Good gym in a convenient location. Staff is always pleasant & welcoming when you walk in. They sell protein shakes & some bars at the front - something I haven't tried yet. Towel service is offered but costs extra. Equipment is in pretty good shape. Expect to wait for equipment on busy nights. Several classes are offered & there is also a movie room where you can do cardio & watch a movie! The reason why it's not 5 stars: No paper towels or Kleenex anywhere. I HATE using those hand drying machines. The rags used to clean the machines should be replaced with pre-moistened cleansing wipes. Also, the membership locks you in for 18 months. When you want to cancel your membership, you can send an email to stop the membership if need be. read more

Expressed my frustration to the owner who claimed people do not breathe out of their nose. Expressed my concern for their lack of enforcement. The manager went on to explain to me it's not an issue in Pennsylvania, which is fine but the gym is in New Jersey. The owner only put on his mask when I came over and didn't cover his nose. I suppose it's hard to enforce a policy and owner doesn't believe in, even if it's a state mandate. I asked if it's optional to wear a mask to which he replied no but some people have a medical condition. Which is great to know people with a medical condition impeding lung function means you're healthy enough to go to a gym where a policy is loosely enforced at best. I used to love this gym and their staff but the entire attitude is a slap in the face to every medical worker who had to deal with peak Covid, to every family who lost a love one, and anyone who tried to abide by public health and safety initiatives. read more

I like this gym because it really close to my home!! So the thing that I don't really like it is how this gym wants members sanitize their equipments !!! I really hate do it with a bottle of sanitize spray and a towel !!! It's really disgusting And actually the towel is always wet !! So when we sanitize them after that we need to sanitize our hands!!! Very easy to sign up but in order to cancel you have to be very Computer literate and extra patient with the cancelation process. The gym can not cancel your membership. They will provide you with an 800 number you have to hold on for about 40 minutes as you can hear in the background people are now working from home so it goes into a cue. Only so they can take all of your information and give you an email address to write them and tell them you want to cancel and why. At this point you will still be charged for 2 months ahead so it will literally take you a full quarter of the year to be completely finished with them. Not my cup of tea, lack of transparency is on steroids with this Gym/Company. Better off buying a monthly pass as long as possible. Not worth enrolling. Support your local gym, at least you can walk in and talk to someone face to face. UPDATE !! As of 1/20/2023 I spoke to the General manager through email. His name is Ron Noonan, I expressed my concern and explained how his system is flawed and requested a 52 dollar yearly annual charge refund because I cancelled my member ship 2 months ago. Stay away from this gym unless you are committed for the long term! I signed up for a month, and the life situation I was in changed, and No I'm stuck paying $32.00 every month until 2020, even thought I won't be using the gym. They only have an 18 month contract. On top of that, I was charged for a "gym upgrade" fee of $31.00. I spoke with the staff regarding this issue and they were extremely sarcastic. The cancellation process is made so that you really either have to have a permanent disability, with proof, or move more than 25 miles away to cancel. And even then, it's an additional $50 They have a daycare, but that's an additional $4 per 3 hours, or an additional $20 a month. I'm not sorry... No gym should be charging $82+ dollars per month. And the gym is average at best. They don't offer many amenities that cheaper gyms do and with shorter contracts, or month to month contracts. Smiles from the manager on your first day. Second day onward, customer service from the manager up to the shady owner is terrible. The owner unfreezes your account and starts charging you in the middle of a pandemic without notifying you. In the end, owner gives no refunds for his deceit. As for the gym itself, equipment is constantly broken and is not fixed in a timely manner at all compared to other gyms I've been to. Not sure what the yearly $50 charge is in our contract then for "'maintenance" if they don't fix things quickly. Overall, would absolutely not recommend and I'm shocked that corporate has not come down on this individual gym. If I could give this gym ZERO stars, I would. The owner Ron is a conniving, lying snake who is only interested in his own profit. I have spent months and months trying to peacefully settle a membership dispute that we have had with him--one he and his team illegally and fraudulently are saying my 16 year old son signed with him when we were only re-upping for month-to-month--and after months of his telling me to work with ABC, their contract company, that it would be "easy" to get it taken care of, and ABC telling me we need Ron the Liar's approval to have it canceled--I realize now that this runaround is what they do to get people to give up and stop fighting because it would be way easier. Not this time, Ron--now it's going to get legal. DO NOT SIGN AN AGREEMENT WITH THIS GYM. There are better, less expensive gyms out there, ones that treat their members well and correctly, and don't commit fraud to squeeze just a few more dollars from a teenager who never agreed to the contract in the first place. Very clean facility. Has sanitizing spray bottles set up at various stations throughout gym or can use individual ones they provide. A lot of equipment available in machines, free weights, classes, trainers, women's private gym area also available. Unfortunately no longer offer yoga or Pilates classes but has several spin classes. This is a respectable gym not a pick up joint. As a woman, I feel very comfortable working out here among men. People are very courteous, helpful & respectful. Highly recommend A+++ read more

