We scheduled meetings on several occasions to which were always met promptly and on time. Constructive exchanges, no hesitation on answering questions, and over time, able to provide set-up examples and the flower-types that would be used, Jay was a pleasure to work with towards arranging flowers for the bridal party, the ceremony, and the table centerpieces and mantles, as well as lanterns around the venue. Jay and his team did our flowers for our wedding at The Dorrance on 9/26/15. They were STUNNING. I asked Jay for the WOW" factor and boy did he deliver! I was in awe of how beautiful the room looked when we walked in. I did half high, half low centerpieces. He made my vision look even BETTER than I envisioned (and I have HIGH standards). All of our bouquets were gorgeous as well. I was still enjoying my beautiful bridal bouquet at home a week later. Don't hesitate to book Golden Gate. Jay and his team are amazing. I wish I had read these reviews instead of trusting what I read on TheKnot and in Rhode Island Monthly. The Studio itself should have given me a red flag. Recently had a wedding in Rhode Island, and Golden Gate came highly recommended. Jay had done business at this venue numerous times and was aware that wind was a factor. The silk wrap over the arch (chuppah) blew off prior to the wedding and his staff was no where to be found and were unreachable via cell phone. It was finally correctly minutes before the ceremony was to begin. The "simple elegant" concept of the greenery through the arch looked ridiculous and way too understated, in spite of the cost. The centerpieces, although again simple elegant, died by the end of the night. Two substantial arrangements for the ceremony were supposed to be on columns and were placed on the ground. I paid a lot of money for very little return. I will follow-up with Rhode Island Monthly and The Knot, as well as my many friends in Rhode Island with upcoming weddings and not recommend Golden Gate. read more

I am not a huge flower person like some people are, but I knew flowers were essential to have at our wedding. We decided to go with Golden Gate Studios because they were on the list of preferred vendors from our venue (Lake Pearl) and we heard they can do just about anything. The first meeting we had with them down at their location with Jay left us in awe. We were probably most excited about our flowers more than anything else at that point! Jay asked a lot of questions and was taking notes, and by the end of our meeting, he rattled off a whole bunch of flower types for the bouquets that I've never even heard of, but he seemed so confident and enthused that I trusted him completely. He also did our centerpieces which were GORGEOUS! I still have guests telling me how beautiful our centerpieces were. They were large gold tree branches that came out of a flower box base with 2-3 votive candles hanging off the branches. They were breathtaking! We talked about the bouquets months and months before the wedding, and you don't know how they will look until that day. Let me tell you... I was getting ready in the bridal suite, and my mom was lacing up my dress, and I had my back to the door when they arrived. All of the girls "OOH'd" and "AHH'd," and I couldn't turn around to see them. She placed them on the couch in front of me, and I think I nearly cried. Weird for someone who's not big into flowers, right? They were beautiful! Oranges and reds and yellows. I wanted them bright and vibrant and Autumn-y, and they were JUST that. I could not be happier with Golden Gate. They are very reasonably priced, and you get a LOT for your money. I couldn't recommend them enough. read more

I am an out-of-town bride, who grew up in Rhode Island and Jay made all my dreams come true with his beautiful bouquets, uplighting and centerpieces. I used Golden Gate for a large spring event in Newport, and was horribly disappointed in what was delivered to us. The flowers themselves were fine, but the vases were hideous! Tall, bright chartreuse vases and shiny purple ones took the place of the low, clear glass cubes I had ordered. Just imagine how they looked with our royal blue and white table linens. I subsequently wrote a letter of complaint to Jay which was ignored - then Karma had us meet in an elevator this past weekend in Newport, and I told him that I was still waiting for a reply to my letter - he just shrugged. I asked "Is this how you do business?" and he just shrugged again. BEWARE, because if you get your flowes one hour before your big event and they are UGLY, there's not much you can do about it, and I guarantee you won't get much satisfaction out of Jay Lane of Golden Gate studios! PS: You get what you pay for, so don't pay him very much at all!! read more

I was blown away with all the girls flowers including my own! Stunning! We sunk a peak at the ballroom before all the guests arrived and I was almost brought to tears on how amazing it looked! Jay and his staff at Golden Gate are simply the best. We used them for our Newport, RI wedding and everything was both seamlessly perfect and beyond what we could have asked for. They were like magic little elves on our wedding day, did their thing, made it look like a perfect dream, and even repurposed the ceremony arrangements into the ballroom for the reception during our brief cocktail hour. (Again, unseen unheard magic little elves!!). Jay absolutely nailed it with regard to creating arrangements and centerpieces that reflected out asks and wants. He even helped us make it look more elaborate by suggesting ideas and options without up selling us. We didn't feel the slightest bit pressured or being sold at all, it was so friendly and easy. And finally, we had some weird family dynamics and needed an extra corsage and buttoner day of the wedding and he already had them prepared, being the professional he is and knowing that kind of stuff happens with weddings. I cannot speak highly enough about Jay and Golden Gate who provided flowers for our wedding earlier this month. I was so impressed with him from our very first meeting where he took my simple answers about color scheme and bridal party and created an incredible plan that brought to life the vision I didn't even know I wanted! My autumnal wedding flowers were beyond spectacular, from my giant gorgeous bouquet to the arrangements displayed at the reception. The biggest hit was the pumpkins at each table, carved with table number and surrounded by beautiful blooms and votives. Our guests were so impressed! Not only were the flowers simply perfect, but Jay was extremely professional throughout my year of planning. He was always available to answer my questions and change little details along the way right up until my wedding day. This was even more helpful to me as a Rhode Island native now turned Texan who planned most of my wedding remotely - he readily arranged phone meetings and worked seamlessly with my parents who are local. He is one of the nicest gentlemen I've ever met and made me feel like he was truly invested in making our day as special as possible. They recently did the flowers for my May wedding and I was very impressed. The prices seem fair - comparable to other florists in the area. The listened well to what I wanted and created gorgeous bouquets and accent flowers for the church and reception. They also delivered everything as requested and even transferred the flowers from the church to the reception for us. The vases that the flowers came in were tactful. Do NOT trust what Jay tells you! They messed up everything. I made it clear that I wanted my flowers to look natural and not so stiff looking like someone put it together. I wanted light pink flowers because my bridesmaids had light pink dresses. I also asked for my bouquet to be small and he said that he wouldn't make it any smaller than he thought I wouldn't "like it". (How would he know what I like!?!) and kept my bouquet at $150,.. Which I did not care for but he told me I had no choice and I wouldn't be happy, come to the day of my wedding... I had a huge bouquet that I hated, it took away from my beautiful dress because of how huge it was, I absolutely hated it. My bridesmaids bouquets where BRIGHT pink!! When I made it extra clear I wanted soft pink. The bouquets were put together so stiff looking and it did not look natural. I wanted them loose and flowing and they did nothing of that. I called Jay and left a message. I never got a call back. I never got any money back, nothing!!! DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME... BECAUSE THE DAY OF YOUR WEDDING WILL COME AND THEY DROP THEM OFF AND DONT CARE ABOUT YOU AND WHAT YOU SPECIFICALLY ASKED FOR!! read more
