Right after closing we pulled up the carpets and sure enough they were covering a floor that needed some restoring, but had a ton of potential. Unfortunately I was refereed to a guy who must have been on some serious drugs because he completely ruined them. Thankfully I was put in touch with Birdseye. Jeremy came out that day to do a walk through and provide a quote. He was both extremely knowledgeable and professional. I was really in a bind and he could have gauged me, but he provided me with a very fair quote and agreed to work on begin the weekend so that my tenant could get in. Dave gave me a fair quote to make a faux wood beam that would look like it was crown molding that would not only cover the gouge, but also blend the two different tiles seamlessly. We really wanted carpet that was soft and could also hold up well under ware and tear from a growing child. I'm a man who likes a deal, so naturally I wanted to shop around a bit. We looked at Paulson's ($$$$) beautiful products, but way out of budget. We looked at Marion's($$$) they had some deals on their clearance carpets, but we found the quality to be lacking. We checked out Home Depot($$-$$$) they had some reasonable prices, but they got you on the install. We went home thinking Depot was going to be our best bet, even though the carpet wasn't name brand. That night I did a search on Craigslist and that's when we came across Zakour's($$), never heard of them and only 1 review on Yelp but Google had some positive reviews on their furniture side of their business. We live on the Westside of Portland and it was a bit of a drive, but it was totally worth it! We met Harvey, who I believe is the owner, he is the nicest man and I really liked how I didn't get the whole used car salesman vibe. We told him what we were looking for and he made some suggestions with no pressure at all. The carpet my wife really liked was made by Mohawk which is a well known manufacturer of quality carpets, so I was nervous to ask what the price was. When I finally got around to asking the price of the carpet I had to ask twice cause the price was nearly half the cost of the others and it came with pad, tear out, and install. If something sounds to good to be ture, typically it is. We'll my wife said she felt a good vibe from Harvey so we scheduled a measurement for square footage. Harvey literally came over right after we left his business. Most of the house has wood floors, but he measured 960 sqft that needed to be carpeted and he gave us a quote then and there. We agreed half the money then and the other half after the install. He had to order the carpet and it only took a week to arrive, Harvey was really good about giving us phone calls to keep us updated on the install. I wasn't able to be home during the install, but my wife's Grandmother was there. She is the type of lady who has high expectations and is not afraid to give her opinions too, so she can be pretty critical. I was shocked when she said she was absolutely delighted with the installers. She said they were very clean and didn't cut any corners. If I know her, she probably hovered over the guys all day. Not only am I impressed with the quality, cost, customer service, but I am impressed that they impressed my Grandmother in law!

Rick is very responsive, cordial, reliable, and he completed the work on-schedule. However, AvidPro…read moreis much too expensive for the quality of their work. Rick informed me up-front that he would not be the cheapest option, but that I would be paying for top-notch work. For this reason, I went with AvidPro, despite their being the 2nd most expensive of four quotes. The job was approximately 2000 sq ft, half refinish of existing, and the other half new installation and finishing. We were under a tight timeline to move in, and Rick's crew worked some weekends to hit our deadline. We really appreciated this, and the rush may have contributed to some of the issues. However, I raised many of them early on. Yes, I am a real stickler for details, but for the price, I found the following unacceptable: * visible sanding swirl marks in numerous locations * surface flatness issues * dust in finish * very visible transition of sealer & finish application in front of refrigerator (fridge slid out to finish underneath) * failure to edge-sand around the kitchen island, on the incorrect assumption that there would be a shoe-molding * drips on stairs * significant gaps have opened up in new flooring in an area that receives direct sunlight * deviations from agreed-upon approach to specific details (finish sheen, under-cutting of existing trim, stair nose, etc.) When I raised these issues, Rick was very willing to discuss but was adamant that his work was industry-standard. However, I installed and finished flooring myself on three separate occasions in our last house, and none of these issues was present. I have also seen the results of numerous professional flooring projects in my parents' houses over the years, and almost all of them demonstrated better fit and finish than my experience with AvidPro. Rick did offer to re-work some of the issues, but unfortunately a number of them could not be corrected in time for us to move in, so we opted to live with them.
