My wife - an interior designer - has used Gonzalez before for clients (and personally) and she has no issues with their workmanship. Let's be clear about that up front. Recently she asked them for a quote to sew together (14) 11" X 4" child's "mattresses" for a project ("Princess And The Pea") that she designed for our grandchildren; 2 sets. It took more than 3 weeks to get an estimate, and then another week for clarification to make sure that he understood the magnitude of the project as his quote was for $490!!!!! Once again, these were 11" X 4"... aka very small. She was providing the material. Yes, he reconfirmed that the quote was accurate. As you can imagine, my wife would have much preferred him being honest at the beginning of this RFQ by stating he wasn't interested in the project, and not given her a ludicrous gouging estimate. Gonzales Upholstery was recommended to me by a furniture restorer. I went in and talked to Ernesto about recovering my almost-25-year-old couch, large chair and ottoman. In addition I wanted the sofa bed removed and the piece converted to just a standard couch, which would require building in new support for the cushions. Ernesto spent almost 2 1/2 hours with me helping me find exactly the right fabric, and I so appreciated his patience and expertise. I wanted the new couch support to feel like the existing chair support, which turned out to be coiled springs. Putting in the support for coils, as well as hand-tying them, for the couch would have been prohibitively expensive. So Ernesto found an alternative that feels supportive without being too firm. It's very comfortable. They ended up having to replace most of the original padding as well. It was quite a big project and they did a fabulous job. We're very happy and looking forward to a couple more decades with some favorite furniture. read more

Had a Calico Corners couch given to me by my Grandmother. It has been an awesome couch, but it was beat to hell the fabric and cushions. I went to Calico Corners website to see about getting a new couch. Holly S*** $4000 dollars to replace with a new Calico couch. Turns out they hand build their frames and use only top notch material. So I purchased 20 yards of material from Calico Corners $500 bucks and went to Gonzalez Upholstery. They picked up the couch, reupholstered it, and delivered it back to my house $1000 dollars labor. So in summary I turned my old Calico Corners couch into a new one, with Calico Corner fabric, in a style and color I picked, and the quality of work is spectacular, total cost $1500 dollars. This couch is going to get another ten years in this family! Gonzalez does awesome work!
