The Loch itself is fairly small, taking only 15-20 mins to walk around. There is lots of nature and wildlife to explore here from toadstools to frogs to wild raspberries to dragonflies... We met a particularly large, and bold, swan today whilst feeding the ducks! On our last visit we stumbled across hundreds and hundreds of baby frogs migrating across the pathway to the Loch. This has become a regular location for us to visit with our little Julia Donaldson fan. There is a play park at the far end of the Loch from the little car park off Kilmardinny Avenue and if you need something to eat or liquid refreshments after your walk there is a recently opened Waitrose with a lovely cafe minutes away by car or foot!

We really enjoyed walking round the loch in the sunshine, the path is pretty easy going for littles and the pram alike, and there are a few places to stop along the way and see the ducks or discover the awesome carvings. We couldn't find the play park, perhaps a little sign would help, but we asked someone and soon found the little path leading up to it. There were some different play areas to explore including an awesome rope swing that the adults enjoyed too! We had a great, free day out and it worked well to tire out the kids. Would highly recommend.

A perfect park to take kids to! Not only is the circular…read morelandscaping of the park user-friendly but also very pleasing to the eye. There's two circles to it - an inner and an outer. The outer is a hilly grass area with benches, and the inner is a well-equipped and fenced in large kids playground - such a set-up is perfect for adults to sit back and watch the kids whilst allowing them the independence to run around freely. And because of the fencing, the worry of them running off too far is eliminated. Another bonus is that it's never as busy as the Kelvingrove or Botanics. The grassy area is also perfect to let dogs have a nice sniff around - though probably only suitable for smaller dogs. All in all, it's a perfect escape from the city buzz on Byres Road, and a great way to entertain the wee-uns.

Since the old pavilion was converted into a nursery there's always a lot of child activity in the park, so consequently it is very popular with parents who have small children. It's a bit too close to Highburgh Road to be very peaceful, but it's a nice place to sit and get some sun in the summer months.

There's a number of woodland walks, a few trails take you down to Erskine beach, where the old Erskine Ferry used to cross. There's lots of picnic areas and seats to rest at. The walk has circular paths or you can walk around the edge. There's a network of about 2 miles (3km) trails, all ideal for easy walking and cycling. The paths are wide and smooth, so great for buggies too but be prepared for a few short moderate slopes.

The Saltings are a nature reserve located under the Erskine Bridge. They shoulder the Kilpatrick…read morehills on one side and look across to Marr Hall and Erskine on the other. The views down to Dumbarton Rock are spectacular. This area was developed from the flood planes of the River Clyde. You can walk a few routes around the area and can connect onto the cycle path along the Forth Canal. From the Saltings you can walk down to the Bowling basin and further down to Dumbarton. Well known for it's many species of birds but also deer have been known to frequent this area. Popular for dog walkers, cyclists and walkers alike. There are some seats scattered around the area however there aren't any picnic benches, which is a shame.

Glasgow has a number of really nice parks, and this one is probably not the most famous. But if you…read morewant a change from the city centre parks, this is a very nice choice for a weekend walk. It could seem difficult to get there, but you can either come from Maryhill Road (bus 18 and 61 from city centre or by train), or if you want to make a real good walk, you can start from Botanic Gardens at top of Byres Road and then follow up the river Kelvin walkway. Once you're in the park, you'll enjoy a peaceful day out in the grenery, passing by a beautiful little stone bridge over the Kelvin, and if the weather's clear enough, there are some nice viewpoints of the hills of Mugdock and Strathblane. Moreover, the park is quite lively as it is the home of the University of Glasgow vet school. I'll be really happy to go back in the spring!

They would take me to the park on my visits from Helensburgh. The boating pond is still full of Swans but alas time has been called on the boats themselves no more will you hear the cry come in number six your time is done. The Oswald clock has been newly restored and looks better than ever. Let's hope they remember to wind it up every day. To the north of the flower beds the infamous "still game" bench can be found with a spectacular vista. Let's not forget the overgrown garden next to Fossil Grove which in itself is a wonder of the world which remains one of Glasgow's best kept secrets.

The woods have many different kinds of old large trees, wild flowers and large thickets of berries. As you walk along the paths you feel like you are in a hallway of singing birds. I'm sure there are various wildlife that lurk in here too. Lovely carvings in trees must be from a local carver or a community project. If you are looking for a weekend place for a stroll or a unique place to walk the dog around Glasgow, Cairnhill Woods is a good choice.

Several paved paths within the park are good for scooters and kids' bikes. It's pretty quiet here. It has never been crowded when we've played here. The playground has baby swings, a tire swing, slide, merry-go-round, see-saw, and large climbing pyramid all set on a recycled rubber (soft) surface. There are also benches inside the playground area. The hedges shield the park from the busy road below and the other 3 sides are surrounded by tenement buildings. It always feels very peaceful here!

In fact, rumours have it anyone who has ever taking sip from a bottle of Buckfast, even as part of an ironic student jape, is barred.
