You gotta come to fresh market on Thursdays for the $5 bistro meals!!! (Beware they do sell out of…read moresome items.) They also have a hot plate meal where you can get a rotisserie chicken, two sides, and 6 rolls - feed 4-6 people. (Perfect amount for 3 people sized family in my opinion.). Depends on the portion sizes your family eats. Either way, great last minute meal ideas after a long day of work. Or for your lunch break! The workers are all really polite here, but the checkout line is not fast so make sure to get a basket or cart to make waiting in line easier. It is always clean in here, and they always have lots of fresh produce. Plus a convenient parking lot.

The staff, especially at checkout, always seem to be friendly and upbeat, which is nice. The pre-prepared foods, snacks, drink choices, bakery and deli are typically better than most, sometimes better than the larger Whole Foods on Magazine St. here. And, they have an amazing floral section at the back entrance. There's a convenient parking lot that wraps around the back and downtown side of the building, but the spaces can be tight, especially with a SUV size vehicle. This time I grabbed some coffee, bread, brownies, and wine. Unfortunately, I found many of the aisles and sections not stocked very well. The bakery section had very little product as did several other places. Just empty bins and shelves. Hmmmm? It is the beginning of Mardi Gras season so plenty of King Cake and specialty vodka. Nonetheless, I do like this store. Fun fact- this used to be the Bultman Funeral Home, in a classic building on the corner of St. Charles and Louisiana Streets. Yes, indeed, a mortuary as well.

One that's owned by the evil Amazon…read moreempire at that, but it is what it is and here I am, updating my review for this Whole Foods over 13 years after my first one. I appreciate the wine and delicacies (née cheese) section as well as the fridge section here to Mid-City. I much prefer the parking in Mid-City to Uptown and that's a big deal, as in, even if I'm in the area and need to stop at WF for produce, oat milk, wine and nostalgia, I'll more often than not talk myself out of it because I hate that parking garage that much. The last time I stopped in, I had taralli on the brain and knew that I wouldn't likely find that at most Rouses, no less the far more conveniently-located food co-op that's in my neighborhood. And of course I found a decent variety, as well as a bunch of other goodies my regular Mid-City location does not have. Back to the parking lot. It's bad enough, people. At the very least, bring your cart back inside so that the next person doesn't have to move it before parking, which blocks the entire area and annoys the other cars waiting to park. You know this happens. Don't be that person.

This Whole Foods has a very unique location and this reused space does give it some nice unique qualities. This location used to be far better than the Metairie location in many ways but it seems the location in Metairie has started to surpass this location in many ways. They still have a good mix of local, organic, and non-GMO produce. They also offer lots of high carb and high sugar baked goods that most "vegetarians" and "vegans" seem to thrive on. Sadly the formerly excellent selection of cookies no longer exists and they now pale in comparison to what they used to offer. I do look forward to one day meeting a "real" vegetarian or vegan that actually eats veggies instead of most of the ones I know who basically live off desserts and muffins :) Parking is usually a painful experience here and it is DEFINITELY better to go in off hours as people act crazy about parking here. After Katrina I lived next to the Whole Foods flagship location in Austin so this is certainly a much less dynamic store but it usually serves its purpose. Ever since Amazon took over Whole Foods it simply just isn't as good as it used to be in many ways but you are able to get more deals, discounts and coupons. This is still the most unique Whole Foods I've seen anywhere but I miss the vibe it had before Katrina and Amazon. One last review of ONE Star for all the LAZY people that leave their carts strewn all over the place in the parking lot! If your going to eat healthy maybe take a few extra seconds of exercise to put your cart back and OUT of my way you rude, pathetic excuses for civilized creatures. It is the utmost in poor manners and you are probably the same douche bags that zoom in and cut people off to steal the parking space that someone else was patiently waiting for.

It's conveniently located for me, as in walking distance, and you can't beat that for picking up essentials. Anything to save myself a car ride! While their selection isn't always robust as far as produce goes, they have far more locally- grown items than Whole Foods. I think they strive to offer as much local as possible, whereas these days WF does not, so kudos to them for that. I don't want my tomatoes from Mexico if they are in season here. That said, you may not find everything you're looking for as the selection varies, but I can always count on finding an organic baked potato and I'm not going to find that at Robert's, the neighborhood supermarket. I used to think pricing was super high here, but I no longer feel that way. In fact, they are often cheaper than Robert's, as it seems like they are just pricing for tourists looking to stock their vacation rentals. They have a good selection of vegan items, even locally-made cheeses and meats, in addition to the commercial brands. And if you hit it at the right time, there's locally-made vegan baked goods, too. They have a modest wine and beer selection but still convenient if you need it. I think the neighborhood should support the Food Co-op. When it first opened, there was all this strange begrudgement around it, "we wanted a real supermarket," but when that so-called "real" supermarket opened it was a bit of an eye-opener for most of us ($7 for OJ five years ago was unheard of, but of course most of us wouldn't bat an eye in this economy).
