We had a pipe burst on Christmas Eve and were in need of a plumber. I called Gold Star and hung up when there wasn't an answer but they called right back! They had a plumber one town over who ended up at my house 10 minutes after I called dispatch. Christian was great and explained everything that needed to be done. They will be back here in the spring to complete the fix but for now things are holding steady thanks to Christian's experise. After Christian left, dispatch called to confirm we were happy with the work. They also sent us a pdf receipt to show what we were charged, Honesty? Stay Away--I called them for a simple AC repair-easy access-no materials, perhaps it would take, tops, 15 minutes. They were professional, service, time etc. But it appears that this borders on a scam, a very well polished procedure to screw the home owner. The Tech came back after consulting in his truck, with 3 options. The least expensive, and totally obvious, was why i called them. It was $574 for 15 minutes work, and i paid the $79 service call. This works out to about $2400 per hour as a labor rate. My advise, unless you pay in Yen, is to go elsewhere, any where else. read more

Broken pipes replacement. Expensive. I've been a long time customer. At times don't feel valued. We thought we liked Eric & Marc. However, Upon returning today from a hospital visit. My neighbor approached me to comment that I should not be doing business with Gold Star Plumbing because he overheard a conversation between both men. The comment was "let's make the job expensive because it's work" Maybe Eric & Marc we're not as nice as we thought after all. Definitely, will not call them again. However, I agreed to pay the $3000, which I negotiated from the original quote of $3500, because I had an emergency where the second floor shower drain was leaking into the basement in a tenant's apartment, now I'm still trying to get over this nagging feeling that I was nicely robbed. The plumber arrived at my house at 10 am and left by 1 pm, with my payment check of $3000, meaning, I paid $1000 for each hour. I think Gold Star is a company for the very wealthy and for people with extreme emergencies, and because, price-wise, they go straight for the jugular, I would not recommend it to anybody. read more

This was our first need of a plumber in quite a while and we were concerned that we would be ripped off....We checked for reviews on both YELP and Home Advisor and were led to Gold Star Service...I called and spoke to Lisa this morning and explained the problem...leak in our kitchen faucet !! She gave me a 4 hour window for the repair but called back and said she had a repairman available in half an hour. She advised Jose would be coming and I would get a call half hour before his arrival...All was set and he arrived shortly. Firstly, Jose was a gentlemen and a pleasure to deal with. He checked out the situation and advised that a new faucet assembly was required as the old one had multiple leaks. He arranged for delivery of a new similar faucet assembly to be brought over. It arrived in 20 minutes and was the brushed chrome we wanted and retractable like our old one. Bottom line is that Jose did a bang up job for us. We love the new faucet and are pleased that this leak is no more. The company worked with us on price and we were overjoyed with the experience with Jose. We would recommend this company and we will use them if the need arises in the future...;they are now our official "Plumber" read more

Company was to do a furnace inspection on a perfectly running boiler to check for possible leaks from rust stains. They check it and attempt to hit me with a $2,900 repair bill. I told them no way, the boss, Matt, then tells technician he is willing to work on the price and maybe bring it under $1,000. Huh? I told him I don't trust them and wouldn't have them work on it for free. The next day I called another company and furnace passed inspection, no leaks and they charged me a $135 service call. Gold Star Service is a fraud and they border on criminal. Avoid them at all cost. read more

House flooded after my wife took a shower so I called for an emergency call which is $250 minimum. A very pleasant technician shows up and tells me how I have a huge issue without actually fully seeing what was wrong , nor did he attempt to drain the water from the flooded area or clear up the area. He then proceeds to look at drain trap in front of my house, then stick to initial assessment which he estimated to include digging up my house and finding the main line at a cost of thousands, all without doing anything, Again he didn't drain the water, didn't offer any help in terms of water use other than not to. Luckily I had a shop vac to drain the water myself. I called again a few days later to have someone actually come tell me what is wrong and a price range of costs and they want to charge another $150 just to come. This company's prices are insane 3-5 times higher than others. Their techs show up with basic tools and they try to up sell you. They wanted $580 to snake a sink clog (up to 25ft) and $800 for a tub leak (both estimates just from visual inspection) They tried to upsell me to $3000! All from a basic leak... Admittedly this is an unusual review. Goldstar came yesterday to do work related to a leaky pipe. We had an issue unrelated to the quality of the work which was excellent. I spoke to the receptionist and gave her an overview of the concern . Marc called back within an hour and heard my complaint without becoming defensive. He made a recommendation on how to resolve the issue that was more than fair. I would highly recommend Gold Star Service. I needed a plumber for a leaking water main valve, so wanted to make sure I used the 'right' company! In all honesty, I was ready to call a couple of other local plumbers until I read their reviews on YELP and other sites. I wanted to avoid past mistakes and the negative reviews were scary!! So, I kept looking and finally came across a nice-looking website on Gold Star. Doing more homework, I found the majority of reviews were very positive and impressive. I chose to downplay the few negative reviews since they did not appear all that credible to me. Overall, they seemed like a reputable company who cares about quality, and after speaking to Lisa on the phone, this made me even more comfortable about hiring them. Derlin, the service tech, arrived in uniform and was very professional and courteous. His work was top notch. He was polite, considerate of our home (he wore slip-on booties to avoid tracking dirt throughout the house), explained all the work and options available, and genuinely represented Gold Star very well. The owner would be pleased with Derlin's performance and appearance! Now for the downside...they are NOT cheap. Expect to pay about 25% higher than other plumbers. You can certainly find more expensive plumbers, and I have left reviews on a couple of them, so really, do your homework! If price is your only concern, then you will be disappointed in Gold Star. But, quality of work, leaving a clean house, and good reputation are all important to me. I felt the additional cost is justified and while my spouse was a little disappointed in the cost, the end result does make her quite happy! I am just tired of paying for poor quality and cleaning up afterwards! Again, a big thank you to Derlin! He appeared genuinely proud to work for Gold Star and the fact that they stand by their work. He stated that there have been times when a return service call was necessary, but that they did NOT charge additionally to fix the problem. If true, then they are quite different from their competitors! From my experience, I believe Derlin and am pleased about choosing Gold Star to fix my problem! Also, be prepared for a little sales pitch. They were selling much higher levels of service and warranties, but I did not want to pay the HUGE costs associated with them. We needed to replace our boiler, hot water service and HVAC system but were quoted astronomical prices (that we just could not afford) from several other businesses. Earlier this week our hot water system died completely, and we were faced with the dilemma of whether to replace it, or convert from oil to gas and upgrade everything. We decided to get one final quote before deciding on which company to use, and I'm so glad we did, because not only did we get a much cheaper price, we were met by true professionals who talked to us about the various options available, and listened to what we were asking instead of just trying to get the sale. Their phone follow up, customer service and communication is exceptional, and they were very prompt with their service. We met with Luis on Wednesday afternoon, and by lunch time the next day, we had a brand new boiler, HVAC system and most importantly..., HOT WATER!!!!!! Our toilet was leaking and was leaking through cracks in the bathroom tile floor into the kitchen underneath. The kitchen ceiling was opening up and dripping the water into the sink. The shower button that pushes in to start the shower popped out. The kitchen sink leaked water out of the faucet and dripped underneath the sink when turned on. We got a new shower system, brand new toilet and new sink faucet and pipping underneath; all for $2,800.00. Awesome price for all that replacement and work. They came 30 minutes after we called and did everything on that day in one day. They are my permanent plumbers. They are available 24/7. read more

