But Nick and his store are very charming, Nick and his assistants know everything about cheese, and they have a phenomenal variety from France as well as exotics from places like Norway and Ireland. The Käseladen am Merianplatz does have a best-in-town, though. Their Quiches, whether Lorraine or vegetarian, are fantastic: filled to the brim with gooey, aromatic, high-quality cheese. They make a fresh batch every day, and I can't remember where you'd ever get better ones.

I searched online and through Yelp for a place to get some good cheese and after Gastrovino in Amsterdam, I will admit my standard was set pretty high. The ladies at Die Fromagerie exceeded expectations. For those visiting Germany, the lady that helped me was fluent in English and was ready to recommend both a white and red wine pairing for the warm La Raclette Baguette Sandwich I ordered - I chose the white sauvignon blanc, as I want to drink red for tonight. The bread was deliciously warm and crisp on the outside with just enough give and soft dough inside, slathered with a nice mustard that brought out the flavors of the cheese really well without overpowering it. She was also able to help me order a small charcuterie box for one person to take home for the low price of €15,50! Recommend calling to order these as they are pretty busy - she asked me to put my order in and come back later to pick it up. I decided to sit inside where they have a trendy area with paintings, cushioned chairs, and warm blankets for their guests. I chose the seat closest to the window for the view of the cars passing by - I love to people watch and this was a great place to do it!

The cheese selections were vast, and the staff was so helpful and knowledgeable. I also like how they try and only go with the smaller farmers and vendors for their products. Store front is easy to miss but worth the visit!
The goat cheeses selection is super impressive and well worth a try!

Since it is a deli the food is displayed so you can just point at what you want. You can also choose the amount, this is good for experimentation. Along with being traditional, the food is decently priced. It's also centrally located near the historical city hall. There is outdoor seating on picnic tables, but you can take it to go. My boyfriend had fleischkäse which I can only describe as a slice of bologna -loaf. It is served warm and I hear sometimes with an egg. He had it with fried potatoes. I had a Kalbsfrickadellen. It was a well seasoned fried meatball. It was appetizing and sastisfieng. Not too strange. The potato salad was on the the sweet side. Both dishes were served with a dollop of mustard.

On our last day in Frankfurt, we had a little time to kill before happy hour at our hotel…read more Kleinmarkthalle, the largest food market in Frankfurt, was a short walk away. It's a little tough to tell where the entrance is, but we eventually figured it out. Once you walk into this indoor food market, you'll see a whole host of vendors selling pretty much everything under the sun. You'll see produce (fruits and vegetables), nuts, sweets, and much more. You'll also find hot food including German sausage, pizza, and more. If you come hungry, you're not going to be able to resist having some food and buying more than you should while you're there. It's kind of like going to a grocery store hungry. The food hall is on two levels. You'll find friendly vendors. Some offer free samples. I only bought a German sausage and some bread from two lovely German grandmothers. They were smiling, asked me questions about myself, and were a joy. What a cute pair! And the sausage was quite tasty (they have five or so for you to choose from). The prices seem reasonable across the board, even though I didn't buy much.

Klein Markt Halle is a large pre-war building which is packed to the brim with food vendors and visitors. It's more touristy than I would like and a bit more crowded as well. There is a decent selection of small cafes along with walk up style vendors and prices are a bit high - but it is touristy. There's not enough communal places to sit and eat so unless the weather is nice outside you might have a challenge finding a spot.
