I've been to comic books shops all over the country, but this one is my favorite. This gem is hidden in the back of a shopping center but oh boy when you walk in!! Bankston's Comics and Memorabilia - Comic Books Near Me - Waco, Texas

Not sure what happened to this shop. Used to make it a point to swing by and grab some basketball slabs and wax whenever I was in town to visit my son at Baylor but I can't see doing that anymore. I've even previously purchased raw cards from Bankston's had them graded and posted them with links thanking Bankston's on social media. Now, prices seem to be well over market at Bankston's for wax (Ebay, Cardladder, Dave & Adam's, PSA, etc. we're at around 20% cheaper (give or take)) and some new faces appear to be settled to not work with the customer on general comps - at least not for me today. I know local shops need to make a profit to stay in business (and I make it a point to support these shops when I find them) but when a $364-$399 box of cards is being sold at $500 by Bankston's with a discount offered by Bankston's at only $10, I can't see the logic in wasting money - even to keep a local card shop in business. Bankston's had a slabbed and graded card at $1600 which I liked to have purchased. Verified the slab price (in front of staff) at a substantially lower value than $1600 (last two sales with the exact same grade were less than $1000 avg) and I made an above (cash) market offer (Cardladder had price at just under $1200) at that $1200 and also offered to purchase a $500 list box of cards at $450 (selling at $364 at Dave & Adam's and under $400 on Ebay) as a bundle and was countered at $1400 for the slab and $490 for the box). I mean, they did counter. I even offered to go to $1300 if they sold me the box at $450 but still received a stern "no". I don't begrudge a business their right to make money but as a fan of Bankston's and a long time customer, I was sorely disappointed. No smiles were exchanged by staff at any point in the process. It was all business. The attitude from the new faces were from a "no" perspective - in fact, when I asked if they matched prices, I was simply and gruffly told "no". Ok - Meeting in the middle or at least close to a fair bargain seemed to be too much to ask. My advice, check the comps before you buy from any shop - not just Bankston's Also, whenever I purchased previously, the owner assisted me and I always was able to make a fair and fun deal. He was and likely continues to be a gem of a guy - just ask him about his Quentin Tarantino story. Eh, but maybe it's just me but the "thrill may be gone" for me. Hope this changes. read more

Cool shop with several collectables ranging from comics, figurines, sports cards and memorabilia. Downside though is the prices are rather high sitting at the 2020 market including new wax prices are high. Didn't find many key issues comics to compare against but still plenty of things to look at. read more

I went there to ask about selling bulk cards. Multiple employees (bankstons/kings landings) told me that they buy bulk cards the first 5 days of the month, so I asked prices on bulk. The employees didn't know prices, so they did the right thing to direct me to someone who would know. They directed me to one of the managers I believe named "Rodger" and he said we don't buy bulk. So either the manager gave really bad customer service because he didn't want to deal with a customer or didn't train his employees correctly. Overall "Rodger", didn't help me out at all. He didn't even talk to me/look at me when his employee was trying to help me out about my question. I asked the employee if I could talk to the manager and he didn't even take the time to talk to me. He just gave his employee an answer(which was different from multiple employees). Terrible manager who couldn't even take 2 minutes out of his day to answer my questions face to face. read more

Been going to this comic book and sports memorabilia store since I was little boy. I am thirty now and it still rocks. This place is fantastic and a Mecca for all your nerdy needs. I can easily spend hours in here and the guys that work here are super helpful and knowledgeable. Couldn't recommend this place enough. read more

Cool shop, unfortunately my experience overshadowed how cool it is. Guy working the counter wasn't thrilled to be working, I guess. Couldn't be bothered to look up from whatever he was doing when I came in, super crabby whenever I asked him anything. Single, one word answers that didn't answer anything other than how annoyed he was by me for asking him questions. Honestly, I go to these places for the personal touch you can't get buying comics online. Wish my experience was better, just not into being treated like a nuisance for asking simple questions. read more

Great comic book & collectibles store! Worth our drive from Harker Heights. Friendly staff that did not make us feel like our nerd cred wasn't good enough! Nice selection of back issues. Found some perfect covers to accompany some of our Funko Pop displays. Also, found some back issues we were needing in a series, I much rather get comics from a shop than online. Wished we could have gone to Comic Book Day. Next year it's a date! read more

Great Comic Book Store! I'm from Austin and drove up to Waco to visit a friend and check out the local comic shops. Well, Waco only has one, but it's a good one! Super friendly staff, a wall of all the new releases, plenty of comic boxes full of older books to sift through and an EXCELLENT wall display of hot collectible classics! Captain Marvel #1, Doctor Strange 169, and an Amazing Spider-Man #1 to name a few. I can't wait to go again and spend some time digging through everything. UNBELIEVABLE selection of comics (new and used), statues, action figures, maquettes, busts, props, etc, plus trading cards and other memorabilia. Great, organized, clean store. The prices are a bit high on some items, but the selection is fantastic and they really know their stuff here. read more

Being from Houston, there's a ton of comic shops to choose from, but none of them are nearly as nice Bankston's. Incredibly knowledgeable and kind staff. The store does look small from the outside but don't let that fool you. Their set up is organized and neat, in addition to that they utilize every last corner and inch of their space for the best possible experience. I absolutely love Bankston's and it is hands down the best comic shop I've ever been to. read more
