Silver Sticks is the local chinese restaurant in Provost, Alberta…read more
When you walk in, the decor is a little dated. However, you are greeted by a warm, friendly smile of the most adorible little asian lady.
Most of the combo meals are in the $9-10.50 range, so you can go all out and get a huge plateful of food for very little money.
I ordered the combo G (picture included), which came with ginger beef, sweet and sour chicken balls, fried rice and chicken chow mein. I also ordered an egg roll (since they are my favorite).
They brought out the egg roll too, and it was deep fried to the max, which doesn't bother me. It was very crispy, but it was hot and pretty yummy by my standards.
The ginger beef was unlike any I have had in the past, both in appearance and flavor. The flavor was extremely sweet. I know that ginger beef is always sweet, but take regular ginger beef and add an extra tablespoon of molasses. It actually tasted really good at first, but it was almost a little overwhelming before I could finish. Also the appearance was different. It wasn't as much in strips, as it was in very thin chunks. What I valued though, is that it was cooked. It was tender, but when I looked inside - there was no pink. Nothing gives me the willies more than rare or medium ginger beef.
The chicken balls were yummy, but were quite dough-y. Full points for taste, but a bit more chickien would have been awesome.
The chow mein and the fried rice were both really good, As you can see from the photo, the presentation was good as well.
I left there full and satisfied, and the server was a ray of sunshine. She was the most smiley, friendly person I met in Provost.
I would go back to this restaurant. It wasn't my best chinese food experience worldwide, but it was okay and the staff there make me want to support this establishment again.
