Made in Stirling

Made in Stirling is rather lovely, and most definitely a unique place to spend your pennies. The…read moreshop moved units quite some time ago and I've only recently had a proper browse since then. - It was my friend's birthday and I knew that a visit to Made in Stirling was a foolproof one; it would be impossible for me to leave empty-handed. And laying eyes on something that I wanted to buy for myself? That would be inevitable! With a selection of work from local artists and designers, Made in Stirling is a pleasure to browse. It's also really nice that it's the artists and designers featured who regularly work in the shop. When I visited there was a lovely lady who made lampshades with beautiful paper silhouette designs of Stirling. Whenever you pop in, if you're in the mood for talking, you're going to hear something interesting. But don't worry if you're not, staff will leave you to browse as you fancy. I'm one of those people who likes to buy lots of little gifts for friends as opposed to one large one. And I really could buy all my little gifts here. There's handmade soap, jewellery, silk scarves, paintings, candles; basically the perfect combination! (I'm seriously in love with the little Harris Tweed purses. I bought my friend one and had to show serious restraint not to buy one for myself! - They're gorgeous!) You get that super special feeling you get only when you're supporting someone creative locally whose doing their thing, with the added bonus that you're buying an awesome hand-crafted item that isn't available on the high street. For me, these are the reasons Made in Stirling calls me back time and time again.

This is my local jeweller and I've spent a lot of money here over the years, and found myself…read morerecommending it to friends. They have a great range of Scottish designer jewellery, and will order things in for you on request. Some of the silver range on offer is really lovely and unusual. The jeweller is very pricey since it largely purveys high quality products by top-end designers like Sheila Fleet and Ola Gorie. The staff are kinda touch-and-go, sometimes they're lovely and sometimes they're a bit standoffish (I wonder how much my holey jeans and the fact that I look like a student has to do with it!). They are very knowledgeable about their products tho, and can be very considerate. The reason I am ranking this business so highly is because they have such a beautiful range of jewellery. They are obviously very selective, and are definitely a high cut above the chain jewellers in town. Some of their products are unusual and all are beautiful. They also seem very keen to support Scottish jewellery designers, which is a bonus. Everything in this shop is tasteful and well-chosen.

Nice to see an independent store in such a big brand dominated marketplace. Offers a lot of stuff…read morethat isn't available at the big chain stores round the corner. Would get more stars but they mis-measured my fiancé's finger (by a size and a half) and the ring had to go back to be resized :-(
DO NOT GIVE THESE JOKERS YOUR HARD EARNED!…read more (Especially if you're in the Stirling branch) I ordered a watch online and collected it from the Stirling branch, I tried it on and as it was still in its protective plastic I went home to adjust the time, date and generally enjoy my new timepiece. Upon removal of the plastic I realised that I had been had, there were extensive scratches on the back of the case (worse than any watch, some worn for decades, that I have ever owned) there were scratches all around the bezel, and there were marks on the brushed steel casing. I contacted Chisholm Hunter to arrange a refund, I was offered a repair (it's a new watch allegedly, so shouldn't need a repair) I was told a new one from Tissot wasn't possible as it was discontinued (still for sale on your website though isn't it) or a really offensive £30 off if I'm willing to keep the defective watch. The icing on the cake was when I took it back to Stirling branch (120 mile round trip to collect and return) and was instantly and sharply told we don't do refunds, one of the staff was sitting on the floor on his mobile phone barked out is it a web order before going back to his phone. The sales assistant mumbled her way through (after dropping the watch on the floor as she took it out of the box) guess we know how you treat your stock then. Demanded to know who had agreed a refund (irrelevant due to the statutory 14 day web return) and not once did any of the 4 assistants offer any kind of apology (just eye contact would have been nice) Utterly despicable service, avoid at all costs.
