Been coming here for a couple three decades, good place to check out for all sorts of books. I've been able to fill gaps in series, find some fairly obscure titles, all for great prices. Well organized, and enough to keep most book nerds enthralled for a bit. We used to turn in books for credit for years (until we moved out of town), was always useful to rotate through the stacks of paperbacks. They purchased a couple of books for like 30¢ and rejected the rest, so that was disappointing to hear that they aren't as open to buying used books as advertised. The service was ok, felt a little judged with bringing in the older books, but other than that they were nice enough. Value is there if you have what they want. read more

I love this place. LOVE it. Years ago when we lived in Waco - we're talking 2005 - I would stop by often to pick up cheapo used paperback books for, like, a quarter. A few weeks ago I was on the hunt for a new book and thought to see if they are still open. Much to my excitement -seriously, y'all - THEY ARE! This place is just cool. It's not some big, cold chain store. They are FULL of books. I hit the "20 Books for $1" section (you read that correctly) as well as their other ridiculously cheap section and ended up paying MAYBE $1.50 for around 12 books. Hello! And they weren't weird, never-heard-of, random books. They were all books written by authors I regularly read. Now, they are used paperbacks so if you have a problem with that you might not even bother. (I don't have a problem spending pennies for books.) All of the books I've purchased from this store at any point are in similar condition to what you'd find at any other used book store. The store itself is heavenly to me. Books from floor to ceiling. Books of all genres, collectibles, newer books, etc. The employees this last visit were welcoming but let me wander without grilling me, but ended up being more chatty when I was checking out. They offer a buyback program, but I hoard my books so I won't be partaking. Seriously, if you're cool with used - check them out! read more

This is a book lover's paradise, they have a very large selection of every kind of book genre. My wife and I carried away almost as many books back home as we traded in....two sacks of books for around 5 dollars, try that at Halfsy's or Noble Barney's. Lots of artwork and stuff covering the walls. The ladies that work here are very friendly. If you're in the area...or book junkies like us....it's well worth the stop. read more

It's a bookstore, which automatically earns it three stars as far as I'm concerned. And it's a used bookstore, which bumps it up again - it's always fun to sort through stacks to find some hidden gem or classic you forgot you read back in high school. Adding to the charm is that I essentially paid bubblegum money for two of the books in my haul - The Ballad of the Sad Cafe by Carson McCullers and Cimarron by Edna Ferber were a quarter apiece. A quarter!! In a world where we fundamentally see change as useless, the ability to get two terrific pieces of literature for pennies is a delight. They lose a star for organization (which is minimal, and the organization that IS there is confusing), the lack of a science section (?), and the over abundance of bodice ripper and true-crime style paperbacks. Ahh, Golden's. When I lived in Waco I visited frequently. The staff never seemed to recognize me, but are always polite. I always brought in tons of books to trade in, they give great trade value. You can pick up TONS of paranormal romance, romance, cookbooks, scifi, self help, history, documentaries, everything. They also buy rare books and sell comics. I have been able to pick up some real permanent additions to my library here, and cheaply got as much reading as I wanted in the meantime. PS They are easy to find, just off Valley Mills about one block North on Franklin. Look on your right, they are in 2nd or 3rd strip center, right befor the Vogue Beauty School. read more

Initially when I walked in, I was elated at the fact that there were books from floor to ceiling. But as my mother and I walked two feet into the store, the woman at the counter immediately walked to the back and stayed there for the entire duration of our stay. We weren't greeted with a hello, a smile or even a "can I help you". I have never felt so unwelcomed in my life. I was so excited to finally stop by this place, only to be left with anger and disappointment. read more

Heaps o' books! I really dig this bookstore when I wanna just browse. It does feel a tad chaotic though... It's generally alphabetized, but it's not perfect... So if you're hunting for specific things, it can be a bit frustrating. But, otherwisely, a very nice place. I love the old smell too :) Lots of old books! Will surely be back! read more

I wish I had discovered this place during my first 3 years at Baylor. Sadly I was able to only enjoy it for a year. The staff is very nice and started recognizing me after a couple visits, and even knew my last name for my store credit, which I tell you is not an easy task since my last name is long and most people have trouble pronouncing. They had a great selection of books. I mostly hung out in the paranormal romance and fiction section because it was constantly restocked with new books. They also have a very large assortment of classics which was cool for adding books to your personal library. Due to my store credit which I always had, I usually only had to pay the tax when I got books so I would leave out with a nice assortment of books for under a couple bucks. read more

I was in the area Friday and stopped for a visit to this wonderful book store. It's hard to find great places like this and it is definitely worth a look if you are a book lover. I still love books and reading even though electronic goodies have distracted me from books the past couple of years. They also have a large comic book section. There is a great selection and prices are very fair. You can easily lose yourself immersed in books for a long while. Bring some trade ins if you want to save some cash by getting some in-store credit. The staff was very friendly and down home. If you are on a budget and need some reading material, they have a table with seriously discounted paperback books. read more

This used bookstore is everything that I had hoped. Books stacked to the ceiling, a nickel bin of paperbacks, an enormous children's section. Also, you can trade in your own used books for a store credit, and you only have to pay for tax when you use your credit. Prices are standard: you pay half the cover price of the book, and so you can pick up paperbacks for very little, and you get quite a bit more than you'd expect when you trade in your hardbacks (you get 1/4 the cover price). The staff are super friendly, and the place has that ancient book smell that leads me to believe there are great finds to be had at Golden's. read more

Wonderful bookstore that I return to every time I visit Waco. It is quiet and filled with wonderful books, new and used that cover that walls entirely. The owners are extremely nice and very helpful if you need assistance finding something. And there is a vast selection of classics to indulge in if you are into them. They also have a wonderful section of children's books and comics/comic book memorabilia. If you are a book lover this place is definitely for you. read more

I have been going to Golden's since it was located on Valley Mills! It was a wonderful, special place to me as a child because of comic books. As I have grown older, I go there now for used books, but I still get a wonderful feeling every time I go in. The selection and prices are great. read more

This is by far my favorite bookstore in Waco. It's half off the original cover price and who can beat that? It is a used bookstore so the selection changes daily. If you walk out of the store without a book then you just weren't looking hard enough. Also every even numbered month they have a half off sale so it's like 75% off the cover price! read more

Great selection of books--definitely something for everyone. Some prices are a little high for the condition of some of the books. Overall, a fun way to spend some time browsing the packed bookshelves, if you enjoy that kind of thing (as I do, but my kids weren't so enthused;). Last time I was in Waco, we came in on a sale day, and picked up a great cache of awesome art texts, history books, and kids' fiction. Waco doesn't offer much by way of bargain shopping, but this is a must-visit. read more

A great little shop for sure. The staff is friendly 99% of the time (there is one guy that works there that seems to be short with me all the time), and they really know their stuff. The place is small, so sometimes it feels like you're tripping over shelves. Piles and piles of books as far as the eye can see! They've got a little bit of everything. The only genre that's lacking is the art/art technique. Very little selection. And Manga, but most places like this don't have much of that anyway. You can literally spend hours in here. Finding something specific can be frustrating. The sorting system isn't perfect. Prices are good! Take about half of what the cover price is on most things. Clearance is amazing, but hard to look through. Some books are only $.50, but finding something is tedious since they just stack them all in a bin. You'll get the highest credit around. I've brought in a bag of books and got about $30 in credit, which I used on more books! All in all, worth stopping by. read more

My family has loved this wonderful bookstore since the 70's. It is part of Waco history and we are very fortunate to have had this great store with such character in our lives. The owner and staff are exceptional. Truly a wonderful experience. read more
