I was bringing in similar plants from the same family from as far off as Ecuador, Hawaii, Washington, Minnesota, and Florida (shipping to Texas). EVERY other supplier had appropriately packaged the plants to keep the roots moist during the shipping process, roots were healthy with green growing tips and healthy branching. The delivery from this supplier was packed bone dry in expanded clay and lava rock with roots in terrible condition, shriveled to the point of loosing their sheathes. After leaving a poor review on their eBay site, Tony attempted to attribute the condition to the season and shipping, which are irrelevant if kept correctly, and unrealistic expectations (shaped by superior competition). They may be worth checking out at the physical shop where you can see product, but I would steer clear of online listings.

One manager was extremely rude When we asked for some help and she said we could not get any help. Eventually she backed off and another person called Gabe at the reception helped us with a good attitude and we placed a large order. Today we returned as we wanted to place an order for some more plants. Although Gabe was present he was asked by the General Manager Chase not to help us. Then Chase was also extremely rude to us and refused to help us. He also asked us if our landscaper was even qualified! We said yes. When she arrived he continued to be rude and told her basically that she cannot continue to be their customer although she told him that under the previous management called Pacific nursery she has placed tens of thousands dollars of orders with them over the years. Also in the past they were very friendly and helpful to landscapers and their clients. It has been a very difficult and an extremely unpleasant experience for us all this morning. We would strongly recommend everyone not to deal with them as they have a bad attitude. I was telling my husband they have an appropriate name Devil which shows their attitude and nature!

So what possessed me to buy 20 ranunculus bulbs from Costco? I don't know, probably the same demon that possesses me whenever I buy Nutella in giant bulk jars, but we're not here to talk about that. Anyway, when I decided that it was time to plant the poor things, a quick Yelp search pointed me towards SF Garden Supply because they were close by and had parking. Since I know zilch about gardening but a lot about accidentally growing potatoes on your kitchen counter, I can't tell you much about how robust their inventory is, but I can tell you about their stellar customer service. I was cheerfully greeted upon entering, and after I wandered around the small space for about a minute, I was stopped with a polite, "Can I help you find something?" "Yes, I need... dirt and pots for some flower bulbs." One minute later I had a couple of (utilitarian but perfectly functional) plastic pots in hand and my savior had a giant bag of soil slung over his shoulder. Buff and efficient, which is the best kind of customer service, really. The icing on the cake is that he didn't charge me for the supplies. Now that's the sort of small business love I'm not gonna find at big chain stores. I would've given the place five stars anyway for their service and utility but that kindness really made my day.

Is there such a thing as a special occasion nursery? Maybe a garden temple or a garden of worship?…read moreYes? Okay good. Then this is my special occasion garden of worship temple to plants nursery. It's where I go to celebrate major life events ...with plants and garden furniture purchases. I still also go to sit in the garden if I need a quiet place to think. There isn't a Ritual Coffee there anymore, but they don't seem to mind if you a being a drink (All Good is around the corner.) As I age, and my janked up knee worsens, and the City puts up barriers for people with mobility issues, I can't always get to my preferred thinking spots in the City's lovely parks. This is a very good substitute with easy parking. We had our wedding reception in Golden Gate Park when we were young and broke. If you have money you could have it here as they rent it out for just such occasions. It would be a lovely venue.

Welcome to Flora Grubb! A week or so ago, I was desperately trying to find the right plants for especially difficult spots in my garden project. I was pressured by time and money as the landscapers were almost done and I was way over my budget, and had been experiencing conflicting advice from Claude, Chat and Gemini. After grilling multiple other garden centers near me, I remembered Flora Grubb, drove across the bridge and rushed to the counter to beg for help. Elena laughed, and like a true medical professional they reviewed every symptom, asked detailed questions about conditions and worked their diagnostic skills, taking me through the magical property introducing me to things I had never considered and double checking the minutiae of size and conditions whenever I expressed doubt. After my first round I found Andee who again offered the same generosity in solving another mystery. The beauty of the plants and the uplifting spirit of both these women were nothing short of healing. As I was ringing out for the second time, I asked about my gardenia and Flora, herself started to laugh - "oh, she won't like it here" she said. When I explained that I wanted to bring a bit of my grandmother into my garden, she smiled and came up with a plan to help me provide the best conditions. I left with a car full of plants, inhaling the lovely smells of the soil and feeling like I had spent the day at a meditation retreat. We are so lucky to have a place like Flora Grubb in the Bay. As the world gets crazier, it is a comfort to know a sanctuary is waiting in Bayview.

What really sets it apart is the staff. They even drilled a drainage hole in a ceramic pot I picked out, no extra charge, which saved me a trip to find a drill. Prices are reasonable for the quality, and a lot of what they carry is grown locally so it's held up well in my apartment despite my not so green thumb. It's become my go to stop whenever I need something for the house. Can't recommend it enough if you want an easy, no pressure nursery with people who actually know plants.
