You have three people in line and you're texting. You wonder why this store has poor reviews...
Joshua K.

So if my picture a few months back wasn't enough, they tried it outdo themselves today... I come up to the door about 10 minutes ago and it's locked but there are people in there. I first thought, "maybe he's getting robbed". I checked the window, nope. There are two customers. The guy motions to me to hold on. Minute or so passes and the one customer leaving let's me in. The guy at the counter apologized and says, "my manager is late and I have another job to get to so I locked the door hoping to not get any more customers." Bruh... I understand that situation being in retail at a point in my life and knowing the struggles but come on man, that's bad business.

Does anyone work at this store? Just went and they had the door locked with a "be back in 5 min" sign up for 30 mins.

On a recent trip to Philly I stopped in Mom's Organic Market to stock up on groceries for my home…read morestay where I could cook. I am currently living in San Francisco so San Franciscans in Philly can think of Mom's Organic Market akin to Rainbow Grocery in SF. Mom's has a great variety of local and organic produce. Hard to find items that you would find in a good well stocked natural food store or cooperative like Mom's is. Staff is friendly. The layout of the store is a labyrinth that can be confusing like a rubik's cube too far gone yet with a little patience and perhaps asking security, staff, or one of the regulars they can help you get your learning curve to navigate the store of organic natural food product heaven. Within Mom's is the Naked Lunch vegan restaurant which I will return to have a bite there as it looks interesting. I am a proud graduate of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics at Naropa University in Boulder, CO where I received the William S. Burroughs scholarship. I did my thesis on William S. Burroughs and William S. Burroughs wrote Naked Lunch aka the cut up novel for which this restaurant is named. Since I was in Philly two weeks I was mixing up dining out at the wonderful vegan foodie scene in Philly along with cooking at my homestay. For cooking at my homestay at Mom's I picked up the following: Soymilk Local and organic blueberries Bananas Garnet jewel sweet potatoes Limes Avocados Organic granny smith apples Red cabbage Ginger root Sweet yellow onion I am pretty sure all the produce was organic. Mom's has been family owned and operated since 1987. Great bulk bin items. Great produce. In a word, great. Mom's sets the bar high for a natural food store. They are like the special forces of natural food stores which is quite alright in my book. Each day Mom's states customers prevent 9,233 grocery bags from being used. Mom's has banned over 250 ingredients from our products storewide. Mom's has chosen to print their receipts on BPA and BPS free paper products for the safety of it's community and the environment. In a word...Yes!

My review for MOM's will be aimed towards the Pinball machines they offer versus the market…read moreportion, which is smaller than you'd expect. MOM's has plenty of parking and shares the building with a Family Dollar. To find the pinball machines, which have their own area, head towards to the checkouts on the left. During my visit, they had over a dozen pinball machines from various eras, and all were in excellent playing condition. Machines were only 50 cents per play with a change machine provided. I found the two most interesting machines to be Riverboat Gambler and Taxi, which I am not sure I've seen before. There were also several arcade cabinets. If you like playing reasonably priced pinball machines in excellent condition, MOM's is absolutely worth the stop.

A bit disappointed on my second trip here…read more Three of the pinball machines took our money and there was no metal ball to play in the machine! The games were Houdini, Riverboat Gambler, and I forget the third one. One of the games the ball got struck and I had to wiggle the ball to get it free however the machine registered it as a tilt and went dark and shut down as a result. I guess in any arcade you will have some broken machines, but they literally ask the participant playing the game to scan a QR code on their phone to alert them of any broken machines. For those of you that are not in the know, you are never supposed to scan random QR codes as people can hack into your phones. Yes, you probably won't be hacked as the QR code is inside the pinball glass but WTF. On another sour note, I was totally out of coffee at my home and was going to grind some coffee beans as all their coffees need to be grind due to them not offering any already ground coffee. Welp, after seeing the unkempt machine with guck on it I chose to leave empty handed. Now for the good, I did not notice the first time I was here, but they even have already poured water for you in a plastic cup that you can help yourself too. This is in addition to free coffee and tea you can have while here. I haven't given up on this place just a bit disappointed on my second trip.

The best way to maintain/improve your health is to live a quality lifestyle, see your doctor…read moreregularly and be educated about how to maintain your wellbeing on a daily basis through diet, exercise and appropriate nutritional supplements that can assist you in small ways often overlooked by allopathic physicians. Holly Hill Health is a 30+ year retail space in the Montgomery Commons Mall. It is one of the largest outlets for health foods, vitamins and esoteric capsules of natural minerals, oils and topical creams in the region. In addition to all those bottles on shelves, its staff is extremely knowledgeable on the proper use, dosage and alternatives that must be considered when assisting in personal health while also taking instruction from a personal physician. Their nutritionists and holistic specialists know the right questions to be asked, listen closely to your answers, and walk you to the section of the store where they show you what to consider. In my situation, I was looking for a few things for the family; lecithin for hair strengthening, Vitamin C, D3 and K-2 for enhanced immunity and cardiovascular health. My guide volunteer showed me the available choices, suggested what to avoid based on the prescription drugs taken, and made sure I selected the right dosages (sometimes less is more). Holly Hill has many private label options where discounted price is most apparent. I bought some of them, but appreciated when a different brand was recommended for its improved beneficial therapeutic impact. Supplements are not cheap these days, and their popularity is growing. There was a touch of sticker shock when a handful of small bottles ran a tab over the century mark. But, it is what it is. Still, they are now a part of my health regime and my budget, and will remain so until a better solution to health maintenance comes along.

I still have the defective product and will return it for exchange. ************************************************************* After purchasing Peppermint oil for the first time and loving the product, we purchased a second bottle. Something was wrong with the batch....my husband used it as usual, came to bed, and I immediately smelled a foul odor. We checked it again over a couple of days and took it back to the store. The sales person said she only smelled peppermint(??!!). We then, in front of the sales person, opened another bottle that had the same odor. The explanation was that they make different batches. We had certainly hoped it would at least be investigated in case a bacteria had gotten into that batch. We were offered a credit but not a refund. We have found a wonderful product online and will not be ordering from Holly Hill again. My advice: check your product before you leave the store. The store that "cares about you" didn't quite care enough to refund our money.

The Owners name is Galena. Very knowledgeable person on holistic medicine. Other reviews describe…read moreher as rude, this is very far from the truth. This is a small store with a large selection of products and the owner is very informative with every item. Yes the prices are some what over price if you don't take in consideration the free knowledge that she include with the products. If you know exactly what you looking for and you don't mind waiting for it in the mail then thats the way to go. I will continue to patronize her because I want her to remain in business. Also keep in mind she is also a small business and not being her supplies in bulks like most box stores. Keep in mind the owner is over 80 years old, she looks great for her age and is due to her knowledge. If she's waiting on a customer and you call her on the phone, she will tell you Im busy and hang up the phone and continue to provide her customer her undivine attention. It does come across as rude, but please don't judge base on that. Once you get her attention she won't stare you wrong. If she's waiting on some one be prepare to wait, when your turn arrives she will educate you on what ever you need or purchase. She also aware of some of the prices and she will offer you alternative vitamins or product not to hurt your packets. I've been her customer for over 4 years know, and Im very please with her help and knowledge. My over all experience is A+.
