The Veggie Wagon has all of the things your…read morebougie-slash-hippie heart desires: local beer and kombucha on tap, free-range eggs, a coffee bar with bulletproof coffee, freshly ground nut butters, bottles of organic wine, hydroponic butter lettuce, etcetera. It has many if not all of the things you're looking for. During the summer, they even have DIY ice cream sandwiches! Who doesn't want to make and customize their own ice cream sandwich? No one, that's who. There were so many things I wanted to buy when I visited, but I just ended up with a to-go cup of bulletproof coffee, which is basically coffee with butter in it. I don't follow keto eating practices at all, but I do like a good cup of bulletproof coffee, because when it's made right, it's smooth and butterscotchy and delightful. The bulletproof coffee at The Veggie Wagon was all of those adjectives! There's a little produce stand outside of the store, which is quite cute and quaint. When you go inside, you'll see even more locally grown produce items. We were around for tomato and berry season, so that's what was available. There's lots of parking here on the side of the building, and picnic tables out front in case you want to stay a while and enjoy your goodies on site.

I was standing in line with my dog that has been coming there with me for his regular pup cup. A young lady came up and let me know dogs were not allowed. I explained we've been coming here for years. Do you want us to leave? She said yes, we prepare food here (reprimanding me in front of all the customers)and I could tie my dog outside. I don't tie my family members outside. So we just left. I decided to go to the "old sea merchant", which is an amazing! They prepare far more food, desserts, coffee, smoothies, welcomed to my dog with open arms, and even gave the poor guy a treat! They also have working air conditioning, unlike where we were just asked to leave. My family and I will now be fully taking our business to... The Carolina Beach deli market!

There is also going to be a wine bottle shop inside called Bottles that will open soon. Homegrown sells local products and focuses on sustainability. There wasn't too much variety of produce when I was there. The produce prices are at least twice as much as grocery store prices but they are higher quality/locally grown. There are also "bulk" organic dried herbs and spices, flours, rice, beans and grains, including chickpea flour, sprouted whole grain flour, cacao powder, chia seeds, pink Himalayan salt, baking soda, arrowroot. These are not bulk bins, more of around 32 oz glass sized containers. I imagine if you only need a tablespoon or so of the spice or a cup of beans, this would work out for you. You can bring your own container or they have a glass containers available. Other products are local Taste the Olive olive oil, elderberry syrup, vanilla extract, honey, Kind Cultures, eggs, meats, sweets. For skincare there is bulk deodorant, tooth powder, and tea. Reverse osmosis water is available for $0.40 per gallon or free for single serving refills. This would be good market for those that live close by looking for organic, local, and sustainable products.

Homegrown Market itself is a "grocery store and market featuring local producers with an eye on sustainability and good health." They did have some great items inside and had items that you could bring in your own container to fill up with whatever the item was you were needing. Their produce was limited, but what they had looked fresh and delicious. They also sold many of the products from vendors that I see at the local farmers market at Poplar Grove. It is not necessarily something that I would go out of my way to stop at, however, if I was in the area, I would go back and check it out.
