Meaty? Sure. Those are my bare minimum standards for lumpia. All the boxes are checked. I will say, that I prefer sweet chili sauce over the standard "La Choy" brand sweet n sour neon red sauce. Tapsilog = 8.5 / 10 Hungover or not, if I want fried, firm beef, a firm, medium-cooked egg, & some fluffy rice, this gets the job done. I generally avoid giving one-star reviews but unfortunately, our experience at Goldilocks on Plaza Boulevard in National City did not meet our expectations. We visited yesterday, March 29 (Sunday), around lunchtime with my two older sisters and my mom who uses a wheelchair. Four of us in total. We were looking forward to a nice family lunch, but it turned into a very disappointing experience. From the start, the service was unaccommodating. A server tried to seat us at a booth that clearly couldn't fit four people, including a wheelchair, even though several larger, empty tables were available. On top of that, a big round table blocked the booth, leaving barely any room to get in. Not wanting to disturb anyone eating, we politely requested a more suitable table, which we were eventually given. The service only worsened after we sat down. While placing our orders, the server interrupted us, saying, "Oh wait a minute, this is a lot already," laughed, and walked away, promising to return for the rest of our order. My sister never got the chance to order, and we waited over 10 minutes. During that time, we could see the server chatting and laughing with another table, seemingly familiar with them, while completely ignoring us. Our order was left unfinished, and we hadn't even received our drinks. My mom was very thirsty. When the server finally finished chatting, she went straight to the back. Only after seeking another server's attention were we finally able to order drinks. We had intended to order more dishes and desserts, but after what happened, we chose not to. We even considered canceling everything and leaving entirely, but we stayed for our mom, who had been looking forward to getting out of the house and enjoy a nice lunch, only for it to turn into the opposite. The service was unprofessional, inattentive, and inconsiderate. Throughout our visit, the server didn't check on us or ask if we needed anything. She only returned to our table when it was time to pay, while attending to other guests in the meantime The food did not make up for it: it was cold, and the meat was very chewy and dry. For that small order and the level of service we received, we spent over $200. Unbelievable. Dining with a family member in a wheelchair should not be this difficult or uncomfortable. I hope management addresses these issues, because this experience was extremely disappointing. Goldilocks is a staple from the Philippines. I grew up instilled that Goldilocks was the only place to get Filipino food. They have all the traditional food that you are familiar with plus the bakery. Service was great, they seat you right away. Ambiance is cafe style, gave me the Dennys feel with the rubber cracked leather booths and table. Food took about 10-15mins to be brought out which is normal for the Tapsilog and the fact there was only 3 tables being occupied including. Mine. I give it a 3 star because there was nothing impressive about the taste. Unfortunately, the competition of Filipino + Asian restaurants in the same plaza have in my honest opinion better taste and quality. Personally, I only come here for nostalgia and support because I would be sad if Goldilocks ever closed down at this location. But they need an upgrade. 4/17/2026 - I dropped in to buy these because they are so good. The smell, taste and very filling. They are called Siopao Pork Asado for $3.80 each. Buy 6, get a 7th for free. About $25 total. Walk in, go the right and about 15 feet in a display case to keep it nice and warm. I would have given this a 5, except for the following. They charge 10 cents a bag. Why? Also, when you pay with credit card, automatically asked for 15% tip and up. Hit other and place zero and walk out. I'm not tipping, you are a cashier I'm and not eating in. This is a to go order. The food here is amazing though. When you get home. Place in the frig, heat up in the microwave by placing water in a cup and heat to it boils. To make steam. I drove down to the restaurant from Carlsbad to talk with them directly about preparing food for 100+ guests for a Filipino house party (we're Filipino). It was my first time there, and the staff was friendly and helpful. They had me work with Mel, the manager there, and she went above and beyond to help me select the perfect combination of dishes for the party. Knowing we would have some vegetarian guests (like me), Mel helped me customize some of the dishes like the Pancit Bihon, Pinakbet and even the Bagoong Alamang to exclude meat, and suggested a few orders of the vegetarian egg rolls so the veggie guests weren't depressed that they couldn't eat the Shanghai Lumpia. She helped me figure out portions, and also helped with dessert suggestions. Come the day of the celebration of life, Mel helped our food delivery people be sure they had everything in the order. The food was still hot when it arrived, and many guests remarked how delicious all the food and selections were; Great feedback from a primarily Filipino crowd! I am 1000% happy with the food, the help, the services and the care that Mel and her team put into our house catering for my dad's celebration of life and highly recommend Goldilock's National City for any home parties you might have. Went to this Goldilocks location and it was amazing. I had the rice medley with lechon kawali and bagoong fried rice. The bagoong fried rice was perfectly seasoned and the mangoes and tomatoes had the perfect refreshing bite. The lechon was also delicious and went really well with everything. Service was great too, everyone there was very sweet and welcoming and made the eating experience feel like I was visiting family. The ambiance of the restaurant was very casual, I felt like I could comfortably eat there all day. Oh so delicious! Everything was a solid 15/10! The two of us split pork sisig, chicken adobo and garlic rice which totally filled us up. The sisig was perfectly seasoned and piping hot, so tasty I was fighting my boyfriend for the last bite! This was actually my first time trying chicken adobo and in my opinion, nothing will ever beat trying a new flavor for the first time--it was total taste bud nirvana! So rich in flavor and of course pouring some of the adobo sauce on rice really set everything off. All of it tasted fresh and we didn't have to wait very long at all for our food after ordering, but it wasn't very busy when we stopped by... it was more of an early dinner around 4:30. For dessert we had some refreshing Buko Pandan that I'm surprised we even finished after eating every last drop of our meal! And of course, we couldn't leave without picking up some bakery items and chicharon to take home. My usual dishes are fresh lumpia, Kare-kare, bisteak tagalog, crispy pata, pancit palabok, and sinigang. I've yet to find a better fresh lumpia ($7.99) than the one served here. The tender veggies are fresh, and the thin wrapper holds it all in place while the sauce and seasame seeds add a sweet and nutty flavor. Beef afritada ($15.99): tender beef pairs well with the garlic & tomato paste based sauce, 8/10 rating. Vegetable sinigang ($10.99): extra sour but yet comforting with plenty of tender veggies, 8/10. Lumpia Shanghai ($9.99): perfectly fried to a crisp. The filling is lacking, but it is still enjoyable. 7.5/10 rating. Kare-kare with lechon kuwali (pork belly) [$19.99]: I adore the creamy peanut butter sauce, and the lechon was good, but beef is traditional and better, 8/10. Pancit palabok ($10.99): the garlic sauce is delectable. This is the best pancit palabok in San Diego, 9/10!
