I just received a certified letter with my name scrawled across the envelope, addressed to my home in La Quinta, in which the doctor states: "Withdrawal of care - this letter is to inform you that our office is discontinuing from further attendance upon you due to not meeting your expectations" - no other reason given. Dr. Edith Gonzalez has been my PCP for a number of years, and was my mother's physician for several years before her death. As other reviews have noted, Dr. Gonzalez's front desk staff are disorganized and rude, wait times are long, the doctor is always rushed, and she is always eager to push more pharmaceutical medications on you. Despite this, I had a reasonably satisfactory relationship with her until recently, just coming for annual physicals. However, in June, both my partner and I came down with Covid, I had a foot infection resulting in osteomyelitis, and my partner had major issues with BPH and a kidney infection. Despite being notified by DOHC Urgent Care and a variety of specialists about our respective medical conditions, we heard nothing from the doctor or anyone in her office. After six weeks of panic and sleepless nights regarding my partner's rapidly deteriorating condition, I went into the office at opening time on Friday July 29 and requested to urgently speak with the doctor herself. I was dismissively told that she would not be available until the following Wednesday, and that I had to make an appointment to meet with her. Several hours later she called me and I discussed my concerns with her. She stated that she had "10,000 patients" (I assume that this was an exaggeration) and that "70% of the correspondence and e-mails she is sent are not received" which she blamed on "the medical system" and "insurance requirements." She stated that she had not received any correspondence about my partner's and my conditions for months! I told the doctor that I thought her front end staff needed to be much more professional and that I expected better from my and my partner's PCP. Two days later, my partner was rushed to Eisenhower Hospital with an eGFR of 17 and almost suffered renal failure. It will take him many months to recuperate. Receiving the 'Withdrawal of Care' letter was the last straw, and I will be filing a grievance with the insurance company. The doctor never once expressed any concern nor made any apology, and I believe the letter I received was simply her recognition of guilt and an attempt to sweep this situation under the rug. Altogether a frightening and disappointing experience. Look elsewhere for quality health care! read more
