Since I wasn't driving my car, and it was stored on private property, I didn't know I needed to…read morehave car insurance until I got a letter from the DMV informing me that my car's registration was going to be suspended since it didn't have insurance. Why do you need liability for a car that's not being used? It makes no sense. Anyway, I contacted California Low Cost Auto Insurance and they got it all cleared up for me. It was nice of them to do. That said, you do get what you pay for. This is very cheap car insurance, and the liability it covers is laughably small. If you do cause a car accident, it's almost certainly going to cost more than what this insurance covers. The law should really require higher minimum liability than this, but it doesn't. So lets all be safe drivers - It's going to cost A LOT if we're not.

The coverage will NOT include anything significant happens on the road but this is true of all off-brand insurance companies. My biggest problem was communicating with them after you have paid. They don't answer. They aren't available. Their robot does not understand language. I told the 21st Century rep. to "call Pacific Preferred yourself" if you don't believe me, that it connects to a number which basically says "Goodbye". It took many minutes; he finally connected me to a bot which, again, did not recognize language. In my case, this is January, and I am paid up until April but I need to change cars. One of their recordings says, you'd have to write them a snail mail to Oklahoma and wait 30 days for a reply. And IF I understand them correctly, it is hard to know what company you are insured under; this could change -- similar to the mortgages during the crisis of 2008. Feels like billions of undeserved dollars. CA is a huge state. Update: I was able to make a reasonable connection and take steps toward accomplishing my goal by using their online form and then receiving both an text an an email from them.
