To sum up my experience; this Avis location attempted to steal $278.86 from me. On Wednesday May 15, I called Avis and through their national customer service office, I rented a subcompact car as my personality vehicle needed some maintenance work. I arrived at this location and was told the vehicle I rented through the agent was not available and I would need to pay more for an SUV. Reluctantly, I agreed as I needed a car. On Friday morning May 16, I returned the car at the agreed upon time with a full tank of gas. I handed my keys to the same man at Avis that I had rented from two days earlie. He said I was all set and wished me a great day. Fortunately, I had the foresight to then take pictures of the rented SUV in their parking lot. Today, Monday May 19 I received an emailed receipt from Avis showing I returned the vehicle today and was being charged an additional $278.86. This was a lie as I returned the vehicle 72hrs earlier, on Friday May 16. After a 30 minute phone call and emailing the time stamped photograph to a National Avis representative, they agreed to refund that additional charge. This was at best, incompetents from the employee at this Avis location, or at worst, criminal activity attempting to charge a customer for a vehicle that was returned. I would recommend renting elsewhere.

When I arrived, I was told that no cars were available except a large Toyota pickup truck. I explained that I could not safely drive such a large vehicle and asked whether they could help me find a smaller car at another location. The staff told me that the Flint Airport location might have cars available. When I asked if they could transfer my reservation, they began yelling at me and said they could not contact the Flint rental office. They were very rude and called me racial slurs because I was not born in the United States. After that, they told me they had arranged a reservation at the Flint Airport location and instructed me to go there. The representative at the Waterford office was a young, tall, man with red hair. When I asked for his name, he refused to provide it and told me to leave the office. I then drove 30 miles to the Flint Airport location, where I was told that my reservation had been canceled by the guy at the Waterford location and that they could not rent a car to me. The representative at the Flint location was also very rude, yelled at me, and told me to leave without providing any reason. I filed a racial discrimination complaint and will never rent from this company again. All the employees I dealt with were rude and racist. This was the first time in my life that I felt I was treated as less than human, even though the issue resulted from the company not having the vehicle I had reserved. Instead of helping me, they bullied me. DO NOT RENT FROM THIS COMPANY. THEY ARE SCAMMERS. I am a frequent renter ar Hertz and the HLE locations can be hit and miss. I have rented a dozen…read moretimes at this location and have never had a problem. I always get a decent clean car and a full tank of gas. Occasionally I have had to wait a few minutes for a car but never long. They always seem to have more than one person working there. The only real issue is that they have really limited parking space which is a problem if you are leaving your personal car when renting from them. Last time I have to leave my car in a lot a couple of hundred yards away which is a pain when you are dropping off, otherwise I am happy.
