I had the soup and sandwich special which was hamburger soup and I choose a roast beef sandwich. That sandwich was really good. I would definitely order it again. The soup was homemade style with big chunky veggies and lots of hamburger. The drip coffee comes with refills at your table. This is our second visit quite by accident as we didn't realize that we've been here until my wife visited the washroom. It's clean but it has a look that makes you think that you've stepped into the staff only washroom. It shares space with a water heater and other utilities. Funny actually. The only thing not up to par is the WiFi or lack thereof. My phone saw a Telus WiFi service available but I didn't ask if it was there's although it was password protected. I definitely recommend Kool Beans Cafe.

The buffet is a local favourite deal, but the order items offer fresh, hot quality at a reasonable price. Appetizers vary in expectations for the seasoned Chinese consumer, but entree preparation and portions are fairly standard. Ambience is casual family style, and customers can expect to be cheerfully greeted by the charming Ms. Lin upon entry. Less popular but available are their western cuisine menu including sandwiches and limited alcohol options. Chinese (jasmine) tea is extra.
Silver Sticks is the local chinese restaurant in Provost, Alberta…read more When you walk in, the decor is a little dated. However, you are greeted by a warm, friendly smile of the most adorible little asian lady. Most of the combo meals are in the $9-10.50 range, so you can go all out and get a huge plateful of food for very little money. I ordered the combo G (picture included), which came with ginger beef, sweet and sour chicken balls, fried rice and chicken chow mein. I also ordered an egg roll (since they are my favorite). They brought out the egg roll too, and it was deep fried to the max, which doesn't bother me. It was very crispy, but it was hot and pretty yummy by my standards. The ginger beef was unlike any I have had in the past, both in appearance and flavor. The flavor was extremely sweet. I know that ginger beef is always sweet, but take regular ginger beef and add an extra tablespoon of molasses. It actually tasted really good at first, but it was almost a little overwhelming before I could finish. Also the appearance was different. It wasn't as much in strips, as it was in very thin chunks. What I valued though, is that it was cooked. It was tender, but when I looked inside - there was no pink. Nothing gives me the willies more than rare or medium ginger beef. The chicken balls were yummy, but were quite dough-y. Full points for taste, but a bit more chickien would have been awesome. The chow mein and the fried rice were both really good, As you can see from the photo, the presentation was good as well. I left there full and satisfied, and the server was a ray of sunshine. She was the most smiley, friendly person I met in Provost. I would go back to this restaurant. It wasn't my best chinese food experience worldwide, but it was okay and the staff there make me want to support this establishment again. 15/30

We wanted Chinese and there were two places in town so I asked a couple of people "which of the two Chinese places would you recommend?" Both said Star Express. Very affordable for sure... and I had the Ginger Beef. Wasn't bad, wasn't great but I was very hungry so dove in. I swear I found a few "ginger liver" in my dish though. Couple of pieces seemed off. Otherwise, what the family received looked decent. The broccoli was fresh, crisp and lightly steamed to an emerald green If it wasn't Monday, we would have gone to the Bluez Brews (micro?) pub which was the first suggestion we got for good burgers and steaks. We drove past but they were closed Monday. It was decent. Not fantastic. The 3 stars are based on my personal small town rating system. if you ARE from out of town and it's not Monday, I'd go across Main street to the other side and find Bluez brews just up the street and check them out first.
