There you can go sailing, windsurfing and kayaking or have a days relaxing fishing. Day and season tickets are available for the lakes - there are two, a large and small. The small lake has less 'traffic' on it and is a quieter days fishing. There are hiring facilities for the water sports and you can pay for lessons. We've been a few time to use the caravan and camping site located on the side of the waters edge. The pitches aren't massive but it's not bad for a weekend.There are good washing and shower facilities for all who are camping. They have a small shop but it's not got loads in for the camper, I'd recommend bringing what you need. There is also a bar but I thought it was a bit expensive. For an afternoon it's a nice day out - there is a fairly good play area, space to kick a ball, a walk round the lake etc. I think it's only about £2 to get in. Outside the park, there is the town of Market Bosworth, Shackerstone Railway, Twycross Zoo and Bosworth Battlefield. Every year they host events such as the raft race or Hinckley half mararthon.

Now this badger has two lakes; the largest lake is available for pedalo rides and has sandy beaches; the smallest lake is in a more secluded area to attract wildlife. It's perfect if you want to do a Freddie Flintoff and fool around for a while. It's also ideal to see some great things of interest in this beautiful world we have around us. I'm going all John Lennon on you now. You've also got loads of grassed areas and picnics are no problem either (except the fact it's always freezing and wet in England). Then throw in the Play World bit. This is where I need to fall back and remind myself that I'm not a child any more. For "real" kids though it's got with a tower slide, climbing frames, a toddler's sandpit area and a miniature railway. Toot toot. Once again I've found you a corking day out with a difference but do check what is open if you go before the Easter holidays. You have been warned.

I left with the feeling that I had wasted fuel driving to Hemsworth as there are better parks much nearer to where I live.

Parents are allowed to go into the area with their kids which is always good, especially if you've got younger ones, and there's loads there to keep you all amused. Wi-fi internet is available, so take the laptop along and get on with your own stuff while the kids play. The food is really good. When they first opened I got a peek at the kitchen and it was more like something out a 5* hotel than a cafe. Most of the food is proper cooked stuff, and there's a fair choice on the menu at reasonable prices. Most of the staff are really friendly, many have childcare experience. It's run by two couples who both have families so they've taken an proper interest in making the best of the place that they can. It's close to the school so it does get very busy at around 3pm but if you're able to go in the morning then it's lovely - I'd highly recommend taking a trip through Brigg to call in here if you're passing on the M180.

This little park started out as just a butterfly park but over the years has extended its collection and now houses birds of prey, ponies, pigs, llamas and racoons (to name but a few). The tropical house is home to the butterflies (plus some reptiles and other insects). The volume and variety of butterflies is breathtaking and the tropical house is well set out so you get plenty of opportunity to see the butterflies without feeling you have walked round in circles. Outside in the park you can explore all the other animal exhibits and catch one of the daily falconry displays. There is a new children's adventure play area and if all of this tires you out and you need to recharge your batteries then there is a lovely restaurant/cafe which serves delicious homemade cakes and lunches. The Gift shop is well stocked and the staff are all very friendly. All in all a fantastic day out.

The active among you can also feel the deep burn with a game of tennis. Lesser assertion is needed for a cheeky spot of bowls and there is often some football going on. What it's also good for is bringing the community together with some annual events. The West Indian Carnival and Reggae Concert is a must. It's a vibrant mix of costumes, music and food and is great when the sun basks down and lights up a beautiful summer's day. If you feel like some greenery and open space then look no further.

I've driven past it so many times on the way to work it seemed only right to stop by and check it out. At the top end there are some really lovely shrubbery arrangements, which I realise isn't the thing most people are interested in, but I quite enjoyed sitting and eating a sandwich with all the greenery around me. Further down there is a play area for the younger kids, which certainly looks more exciting than the likes of parks from when I was a kid, and there are basket ball courts and a skate area for the older ones too. As an adult there is simply a large expanse of beautiful green parkland for an afternoon stroll/sunny picnic. All in all it's a lovely place to visit if the busy roads and city life is stressing you out.