Pretty good gym. Would love to seem more squat racks, as on certain days it can be quite difficult to get to one. Staff is generally friendly and helpful, rates are more than reasonable. Men's locker room could use some TLC (some of the lockers have the wood broken or the locks busted). All things considered, unless a barbell focused gym opens in the area, it's your best bet. I joined this GYM when it first open, to be honest, I liked it the time I was a member (well correction when I was an active member) Believe I was an active member 6-7 years. Then the time came where I was moving, I was well out of contract and just paying monthly (believe in mid 30s) let the front desk know and they advised me to freeze my account (which last for 3 months) because I still worked not to far in the area, so I thought ok that made sense...well after 2 months I knew I was going to cancel so did stop buy and thought that is what I did. Fast forward to 6 years later buy me noticing I had a collection account for over $200 (to my shock) find out it was from the gym over 5 years ago. I was a great paying customer for 6-7 years and when I ended my account, I paid my monthly fee prob an extra month and what these thiefs did was try and bill me for I guess a few extra months...amazing, what is worse is they put the ding on credit, amazing business practice and that is just horrible you do that to long time customers Stay away from this gym, reading these reviews I never seen a gym get bashed for the same tactic at this level. This is by far the worst gym I have ever belonged to. My biggest pet peeve is that the machines are located right next to the sales booths. So, as you are working out, you are getting oogled by everybody comming in to sign up. The year long contracts are a rip off. I paid $46 a month after paying a sign up fee. REALLY? this is a rip off. I STRONGLY recommend avoiding joining this gym due to their cancellation policy and procedure. It is tantamount a scam and immoral that despite a change of address, they continue to harass me for payments "7 MONTHS" after cancellation of my membership. Having been told that my membership was cancelled, on multiple occasions, I am still being sent collection letters requesting payments for over $350!? I have NEVER experienced such POOR customer service at any fitness institution in my life. If I continue to experience unauthorized contact, I will be forced to take legal action. Ah! I can't believe, with all its members, there is no review here yet for Gold's Gym. It's relatively large, with a "cardio theater" that shows movies, a Ladies' Gold Gym (a few cardio machines and a few weight machines, just for the ladies), a Group Exercise classroom, a Spinning Room, a Basketball Court, a childcare center, a yoga/pilates room, and a huge gym floor full of cardio machines and weight machines. The machines are well-maintained, as is the rest of the space. The locker room and floor tends to be very clean. I love the trainers. They're all very sweet, and group exercise classes are so, so fun. The worst part is that the guest rate (and student rate for the summer months) is prohibitively expensive - $15 just to stop in for one day? $80 a month because I'm only joining for the summer (I go to school elsewhere)? A little ridiculous. But if I lived around here and could pay the lower monthly rate, I'd definitely be here every day! read more

The absolute worst customer service. They are friendly to you on your first day just to get you to enroll, even then they seemed like they were in a hurry to show me around. The lady that was giving me my tour, acted as if I should know how to use all of the machines without asking any questions. I should have known not to bother but was looking forward to losing some weight before my wedding, so I did enroll. One year later, I decided to cancel my contract, when I called to cancel, I was told that my contract was more than one year and I was advised when specifically to call back and explain that I did not want to renew my contract. When I called then, I was told that I would still have to pay two additional months. I questioned why would I pay you additional months if I called you on the day my contract ended, and I am advising that I do not want to renew as instructed. They stated I still have to pay two more months. I disputed this with golds gym and my credit card company. I now have $180 affecting me in derogatory manner on my credit report causing my excellent credit score 820+ to drop by 45 points. I have told everybody that I know about this scheme and explained how greedy and sneaky these types of places are. While attending, I would have to constantly need to ask about toilet paper missing in the bathrooms and would get an attitude when I would ask for it. The ladies bathrooms always smelled like a fish bowl. Towels to clean the machines were never around yet they expect you to wipe the machines down. Golds gym in Hackettstown has set a very bad example for who they are. I hope any of you that are thinking about joining think twice. read more

