This Chinese restaurant has been in business for a long time! I've been going there for at least 25 years! They offer the choice of a buffet or ordering off the menu. Their food is delicious, I never ordered any food that didn't like. Their servings are large. I always get my food to go because I their iced tea is not my favorite. I know that sounds strange but I love iced tea, and I have been know to chose a restaurant just because I think their tea is good. Today, I ordered their lunch special (served until 2:30) "to go" which was General's Chicken. It was great as usual. My favorite dishes are: General's Chicken, chicken and broccoli, and beef and broccoli. Service is quick, call in or to go inside to order... you'll usually have your food within five minutes! We have driven past numerous times over the past few months and noticed there were usually a fair number of cars in the parking lot, so despite the Yelp rating we decided to try it. If you grew up in this area, and this was what you are used to, I suppose it would rate higher. If you've traveled and been exposed to better Chinese food, it doesn't pass muster. We both tried the buffet. Two of the items were cool to the touch, as well as the white rice. The egg rolls were inedible. The hot and sour soups taste was primarily vinegar, couldn't really taste anything else. Staff was friendly and kept the glasses filled, but the building is in need of repairs. One wall corner had water leakage and mold. Seeing that in the seating area makes me wonder what's hidden elsewhere. Won't be returning, and if you're considering Golden Dragon for the first time, you may want to consider finding somewhere else. read more

My group of 3 were very disappointed by the buffet lunch today. Most of the food was overcooked or simply tasted off. Worst of all is that we have had upset stomachs and painful cramps ever since. The BEST Chinese Buffett! We've been coming here for decades. Everything is delicious! The service is always top notch. The hostess is so friendly and welcoming. The bus boy is so kind as well. Living in Greensboro NC the Golden Dragon here is great. The Madison Golden Dragon (no relation) is a nice stop to make when I'm up that way. Employees are watchful over buffet items to help keep them fresh and full and I like that. Hostess is kind, welcoming and patient. Hawaiian chicken is "off the hook" good (and sweet with savory usually turns me away) the chicken is lean and cooked exceptionally well. I'd prefer a grilled/broiled shrimp option, and to be honest, the egg rolls need some changes. Overall, it's underrated here and worth a stop when you cruise thru town! read more

The restaurant was extremely crowded so I thought the food must be good here. I ordered sesame chicken, vegetable fried rice, 1 quart of wonton soup, and One eggroll to go. First the wonton soup came in to one point containers with only two wontons in each container,the wonton themselves tasted very Dowie, the fried rice had a very strange aroma and a very weird aftertaste, The sesame chicken was mediocre at best and the eggroll was very small and again not very tasty. As I said the restaurant was crowded and the patrons seem to be enjoying themselves. If you're in the area and just have to have Chinese I guess it's OK but I will never eat there again. read more

A very convenient Chinese food establishment in the area. Have been coming here regularly for over six months now. I have not had a bad dish yet. Would give a full five stars except for the fact that the moo shu pork or beef dishes are very hard to get as they don't always have all the inventory to prepare the meal. Otherwise, no complaints. This place has been here for quite a while, perhaps 40+ years or more. It shows sign of its age. It is well known to those from Madison and Mayodan. My wife and I ate here on the recommendation of two former Mayodan fans who like the restaurant a lot. They said it was their favorite Chinese place. I cannot say I agree emphatically but, for a buffet, it was not bad. It was NOT, however, authentic Chinese, but many of the entrees were good by the standards set by East Coast equivalents. That being said, East Coast equivalents cater to a high Americanized pallet. I started with the hot and sour soup which was not bad. They had crispy wontons to top the soup and white pepper on the table which is always a good sign that they know patrons who know Chinese are looking foe white pepper not black. The also had won-ton soup where wonton's could be added separately. That's cool. The egg rolls, very easy to make great, teetered between barely okay and ugh. The chicken wings were the best thing we ate - juicy, perfectly cooked, flavorful, and not overly salty. Pork dishes with mushrooms were down right tasty. So was the pepper steak which was tender but not over cooked. The small noodles (Lo Mein) were good. I did not try the fried rice. They had homemade donuts for dessert that my wife enjoyed. They had HIBACHI / Teriyaki on the menu but not the buffet. This would NOT be my first choice for Chinese in the Triad area, but I could see myself eating here again. The Sampan in Winston-Salem has authentic Chinese but is more expensive. The service here was incredibly friendly so it earned them the three-stars. This place has been here for a while and they haven't really added anything new except for a hibachi grill. That being said they don't need to. The buffet has always been consistently good. All the items are fresh and are constantly maintained and refreshed with new food when they start to become old or cold. It's not a big buffet like the 500 item buffets in Greensboro. It has around 10 to 15 items from different chicken, pork and beef dishes. And the normal fried area and soup bar. All the dishes offered are tasty and flavorful. My favorite has to be the black pepper chicken. Also they have in my opinion the best egg rolls I have ever tasted. They have won over the small town of Madison with consistent service and food. Are you kidding me? I know this is small town NC, so it's mostly my fault. I'm not a super stringent "won't eat anything that's come into contact with meat" kind of person, but I do expect some options considering this place has "hibachi". However, I'm not sure what the hibachi is for, since there is nothing with which to construct a hibachi meal. Everything on the buffet has meat in it. No green beans, no spring rolls, no veggie dishes - except soggy "vegetable lo mein" that has chicken in it. I thought my meal would be saved by some iceberg lettuce salad, but no luck. The "house" dressing only looks like ginger dressing... and tastes like burnt sesame seeds. This is a vegetarian's worst nightmare. read more
