Looks closed by the county health dept. Photo taken yesterday, does anyone have more info on what happened?

Nice Asian market out here in Chester County, decent enough selection. Does anyone know why the county closed it down?

Lots of choices at this market

This Asian market clearly has a word-of-mouth following. It was filled with shoppers Who had obviously been there before. The market sits in a peculiar strip mall that holds a few random asian restaurants, stores, hair salon, and a cool old fashion pinball machine arcade. It's not easy to find this market and not readily apparent that it exists from the street. Gong's market has fresh vegetables, a plethora of frozen treats ranging from meats to the shumai you get at local restaurants. I was shopping for Tree ear fungus and Tigerlily buds for a Mushu pork dinner party. I had plenty of choices. I also picked up a nice Napa cabbage and a few of sauces and staples. There were many choices of noodles and rice as well. A few years ago I was looking for quail eggs for Christmas dinner and came up short. Of course they have quail eggs at Gong's market. If you're looking for traditional Chinese staples for your kitchen, look no further. This local grocery store in Frazer Will likely have what you're looking for. I left wishing I had a tour from a regular shopper. Gong's market has all of the Asian type random food you might be looking for. Even if you were not looking for this type of food it is kind of fun to check it out.

    Fresh whole fish.

For a small grocery's store, they have everything you need. Well, if you don't, you can ask the owner to see if he can help you get it from philly. It's such a convenient market for mainline area.

Yes, I would like to update my review after visiting both ASSI and here. I think the quality of food in ASSI has been under water but price goes up every time I visit ASSI so if you live around this area and have little time for grocery shopping, here is the place to go. The price might be just a little higher but considering not parking fee and save time. If you need fresh ground pork meat, you can call ahead of Friday and ask them to carry for you.

Their vegetables are the best. Fresh and reasonable price. For vegetables, Fridays are recommended since they get shipments. I also like ribs, thinly sliced beef and pork.

Ask the Community - Gong's Market

Is it likely I'll find soon/extra soft tofu, kelp powder and Korean chili?

    Do they accept credit cards?

Yes, but I believe they have a sign (written in Chinese) that asks you to pay with cash if your order is under $25.

In addition to all the sauces, mostly Vietnamese and Korean, there are seasonings, spices, fresh produce including guavas, durian (frozen whole and peeled), baby bananas (apple bananas? not sure the variety) and Asian greens like Shanghai baby bok choi, gai lan, and water spinach, garlic chives and long beans. Didn't see pea vines but they are quite hard to get. Bulk rice and dried mushrooms, and fresh fish and seafood as well as meats including organ meats. Noodles fresh, frozen and dried as far as the eye can see. A small section of housewares. Outside the market (which is in the old Toys R Us if you remember back when) there is a small food court with roast duck, banh mi and pastries. There is also a Korean bbq restaurant and a noodle and dumpling restaurant nearby in the parking area, the Korean bbq is across from the market and the noodle dumpling house is next to where the old Borders bookstore had been (on the way out of the shopping center.) Worth the trip. We enjoy cooking at home, especially Asian food and we enjoy grocery shopping so this was a really fun excursion. And since we eat a lot of bok choi, we'll be back soon.

It's a large Asian grocery store that sells everything from fresh seafood, produce, cooking tools, frozen food, and more. Nice selections of Asian vegetables, fruits, price is not as low as Chinatown lower than some other suburban Asian markets. According to the owner, the produce comes in daily, which is great to know. Frozen section (dumplings, buns, fishballs, etc) contains some nice brands that I could only find in New York/North Jersey previously. They have meat and Seafood (frozen and live), especially live fish, lobster and crabs (seasonal). Tons of noodles, rice, tofu, dried goods, condiments, sauces, and big selection of snacks. Super nice owners. They kept telling me that they would continue to stock their shelves daily. If you need something specific and can't find, ask them; they get their supplies from Philly and New York and are willing to find items when there's a demand. If they're unable to find it due to supply shortage, they would tell you. I really appreciated their honesty. Real-time updates via WeChat group, but it's mostly in Chinese. I would wait a bit until they are fully stocked, but there's definitely great potential to be my go-to Asian grocery store. Note: their current closing time is 7:30, not 8pm.

I think it's because there just aren't any competitors in central PA (closest H-Mart would be 1.5h away, ASSI plaza 1h away, etc). The produce selection looked ok - you could get things like thai chili peppers here, bokchoy, or more exotic things like lychee and jackfruit. There are a lot of aisles with dry goods like rice, noodles, sauces (they did carry jarred Maeseri thai sauces which is what I was looking for). They have a seafood section which had a strong smell and a "food court" with labeled fresh food items which was pretty barren - maybe 2 takeout things of dumplings on the shelf that didn't look particularly appetizing (visited on a Sunday around noon). Also, notably, the store is not in downtown Lancaster -- it's kind of remote from everything else. I don't think it would be worth making a special trip for.

I will say, if you do not have a car, the walk over can feel a little sketchy. But once you're inside, it is absolutely worth it. We came to grab groceries but also happened to catch the Lunar New Year land blessing ceremony. We had no idea where it was being held, so we asked a few staff members. They were SUPER kind and walked us toward the front, even though it seemed like they had not been fully briefed on the event. They still did their best to help and were so patient about it. I love ready made food sections and this one does not disappoint. I grabbed blood sausage and some prepared fish and both were amazing. The blood sausage was rich and savory, great texture, not overly gamey. The fish was fresh, well seasoned, and flaky without being dry. Truly solid. My friend exclusively buys her meat here because she says it is well priced and trustworthy, which says a lot. The produce looks great, the aisles are clean, and there is even an attached cafeteria if you want to eat before or after shopping. Overall just a great experience. Clean, friendly, good food.
