Around the next bend is Shady's. Shady's is a standard convenience store/gas station. It's a little drab on the inside, but the people who work here are pretty awesome and that brightens it up. The a/c functions (I think), the beverage coolers are well stocked with every type of liquid refreshment, there are plenty of snacks, the gas pumps work, and the stray cats outside begging for food are really good at it. The day I stopped in, Shady's air conditioning wasn't working and the employee was sitting outside in the shade; but compared with the inside of my car, I could have been at the north pole. The cold water numbed my frustration, but then so did the friendly employee who apologized for the lack of air conditioning and then spent time commiserating. I don't know though, she only might have been pretending empathy once I started talking about the umbrella drinks in the middle of the highway.

"Well, we have some cooking , but it's already sold" WTH? I don't care when you come in there, they never have anything fixed and the employees are idiots. Go somewhere else.

This Exxon is directly across the street from the Factory Antique Mall…read more This is the Exxon that you'll go too if you're leaving the Antique Mall, but accidentally pass the 7-11 gas station on your way out and realize you can't turn around, and you realize if you just cross the street you can go to an Exxon, for the same price I'll add, before you hit 81 and head home. Nothing spectacular about this Exxon, but definitely nothing bad. For all intense and purposes my experience was good. Nothing out of the ordinary. It doesn't seem like they have a large shop in side... but Exxon doesn't do that. They just focus on the gas. And guess what... I'm just focused on the gas too. I have a feeling I'll be back to this Exxon. I'll definitely be back to the Antique Mall and if past is any predictor of the future, I'll definitely accidentally pass that 7-11 gas station again, if not leaving - because there is a Mcdonalds on the other side. At the Auto and RV plaza, the building has some of the cleanest and best maintained restrooms I've seen in Virginia. Seriously impressive and almost worth a stop just for that. There is also a Burger King and a rare Caribou Coffee. The shop has a bunch of gifts and local memorabilia for sale including tshirts, paintings, vases, local soaps, honey, perfumes and more. Really neat to see all of this stuff. The gas station is a distributor for Exxon products and it was super easy to get back onto the highway. This past weekend we were shocked to find a quarter machine on the public bathroom. Who carry's cash anymore? I went back out to my car to find a quarter to use the restroom and thought ok this must be pretty clean now. Oh no it had paper on the floor. Toilet was disgusting. If you're going to make people pay to use a public bathroom, then I would suggest making it cleaner. This will be our last visit there.
