The assistant told me to take the Wellington away and dry out the neoprene lining as it was a health and safety issue then I was to take it to the Sheffield branch which was 12 miles away. When I said I was not prepared to do this she told me that there was nothing else she could do for me then. I have been trying to sort out the problem now for 4 weeks and just been passed from one person to another. I have tried to show my disappointment on their reviews but they won't print it. Think it's a case of he'll get fed up and go away. How wrong they can be. The after sales of this company is none existent Steve

In all ranges they do it goes from entry level to the most experience level. They do have a lot of clothing and jackets, fleeces to enable to find the right item for your needs. They have a good range of bags as well all different sizes, again depending what you plan on using it for. They do a discount card which costs £4ish for a year to get a discount on all items varying from 10% upwards. They do have regular offers which have large discounts. Recently they have had a lot of regatta items which are cheap. The staff are great, they are friendly and know their stuff so are able to offer good advice and offer alternatives.

Originally called "Mitchells', 'Go Outdoors' is situated on the outskirts of Wakefield near to the National Mining Museum on the way to Huddersfield. The business and building was bought by Go Outdoors some 7 years ago and has thankfully improved vastly, with fresher product ranges and a fresher image although sadly trailer tents are no longer on display. A large outdoor grassed section enables tents to be demoed realistically, allowing the potential purchaser to just see exactly what a particular tent will feel like when they actually erect it and to see plain as day just what they will be getting for their money. From cheap festival tents to budget family tents that will sleep 5, to high performance technical tents for expedition and mountaineering use you will find a lot here. Inside there is a large range of clothing, hiking boots and equipment, rucksacks, sleeping bags etc etc as well as camp-craft products. There is everything you will ever need in here, from caravanning products to festival essentials. Big, reliable and 'designer' walking and tent brands are available at discount prices if you make a small investment in the form of a yearly-renewable membership card costing the princely sum of a whole english £4. It's worthwhile if you intend to buy a range of items in one go or intend to shop regularly here. There is also a 'Go Outdoors' own brand which is suited to those on a budget. I managed to grab an own-branded 'Gobi 4' 2 season tent in a sale which was an absolute bargain given its construction and features. The features of the tent would have been seen on a higher priced tent costing 4 times as much a few years ago such as blanket flooring, sealed seams and mud flaps. Although only a tent at the end of the day, it manages to make the camping experience just that little bit better. The quality of stitching and materials was superb and if you wait till the end of the season you can pick it up for 100 notes. I would definitely recommend this place as the own-branded -'Hi-gear' is pretty good value for the money. I've not had any problems when selecting some walking boots as the attendants did seem well-trained and knowledgable without ever being condescending or overtly 'selling.' I'd definitely recommend this place. It could benefit perhaps from a small cafe to allow people to discuss potential purchases and a bit more light towards the rear of the building, but then again this building has been here for over 40 years now.

They are completely incompetent and lazy. I ordered some jackets online for my family, in several sizes to try. Kept 4, returned 6. They processed the refund at three different prices - for the same jacket in different sizes. When I pointed out their error I just got a "we refunded this correctly" email. I'm now 12 emails in to this conversation and they're still doubling down. No attempt to explain why they're applied 3 different prices to the same jacket. No attempt to explain why the difference between my original payment and the refund is more than the cost of the 4 jackets I've kept. Just insulting "I've looked into this..." emails when they clearly haven't looked into it and can't be bothered. Lazy, rude and incompetent. It's terrible that their shop staff are being undermined by head office like this.

Last year, I purchased a Berghaus Gore-Tex jacket for £165, but had not had a chance to wear it. Recently I used it for a couple of days - and the main zip failed, the jacket is still brand new, and still has the labels in the pocket. The zip is clearly faulty. First I spoke to Berghaus's Customer Services Team who were very helpful and they asked me to return the jacket to the retailer; so they could either offer me a swap, or if not, send it back to Berghaus for the zip to be examined/repaired. Although I did not have the receipt, I expected at least a semi-helpful response from the store. But when I explained the problem - the manageress was very rude, abrupt and walked off; after stating that they would not do anything at all for me; as I could have bought the same jacket anywhere, such as in Millets (who recently closed their nearby store). She claimed that they keep no customer records such as postcodes. Rather than feeling like a valued customer; I felt accused of trying to scam them for a new jacket. £165 is a high ticket item and I expected the jacket to last several years. Too many empty high street stores! - Little wonder after this retail experience. Avoid them and go elsewhere. I am off to 'Go Outdoors' next time in Loughborough. (Speaking to Berghaus again now about returning the item direct to them)