Although we live in DC, we're visiting my family in Hackettstown often enough that we've actually worked out at this gym on many occasions over the years. Home for an extended Christmas vacation this year, we were finally able to sign up for a week's membership, which has been a godsend to be able to work out daily and also enjoy the eatfest over Christmas/New Year's. The staff were very helpful and friendly in working out our deal. This is a decent gym that I would definitely join if we ever moved back to Hackettstown. Paying $88/month as we do now in DC, the price for Gold's seems like a bargain at just $50/month! They've got excellent equipment although they could use more than one of certain pieces since there's so much space. Then again, why make the workout area overly crowded? They've got cardio equipment galore, including a few old school stair masters to really get your butt in shape. And I really like the cardio theater to watch a bad movie and take my mind off the tedium that cardio can sometimes be. They should, however, post the class schedules outside the various studios to make it easier to find the right class while at the gym and not just online. I'm sorry our membership will end soon as I don't look forward to paying the $15 the next time we're visiting, but I definitely know I'll be back. read more

Overall gets the job done, but nothing special by any means. Pros: Has equipment for treadmills, free weights, machines, a couple squat racks, basketball court, and a room for classes. Staff is friendly. Cons: Equipment is old, TVs are rather small and probably 30 ft from the cardio equipment, mens locker room always seems to smell a bit, no wifi, some of the treadmills are so old the belts kind of stutter while you run which is quite dangerous. I was running on one and this happened about 8-10 times during the 3 mile run and it feels like if you land wrong when tgis happens you could really damage your knees. read more

I was a member here for 2 years and I finally made the decision to join another gym after they bragged for months about a renovation and "new" equipment which was a complete scam. They took old equipment from another gym and crammed it in between the current machines. People who say this gym is clean are absolutely wrong, the locker room is disgusting. Every single basketball is flat or egg shaped. I have been asking for over a year for new basketballs and nothing. When I joined over 2 years ago I was told the men's sauna would be fixed and it is still out of service. They got rid of the cardio cinema which I enjoyed. The owner (Ron) is SOOOO rude, and just plain disrespectful! Sad excuse for an owner of a business! Our memberships were taken off hold without any notification at all, we started getting charged again I called and spoke to a staff member who kept talking to other people while on the phone with me. Told me to call a members services number. Called them they said I needed to speak to the gym. Called the gym back. Was given the owners email to which I explained our situation and why we're not comfortable coming back at this time. He has been nothing but nasty! I asked for them to be frozen as that was the only option we were given. We were charged again so I emailed him. He stated "you never asked me to freeze them". I said I sure did and gave him the exact date that message was sent and what it said. He responded with a nasty message about how (now that I called him out magically) he froze it on 10/1. But we were charged 10/2. No apology, no try to refund it, no nothing. Just a RUDE response of how it went thru because of timing and he "wasn't just trying to get another month of membership from us, nice try". Nice try?! Who as an owner of a business says that?!?! Moved more that 25 miles away from Gold's. Per what I thought was the agreement, it would be fairly easy to cancel. It its now going on 4 weeks of dealing with their outsourced billing company to cancel. This has been the most difficult part of my move, their billing company requires more points of move than the DMV! Now they are charging me for the next two months even though I have been trying to cancel since April. Do not go to a gym with outsourced billing, can not get anyone to give you answers/take responsibilty. Riverside does billing inhouse. Had charges on my account that didn't make sense. I called ABC financial but they are just a credit card processing company, they only do what Golds sets up like robots and can not make decisions, I have that recorded. I tried to get the GM on the phone but she viciously refused to speak to a customer with a problem. I tried to explain that cross using a credit card from one membership over to another without authorization is a violation of the electronic funds transfer act. She assumed that ignoring will eventually make me go away. I posted a complaint on the BBB website. The GM made a public statement that I would be refunded, No action was ever taken, I followed up with an email and was ignored, I sent an email to Ron Noonan ( apparently the franchise owner of the Hacketstown and Flanders Gyms ) He also never replied, Since I've been getting collections notices with under my son's name ( who was under aged the entire time he worked out at golds gym and never had a credit card ). I'm also receiving harassing collections phone calls from third world countries using my son's name as well as my wife's. As much as Golds Gym likes to point at ABC financial, ABC financial is nothing more than a vendor doing what Golds Gym pays them for. They have no decision making power. I had to file a criminal harassment complaint against the GM of Golds Gym. My son's credit is in jeopardy before he ever had any credit, as well as my wife. I"ll update everyone on the steps taken after the harassment complaint court date. One day she offers a month to month membership for one amount and two days later pretends she never said that and quotes a higher amount for a yearly contract. Not everyone is interested in a 12 month or 18 month contract. Instructors and classes are great!! That's about the only good thing. Women's locker room STINKS. The yoga room smells like a moldy cesspool I hate taking class in there because I feel like I'm actually inhaling mold. The equipment is so incredibly terrible in the room where the classes are. Weights are all falling apart and the mats are soooo disgusting. They finally replaced something...the balls which weren't even in bad shape and were probably the cheapest thing to replace. I refuse to take spin because the bikes are ancient. Staff is nice but there is no pride in the upkeep if the gym...makes the brand look terrible. If it weren't for the great instructors and quality of the classes and the cheap price I would switch gyms. But in the end you can go and get a good workout. read more

