shirt that completely shrunk up to nothing upon first washing and totally changed shaped. It is now basically unwearable to me. When I discovered this I took it back to the store. I didn't expect to get my money back because I no longer had the receipt. But I was expecting either some store credit or most likely (and what I wanted ultimately) a replacement shirt. That's just good business. Imagine my surprise when she greeted me with a huge smile, remembered exactly who I was and what I bought, looked at the shirt and agreed it was not wearable and that it should not have shrunk up like that and THEN refused to take it back because in her words "I can't afford it." I was told she will only take back an item that she can send back or resell. Which means the merchandise is crappy and falls apart after one wearing, thats just too bad. Because while SHE can't afford it, I apparently can. I was disgusted by this and told her I would not be back. I think it's very unfortunate as I likely would have spent a great deal more money in her store if things had gone differently. I don't believe the woman running the store is a bad person. I do think she's extremely inexperienced at running a business and sadly, it makes for initially enthusiastic but ultimately poor customer service. I'm not saying don't shop there. I'm just saying be aware of what you're getting and that it likely will not last you any time and when it falls apart, you're on your own. If disposable clothes are your thing, then this is the place for you. I was very angry about this whole experience at the time and told my friend about it. My friend, well meaning, wrote a review here on yelp stating she had never shopped here and never would because of my experience. The review has since been deleted. Probably because she's never been to the store. Maybe this one will be deleted too because it's negative. I don't know. But I do now that my experience has been shared and that's as far as I need to take it. Heart Strings & Love Knots markets itself as "The store for crazy girls". This is very, VERY accurate. Because spending $24 on a shirt you get to wear exactly one time is definitely crazy.