Great for kids like me to play and paddle in. The stream is apparently Tennysons Babbling Brook. Walk along the stream path or climb and walk the top path above the trees. I fell down here age 13. I looked like Steven Boyd after the chariot race in Ben Hur..grabbed for a root to stop my slide and rolled to the bottom. It is VERY high and a long way down. Park in the farm field..full of wild rabbits. Have a tea or ice cream in the cafe. There is a brick built loo block. Many a happy day spent here.

After the delight that was…read moremany of my friends and colleagues creating or expanding their families (better) the seasons are changing and as we move out of Winter into Spring and hopefully balmier climates, talk has turned on where's a nice and safe place to take the kids that isn't pure saccharine wacky zany child fun, and is parent and friends of parent friendly, eg, friends of parents won't balk at the idea of spending time with the kidlets because it's "just too much fun(!)" Anyhoo, an excellent compromise or combination, of green, flowers, pretty, play areas, etc is Pudsey Park. My idea to take friends kidlets here stemmed from the glowing reports this park has. Prior job projects included something on open spaces in West Yorkshire, and Pudsey Park comes in top of the list with regards to awards and such. It's been a Green Flag award winner every year since 2003, a worthy acheivement. The park is always clean, and I've never had any trouble, plus in half term and Summer holidays, there's plenty of families about, which is nice for the kids to play about, without being too loud and annoying for anyone enjoying the park sans child. So what's to do here? If you enter the park at the Car Park side, you'll immediately notice the playground, and there's a basketball court, and a skate park. Wandering through there's a bowling green, flower gardens, a glass house filled with exotic plants and a pets corner and aquarium and aviary. For replenishments there's also a little cafe too. At the moment the park is undergoing some regeneration, so there are some major developments going on, and the structure and layout of the park is changing. But when it's all done and dusted it should be even better than ever.

Since I'm on a park ting (getting all street again, word up), I thought it'd be rude not to look this bad boy up. Now most of the parks have been reasonable to good it has to be said but this one is a perfectly formed package. It should shout about itself, it's a Greenflag winner and has been on many occasions. That's probably because it's very well maintained and has loads of stuff for the kids. Pet's corner is a nice touch and they keep on reconstructing areas left, right and centre so it's only going to get better. You've got exotic fish and birds and a tropical greenhouse. So get your best silly hat and cargo shorts out and go jungle trekking in your own back yard. There are plenty of flowers and tree lined walks. Plus, skate park, green bowls and a bandstand. Altogether with some air trumpet now.

Apparently decades ago it was a landfill that has now been turned into this large (33 hectares or 70+ acres) park with plenty of room to walk, enjoy nature (including some wetlands) and the views. We were on the way south. Always wanted to have a look at "Rosings Park" from Pride and Prejudice…read more1995. Because the Belton Estate was used as Rosings there. We didn't expect it to be that huge and with gardens and parks of this immense size! The parking lot already was massive, and quite full, but with spaces left in the very back. A nice walk along the trees brought us to the Belton House. Inside there are many rooms to explore, one I remembered even from the TV show, where Lady Catherine de Bourgh and the Bennets often met. Belton House was built between 1685 and 1687 by Sir John Brownlow. For about three centuries until 1984, Belton House was the seat of the Brownlow family. However, the financial difficulties were too great and in 1984 they donated the house, with most of its contents, to the National Trust. It's been used - as mentioned - as a filming location. But also civil weddings can be held here. The gardens and parkland are impressive and go as far as you can see. There's wildlife as well. A shop, café, food stalls. A big playground with games for the kids. There's just something for everybody. Be it to visit the house, to come and play, to have a picnic or just to have a nice walk on the grounds. The gardens in the back you shouldn't miss. Very pretty with a beautiful fountain at its centre. Really a wonderful visit. And dogs are welcome as well (except in the House of course).

Hours of adrenaline rushing family fun (for those aged ten and over) which takes aerial trekking to new extremes. Swing, climb and zip at 20ft and 40ft. High up in the trees there are over twenty different elements to conquer including a 3G swing. For the more adventurous there is an 80ft platform from which a fan descender jump can be made as well as a 1000ft zip wire. Both respectively thought to be the longest and highest in the country! Forget climbing walls - we also have tree climbing (with dry tooling for the very experienced) to heights of 65ft! Do this as an "extra" or as a group outing where teams may race each other over three way courses to the top. This year we also have Segways!
