Some good friends of ours recommended this restaurant and they are usually good judges of food. So I'm not sure what went wrong. Golden China is the second worst Chinese food I've ever had. Due to covid they no longer do eat in dining nor have their buffet, so it's takeout only which is fine. We ordered on our friends advice, the spare ribs, the Singapore Mei fun and Hunan Beef. Starting with the ribs. If you could get past all the gristle and chewy dried up meat the flavor was tolerable. I tried one but could not get through it due to how bad the meat was so I moved on. Next we tried the Singapore Mei fun. What little bits of chicken, pork and shrimp that was in this dish was dry, and again chewy. The two shrimp in it were tiny and mealy. The noodles rather than typical wide noodles were thin vermicelli which is not the usual noodles but was not a worry. But the entire dish was oddly strongly and pleasantly Indian curry flavored. I mean bright yellow curry. That was the dishes highlight but could not really save it. Lastly the Hunan beef was so far away from Hunan style that it was laughable. I had asked for it spicy, and the young woman who looked to be a waitress but ended up cooking it asked if I wanted it extra spicy and I said sure. It was so mild and flavorless we doctored it up with sesame oil (Hunan style), and a bit of black bean chili sauce. On a bright note the steamed rice was okay. If you are in a hurry and want really poor Chinese this place is perfect. Update. So I called our friends and my suspicions were correct. The chef in the evenings when they have gotten food there is quite old and very thin and his wife is usually there running things. The young woman who cooked our food is not the chef. They also confirmed the Singapore Mei fun is not yellow curry flavored and is with a very spicy red chili paste type sauce. The young woman probably figured we would not know the difference. That said, with a little work she might be on to a new dish. We will give them a second chance. We will just be sure the regular chef is in the kitchen. read more

Highly recommend General Tso's chicken. Hubby loves the Hot and Sour soup. Glad it's so close for good takeout!

Ordered to go Four Seasons and Pork Fried Rice. Fried rice was good. Four Seasons was not what I expected. Only 2 shrimp in the meal, imitation crab meat was in the meal which was not listed. The steak was none like I have ever had before, not sure what cut of beef was prepared. Very disappointed, will not order from here again. read more

I came in to have lunch at 2 pm. And said I would like the buffet and at frist they said three making me think that the lunch buffet was not ready til 3 pm. So I sat down and decided to wait I waited for about 30 minutes so it was 2:30 PM and someone came up to me and says can I help you and I said I was waiting for the Buffet he said oh we close at three. I said its not three. I got here at 2. He then changed it to. That they closed it early. I said so you had me sitting here for 30 mins having me think that the lunch buffet was opening at 3. He was very rude. I asked to speak to a manager. And shocker. He says he is the manager. I asked to speak to the owner, he said the owner is not in. After that I just walked out before I said some very bad words. Oh and also to top it off the buffet still had all the food in it. read more

Tried for the first time. Ordered the sesame chicken. It's a fried dish but the chicken was not crispy. Many Chinese places fail at doing this. Flavor was good just the quality and fundamental cooking was off a bit. At least they did not drench it in sauce. Service was good. We grabbed takeout from here a week ago and it was really yummy. The wonton soup had a depth of flavors, the egg rolls were crispy and hot, the generals chicken was tasty and the Mongolian beef was full of beef and veggies. Blandy the Bear has made a visit to this place and sprinkled her fairy cardboard dust all over the dishes. I had the most flavorless cashew chicken I think I've ever tried. Thanks Blandy! Even with the sriracha, it was barely palatable. The egg roll was the most flavorful thing on the plate. Even the fried rice had barely any flavor. I also asked for white rice, not fried rice, and when it was bright to me, no plate was given to mix it with the chicken. So I had to slough off some fried rice into the charging plate for the steamed rice. The cashews seemed to be roasted and then tossed on, dry as a cattle bone in the Mojave. The vegetables were so soaked, the flavor ad long since boiled off. If I wasn't so hungry, and tired of looking for a place among the trees, I'd have just excused myself and left. Is it that southerners have no frame of reference? Because this is by no means a great representation of the genre of food. Even by American-Chinese standards. read more

#15, Seafood Delight, was anything but. Three of the six shrimp would have made B.F.Goodrich proud. The "crab" was some melange of pressed fish scrap and red dye. UPDATE: I posted my initial review below yesterday and was very sick last night. I cannot say for sure that this food was the cause, but this was the only food I ate yesterday. And I still have not eaten today as my stomach feels off and I have a world class headache. As I say, I cannot prove it was from eating here, but I won't be taking any chances in the future. Proceed at your own risk. Downgrading from 3 to 1 star. The last of the Chinese restaurants in town that I've tried. (Not including places that serve a mix of Asian foods) I tried the buffet today and, overall, it's not bad. I would avoid the Honey Chicken as the sauce tastes like straight up ketchup with some sugar added. The dessert profiteroles (mini cream puffs) tasted like fish. And the fried shrimp were overwhelmed by the breading, but with good flavor in the shrimp itself underneath. But overall, this is the best Chinese buffet in Aberdeen/Southern Pines/Pinehurst, hands down. Sadly, this isn't a really high bar. They do small batches and replace them frequently. Don't pass up the Chicken Stix - they look a little burnt on the edges and like they'd be dried out. They were not! They were nice and moist with good flavor. Anything with garlic sauce was very good and the Sesame Chicken was tasty, too. The spring roll tasted like it had been sitting for awhile (there were no egg rolls - I expect they're better and had all been snapped up by repeat customers. I didn't sample the rice, but the Lo Mein was tasty and worked well as a base for the other dishes in place of rice. It was too hot for soup. Which brings me to the biggest strike against this restaurant. It was a temperature index of 104 (95 but feels like 104) outside and there was no discernible air conditioning for most of my time in the restaurant. Which certainly discouraged lingering over lunch! It did cool off slightly just before I left. I'll be back to try the regular menu for takeout. If I want the buffet again, I'll have to wait for late fall and winter. read more

After ordering food at the counter, I regretted our decision to try this restaurant. The napkin dispensers, fountain dispensers, counters....everything was dirty. So disgusting and unappetizing. The food tasted greasy and the employees say down and ate at a nearby table while running back and forth to wait on customers. That looked unprofessional.
