Where the true art of Japanese cuisine comes to life. This tiny gem of a restaurant creates a beautiful and balanced experience. Rachel is the owner or manager I am guessing. She is very passionate about the menu and is very attentive to everyone. Thankfully, as our food was served she was there to explain that the best way to experience the chef's creation is to eat it as it presented (without soy sauce) first. She went on to explain that each dish is created with specific textures and flavors in mind to create an intentional balanced bite. She is absolutely correct and I am so glad we listened. In fact, after trying the "second" bite with soy sauce, we recognized that it was much better without it. The soy sauce is homemade and delicious but the sushi is so perfectly executed, it really does not need anything at all to shine. This is not your average sushi joint. The food and service will blow you away. Get the Princess Peach Roll if it's available. The Tiger Roll and the Flame Touch were also fantastic. Hint: the tiger roll comes with lemon slices on top - do not remove the lemon. Trust me.
We've been hearing great things about Gohan Sushi for a while now, and I'm so happy we finally made the visit! We were lucky to snag a table for two and know to make reservations next time. The menu is primarily sushi, and I gravitated towards some of their unique speciality rolls, like the heaven roll with tempura banana and shrimp (which worked surprisingly well), and the flame touch roll with steak. The chicken katsu was delicious too! My husband loves Dragon Ball, so we loved seeing the references on the menu. Very attentive service from our waitress and the owner. We will be adding this into our rotation of go-to sushi spots!
Favorite: spicy salmon roll!!! Great lunch deal, would definitely come back. 2 rolls for 12.95, 3 rolls for 17.95. Chicken katsu was alright as is, coleslaw on the side or curry sauce would definitely add to it. Definitely need to Try: Paradise cake & Tiger roll next time. Service was great! And ambiance was cozy!
The Food is amazing here! Wonderful service and quick. The Omakase was flown directly from Japan
Delish. Kani salad was the star of the show. Absolutely incredible. One of the best I've ever had. Roll was fresh & creative.
I've seen the accolades... Yelp's Top 100 Places to Eat in 2025. I've seen it all over IG. I had to try it of course. It's located in a plaza and it's a small, cozy spot; there were about 7 tables. I don't think they accept reservations. We went on Saturday for dinner, there were a group of about 15 to 20 and then my family. I was glad we were able to get a table for 4! The service was great! Food came out fast too. My kids had the chicken katsu with fries which they enjoyed. My husband had the sashimi platter and Philly roll, which he said was fresh and tasty. I ordered 3 sushi rolls: Dragon Roll- it had crispy tempura shrimp, avocado wrapped in sushi rice and nori seaweed; it was topped with eel sauce and sesame seeds. Shrimp Tempura Roll- which had Tempura Shrimp, Avocado, Cucumber, Tobiko, and Homemade Eel Sauce Spicy Crunchy Tuna Roll- fresh minced tuna, seaweed, rice, and I believe popped rice to make it crunchy Honestly, all delicious. I couldn't find a negative. The sushi were fresh and innovative. The menu had so many delicious options that I wanted to try all of it in one sitting, if I was a rich sumo wrestler lol. Yes, it's worth the hype and I'll be back soon!
Despite countless friends, particularly the foodies, raving about Gohan, my countless trips to the plaza for other reasons, and my love of sushi, I for some reason had never been until yesterday. The long anticipation and acclaim made for extremely high expectations, and I have to say they were met! It was pretty incredible sushi. Everyone there was super friendly and welcoming. The space is small, but tables are arranged nicely to maximize space as best they can. The servers were happy to give suggestions and asked what types of things I usually enjoyed. I had also been told by friends that the special rolls were a must. I over ordered to have leftovers, so I went with one of the special rolls my server recommended which was the sashimi roll, then the heaven roll, a yellowtail-scallion roll, and a sweet potato roll. Execution and technical skill was top tier. I was really impressed. Even the small details, knife cuts, ingredient ratios and proportions. Careful thought was clearly put into each roll. The special rolls were brilliantly conceived. The heaven roll was my favorite, and had avocado, and tempura shrimp and banana. Then the sashimi roll was rice-less, and had spicy crunchy yellowtail-tuna-salmon and mango inside, and then more raw tuna & salmon, avocado and thinly sliced lemon on top. It was served with a chili sauce intended for dipping. I was asked to try the special rolls as intended first. It was perfect as is! They have homemade soy sauce even, but I only used a little bit with the sweet potato and yellowtail rolls. Hardly needed. Excellent ginger and wasabi too, and plating was of course done with care as well. It was a great experience overall. Prices were great, especially for the quality. Very average even though nothing else about the experience was. If totally understand why Gohan is so beloved, and I am happy to report I now love it too. I anxiously look forward to trying more rolls!
My wife and I have been really enjoying a new found love of sushi so on a recent date night I searched for top sushi restaurants in the state and we made a drive. Glad we made a reservation because there are only maybe ten small tables and all were filled when we arrived on a Thursday evening. Food was all excellent. The best gyoza I've had and the homemade soy sauce was a nice kicker. Rolls we had were all excellent and we absolutely will be back.
Small, very modern establishment with excellent service! I stopped by for lunch and got the 2 roll lunch special with miso soup and a seaweed salad. Delicious and fresh! Highly recommend!
I am obsessed. I see why it's a fan favorite and ranked on Yelp's Top 100 in the US. Gohan is now my #1 favorite for sushi. Like honestly in the entire country. It is on the smaller side because it's so unassuming in the middle of a strip mall. But the chefs are incredible with wonderful servers. The owner is the sweetest woman ever and she loves chatting with everyone coming in. Everything is made in house, even the soy sauce. The art and craft behind what is put on the menu is amazing. You should absolutely check them out!!!!!
Very good sushi, worth the trek. Came here because of the top 100 list entry. Plaza is very unassuming, in the middle of a shopping district. When we came, the restaurant was 15 minutes from closing. They take an hour for lunch every day, and shut down fully. They let us order to go though, so we put in our order rapidly and waited in the car. Food came out quickly, took some pics and dug in. The sushi was top notch, even if they were all to-go. The tuna was treated well, fresh and seasoned lightly. The wasabi was fresh and the ginger was punchy. The flaming torch roll was beefy and toasty, the dark angel roll was tangy, creamy and spicy. The only issue was the spicy tuna was a little mushy with little texture difference. We would've loved actually dining in and getting the full experience, but if this is the quality one gets when they are closing up just shows their commitment to their craft. It's really good sushi.
The sushi here lives up to its hype! The sushi rolls were fresh and creative. The service is good, seems like they have a lot of regulars and since it's such a small place, you'd get recognize quickly if you came a few times. There's only seating for about a max of 20 people or 5 separate tables, really small. They only serve nonalcoholic drinks and I think they are BYOB.

