Go Ape in Aberfoyle is AWESOME!!! The basic concept of Go Ape is that you are to complete a giant assault course which has been built high up the forest. There are tunnels, rope ladders, wobbly bridges and all sorts! The piece de resistance is of course, the two zip wires. Sorry, make that Britain's two longest zip wires! As expected you are given a safety briefing and all the necessary equipment before you are set loose! I went to Go Ape on a team building day with my work colleagues and at the time I found the safety briefing alarmingly, well, brief! The instructor explained the equipment to use and let us have a practice go on obstacles which were lower to the ground before we actually got to the 40ft high course itself. All in all this only took about half an hour. However once I was up there (waaaaaay up there, it is so high!) I realised that they had told us everything we needed to know and there were always staff on hand if we were struggling at any point. I would recommend you book your day at Go Ape in advance because the course can only hold so many people at once so there is no guarantee you'll get to go on it. Also it always helps to try and book in for a day when the weather is going to be decent! I found Go Ape to be sufficiently challenging. I am not particularly daring but I'm not a total wimp either and I found that the course gave me a good adrenaline rush but wasn't so terrifying that I couldn't complete it. The highlight of my Go Ape experience was watching my boss go down the flying fox screaming, "aaarrrrggghhhh my baaaalllls." Now that is what I call team building! read more
Funtastic! I have been dying to try Go Ape for approximately 7 years and finally went last week with some fellow tri club nutters (including one who was terrified of heights) and it did not disappoint. You are set up for the whole experience by starting with a long zip wire across the valley to spectacular views. There are then four sites of steadily increasing 'difficulty' from tight ropes to crawling through barrels to stirrups, all strung up in the trees (and of course harnessed and attached to a safety rope) and with a zip wire ending each site. I have cycled up Dukes pass and past the David Marshall lodge many a time and was really impressed that you can't see anything from the road so it doesn't marr the landscape. The crowning jewel for me was not the longest zip wire in Scotland (not the longest in Britain anymore!) which was your last aerial experience on the way back to the start (amazing as it was) but the big tarzan swing on site 5 - a definite leap of faith with a (relatively) huge drop before the safety rope catches you and launching myself off left me shaking for the next few minutes! Next time I'm going backwards.... read more

Tree-top, high-wire adventure assault course!!! Absolutely fantastic fun, really brilliant day out. Need moderate degree of general fitness and upper body strength is a big bonus. Oh, and a head for heights! Scrambling, climbing, zip-wires, flinging yourself into cargo-nets it's just ace. Booking almost always necessary. I would highly recommend gloves in winter! Even better, go when it's warm. There are 12 sites around the UK, apparently Dalby is even better - planning a visit soon. read more

Harness+treetop aerial assault course = GO APE! This is well worth the money for 2+ hours of fun. There are seperate sections all including a climb up ladders etc and a way down ie zip line etc! This is great fun for all ages, although there are height/age restrictions. The going is quite tough and dirty too. You are safe at all times. read more

Going to go ape is such a wonderful fun time for the more adventurous out there - I have been round about 4 times now and have enjoyed it each time. Scarry stuff and dangerous if you don't take care BUT if you do what they say then it is completely safe and there is no danger at all - it's just that if you forget a bit in the midst of your enjoyment it can of course be life threatening! You are really really high off the ground and the jumping off and doing the Tarzan swing is the best bit. Try to do all the high bridges etc all with no hands touching anything for the ultimate experience of balance and what feels like danger - but all in a controlled safe way. read more

For my friends birthday (Both F - late 30s) we decided to do something that didn't involve alcohol (well daytime anyway). So we booked for Go Ape, after a beautiful drive through gorgeous lakeland we arrived at Grizedale Forest. As part of a group of about 12, we were given a quick demo and training on how to attach/detach the karribiners from the ropes etc. Our first 'training' section was a quick climb up a ladder then a zip wire down to a soft landing. We went first in our group, the Zip wire was great - the instructor said just carry on, so we did. Tree after tree of adrnaline rushes. We were fins on the ropes between trees - as long as you don't look down. The first tarzan swing was a leap of faith and the promise of a nice galss of red afterwards for my friend. We were buzzing. Luckily we had gone early in the day and there was only a small amount of queueing for each section. We found it wasnt to scary to really frighten yourself but just enough to get the blood rushing. I loved the last tarzan net, I could have done it all day long. Definitely A Great Couple of Hours - would advise to go first session of the day. Brilliant. read more
