It does not matter if you park in the farther lots, you can still walk around the edge of the park and enjoy the nice ocean views and rocky scenery. There are areas for picnics, there is a small museum and there's the lighthouse as well. We have come many times and we have seen many people taking pictures with the beautiful background for weddings, quinceañeras, engagements, graduation, and more. Free parking, free to get in.

The lighthouse museum was open as was their little one room aquarium. We picniced in the lawn and as with all State parks it's "carry-in, carry out" so be sure you bring your own trash bags. Same for your pup. Furry friends are welcime as long as you carry their droppings out. Four parking areas are available at no cost. A number of trails dot the area. Most of the area is uneven grass and dirt paths although there are handicapped spots closest to the lighthouse and a paved path leading in that direction. The lighthouse museum is not wheel chair accessible. Composting toilet buildings are located in a field between parking and lighthouse. These are water free and have hand sanitizer available. If you are a forager this location may interest you. Be sure you have a license to enjoy fishing off the rocks.

We came in the winter so there was a lot of snow on the ground, but it was still so beautiful and serene. I imagine it's just gorgeous in the summer. There's plenty of opportunities to climb/hike up trails to get even sicker views. There's also huge rocks you can take a seat and relax on, and everyone we passed was so friendly -- but we only passed a few people every once in a while. The best part? It's covered in the coooolest graffiti on the inside and outside of cement tunnels and abandoned structures that you can walk through. I've never seen anything like it! Then at the beach, take a right and climb over some big rocks and you'll find more beach to walk on as you head towards the Jamestown Bridge. Very easy walk/hike. The trail runs right along the water, offering multiple side paths that take you directly to the shore. Some great views, and although the terrain isn't hilly, it's not straight and has just enough incline to make it challenging without it actually being challenging, if that makes sense.

There's a couple of ways to access this park, depending on if you're here for boating or hiking. If you're here for boating, there's a large lot on Ross Road, between Old Furnace and Ross Pond. If you're here for hiking, there's a nice large lot at the northern end, off of S Frontage Road. There are a number of trails here, and you can make a pretty good day out of it if you want to take a decent hike. The west side of the pond is up on a ridge, where rock climbers have attached ropes at the vista areas, possibly semi permanently. There are some nice views here of the pond, and the trails are mostly well blazed. The Blue Blazed Old Furnace Trail could use some reblazing, but the other trails were fine. A nice little park to check out if you are at this end of CT.

I like that there are points on the trail where you can access the rocks and check out the ocean. You can see ducks, kite surfers, and just crashing waves.