I concur with all of the glowing reviews for Gohan!! Their food is expertly prepared, and it is full of flavor. We stopped in and ordered 3 rolls for takeout. We enjoyed chatting with the woman who took our order while the chefs prepared our food. She described the flavors in some of their best selling menu items, and helped us make our selections. We settled on the layer cake roll, the flame torched roll, and the spicy crunchy yellowtail roll. They were incredibly fresh and delicious. All were full of flavor, yet mild - in a good way! Each roll was visually appealing as well. The food was on par with high end sushi that l've had and the prices were good. Now that we've finally tried Gohan, I anticipate it being our new regular sushi spot. There's a lot on the menu, and I can't wait to try it!! Another reason I want to return is for the friendly service. 5 stars!!! read more
I could not kick my sushi craving, so a fellow Yelp elite and I decided to come back. Boyyyyyy, was it yummy! The owner was super sweet and so informative, it really made for a personable experience! We got a bunch of things including the lunch special three rolls of shrimp tempura roll, yellowtail scallion roll and spicy tuna roll with a salad...YUM! My daughter got the shrimp, fried rice, and the fried rock shrimp... she ate every bit and said it was the best fried rice she's ever had! My friend and I ordered two specialty rolls and the octopus appetizer...YUMMO! We finished our meal with the Ube ice cream... so creamy and delicious! I cannot wait to return Gohan has stolen my heart! read more

Gohan Sushi offers exceptional sushi dishes with its emphasis on fresh, high-quality ingredients. I can say with confidence it's also the best sushi we've had in CT so far and I know many can attest. Each dish is beautifully plated, making it as visually stunning as it is delicious. The sushi is incredibly fresh, from the melt-in-your-mouth sashimi to the perfectly crafted rolls. The service is attentive and friendly. Whether you're a sushi enthusiast or a casual diner, Gohan Sushi provides a meal that's as satisfying to the palate as it is to the eyes. read more

Hidden Gem!! I am still thinking about how delicious this meal was.. my family and I had a few rolls, the sashimi platter and chicken fried rice. It was immediately clear that the food was made with high quality ingredients. The selection, quality and flavor is some of the best I ever had. Service was great - Rachel was wonderful and the Sushi Master even came out to make sure we enjoyed our food. The restaurant was nice and clean, highly recommended! read more

As you can see by the reviews this place is just exceptional sushi and food. They are truly chef's here with the flavors they put together and the inventiveness of their creations. If you are going the route of rock shrimp, shumai, chicken wings, noodles, kani salad etc., it is all as good as you find anywhere. Now, when you get to the sushi, that is where they shine even more. We have been to many areas for sushi, including NYC and nobody will outshine this place with freshness and creativity and you should definitely try this place and I am sure you will return read more

Sashimi is extremely fresh and a good variety!! Very friendly staff. They aim to satisfy customer's taste buds and happy mood. Rice is really good too. They focus on details. Though I wish the wasabi is hand grounded. Decor is simple but tasteful. Looks like a lot of repeating customers. read more

If you are looking for fresh sushi with an unlimited variety of rolls- Gohan is a must try for you! Highly recommend starting off with the butternut squash soup! Tiger roll, Mr. Shrek roll, and Chefs Signature roll were amongst a few of my favorites! The Heaven roll was also very good!!! And I cannot say enough about the owners- so friendly and accommodating!! Very clean place as well. Also- be sure to leave room for dessert! The ice cream comes in flavors such as Ube, Green Tea, Ginger, and Red Bean! read more
I waited a few days to post this review. I wanted to let the experience settle in before I commented on it. Have you ever had something so good you can't imagine better? That was my feeling as we sampled 5 different rolls from the new Gohan! You can find a Rainbow Roll on most sushi menus. This one was really good! The chef's signature rolls are where you should live! The Dark Angel Roll was amazing! The Paradise Cake was exceptionally unusual and oh so good. Montage Mountain was like nothing I've ever seen and was possibly the simplest and maybe the best of the bunch. Crispy sushi rice as a base is unique! The staff was wonderful. The restaurant is absolutely spotless. And they even gave us a little thank you sampler. It was an experience that tells me it wasn't a fluke and will be good time and time again. I plan to find out! read more

Saw this spot tucked away in a little plaza and figured I'd give it a try. It's small spot with about 5 tables for dining in. There were a lot of takeout orders going and that's usually a good sign. We ordered miso soup, seaweed salad, scorpion roll, Philly roll, and a spicy crunchy tuna roll. All the rolls were expertly prepared and delicious. Miso soup was full of flavor and the seaweed salad was one of the best I've had. The staff was very friendly and accommodating. Give it a try you won't be disappointed! read more