I tried numerous times to reduce my rate but can't justify paying $130 dollars to do so on top of a $30 annual fee. This gym has been billing my uncle for over 10 years without me attending. He gifted me a membership while I was in college in 2006. I eventually stopped going and I was unaware he was still paying up until now. It's absolutely disgusting that they will charge you after a year of no attendance nonetheless 10!!!!!!!!! How is that good business practice? It's not. To cancel, I went to the gym, where they gave me a number to call, where they told me to go online. I have to pay for 2 more months in order to cancel. Don't join this gym if you struggle with mental illness/depression/anxiety as they are not accommodating whatsoever. We joined Golds at the construction price which lasts a lifetime, so we are very happy about our membership pricing. But I am less excited about the recent renovation. Yes there are lots of new machines, but perhaps a few too many as it has become very crowded. I agree with the comments concerning the rags and sanitizer - they are disgusting and there should be another method for keeping machines clean. My biggest complaint is the music! Prior to the renovation - a variety of music was offered, but now heavy metal rock (ANGRY) music is played all day, everyday! Am I forced to purchase noise-cancelling headset just to enjoy my workout? Guys.... give us a BREAK.... I go to the gym to relieve the stress caused by my job and now I have to endure this ANGRY music! Please give us a variation each day... not rocket science. Golds Gym management proves to be unprofessional, unreliable and does not handle problems that occur, but instead they hide from them. After several promises over days and days of asking for a phone call back or resolution- nothing. These were promises from managers and directors- not just the front desk. The personal training department gave me 5 different trainers in a five month span- all with different philosophies on diet and exercise. This starting from scratch every few weeks. Each time a trainer left, they cancelled on me the day of or day before via a text. Will never recommended them to anyone ever again. I have been a member of Golds gym for three years. Recently I have had a problem with the owner and District Manager. In December, I had left my jacket in their locker room, called and they put it on hold for me. When I went in to get my jacket it was no longer there. The District manager or Owner has not contacted me at all since then, even though I have left multiple messages. The district manager said they would look at the video tapes, and after asking another employee if they had looked at them yet, she said she honestly doesn't think they did. I also called and emailed the franchiser company for Golds, and they have not contacted me either. I have recently moved as well, 25 miles away from the gym and i have to pay $90 to cancel my membership and it takes 60 DAYS to cancel it and I have to pay for the two months that I am waiting for it to be canceled. My family and I joined this gym a couple of months ago. What convinced me to join was the variety of classes that are offered. The gym itself has convenient hours as well as amazing childcare. My only issue with the gym is their lack of different instructors. In one day alone, 1 instructor will teach 6 completely different classes. The beauty of taking classes at the gym is that you can try out multiple classes and see which one's work for you. If you don't particularly like an instructor's style, it's easy to switch to a different class. It makes it very difficult when the same instructor is teaching almost every single class (Spin, Pilates, Zumba, Abs, Body By golds, Insanity, and Cardio kick box.) just this week out of the 43 total classes offered, one instructor teachers 21 of those classes! It's impossible for 1 instructor to be amazing at 21 different classes. Just to make sure, I took the Zumba class that was offered. Please keep in mind that I've taken Zumba classes for the past 8 years. The instructor kept missing steps and would often forget what the next move was. I can't blame the instructor cause I'm sure she has 20 other classes full of routines she has to remember. I spoke to a couple of friends who also go to Gold's gym and they had the same views.