gold star is a terrible company. I would never hire them and would never recommend to anyone else. I have one hot water issue in my house that I do not have hot water suddenly. I look information from my hot water tank contract and find gold star service. Gold star send their technician to my house on the next day. The technician take a look a pipe without testing anything and told me the reason I do not have hot water is due to my heating element is broken. He then provided me a list to replace all tank. price is from $3000 to $4000 and charge me $35 for service fee. after he left, I push reset button on my oil burn. Then I have hot water in my house from then. Summary, gold start service is a company does not know anything about water heating system and oil burn. My wife and I recently found out that our oil fueled hot water tank was slowly leaking from the bottom (13 year old tank - it was at the end of its life expectancy). Searching for reputable companies to replace an oil hot water tank on such short notice was extremely difficult. We had our oil company give us a quote but they were going to overcharge us by 200% and wouldn't even give us a discount! We looked on Google and came across Gold Star Plumbing. I called them in the morning and spoke to Lisa who was hands-down one of the easiest and kind people I have ever dealt with. She took note of our situation and set us up with an appointment between 11am-2pm. She called us half an hour before the technician was to arrive to our house which was nice just in case we were out the house running errands. Jose arrived at our house and we were surprised by his professionalism (he put on shoe covers before he walked into our house! Huge Plus!) and his knowledge. He took a tour of our tank and presented us with several options as well as different pricing plans. At no point did we ever feel pressured into buying something we did not want. Jose and I agreed upon the best option for our family and set an installation date for the following day. Jose and Luis arrived on schedule and completed the job without any issues. They literally left the house cleaner than it was before they arrived! He gave me instructions on how to maintain and work the hot water tank. This was my first time using Gold Star they where recommend to me by a friend. I had a leaking pipe in the extension if my den. This caused flooding in my basement bedroom? I called your company and the same day a technician was at my door. I needed to wait until the next morning it was a pretty big and difficult job they would be here by 8am next day. Let me start off by saying that I know cannot even screw ina light bulb correctly. I know nothing about plumbing or home improvement. A year after buying my house, we notice anleak in my living room direclty underneath my tub. Enter Goldstar. I requested a quote on Yelp on an evening in April. The next morning, I had a message from their office. We scheduled an appointment for that Saturday. 1 hour before arriving, Lucas, the tech, called me to tell me he was on the way. I also recieved an email advising me he was on his way- with his picture in the actual email. Upon arrival, Lucas introduced himself, put on boot covers, and entered my house. He quickly assessed the problem, and offerred solutions. He was super transparent, and explained what he was doing every step of the way. He carefully removed the crown molding in the living room, cut a clean hole in the ceiling, and fixed the piping in my bathtub. Once complete, he cleaned the bathub, workspace, and helped ne move the furniture back to where it belonged. I paid with my credit card and he emailed the invoice to the email address that was already on file. Details matter, and this company has a keen focus on the things that matter. In March of 2017 I was vacationing in Arizona and my neighbor called me that water was pouring out in front of my house in New York and it was Saturday. I went to Home Advisor (which I had used before) and found "Goldstar Service". I was charged the $249. service call, (not applicable to repairs), and charged over $3000. for the emergency repair (water pipe that leads from main supply from street to home was leaking). This July the same neighbor called me again about the same problem (and I was away again). I called Goldstar, and they said, "you only had a 90 day warranty", they would send someone to repair it at my cost and charge me again for the service call. Their attitude was the most unprofessional, workmanship of poor quality, and would NEVER recommend them for anything. Extremely poor business attitude and no pride in the quality of work they perform. I will not go into how aggravated, sick to my stomach they made me. read more
