It's my first time coming here and I'm blown away. Truly a magical experience. LOCATION: Glowfari is a holiday event that takes place after hours at the Oakland Zoo. TIME: You select your entry time between 4:30 - 6:30. The event ends at 9:00pm. Once you're in, you can stay as long as you like. We got 4:30 tickets, and it was pretty spacious, but around 6:00, the place got quite crowded. RIDES: The gondola runs throughout the evening. It's all lit up once the sun goes down. Highly recommend. DISPLAYS: The displays are incredible. Each year there is a theme, and for 2025, the theme was Oakland. It was amazing to see Oakland all lit up, including a replica BART train. Walking through the upper and lower levels of the zoo, you'll see life-size replicas of glowing animals. Many of the displays move. It's amazing how much detail went into each display. PLAY: There's a play area for kids too. Glowing swings, see saws, and squares that light up when you walk on them. There's also a house of mirrors. FOOD: There's 2 restaurants. We went to the Landing Cafe, which is larger and has seating inside and outside. Ordering online via their QR Code was efficient and quick. The food was decent for zoo food. There are burgers, salads, sandwiches, and desserts. Throughout the zoo, there are snack stands with hot chocolate, popcorn, and even beer. PARKING: Free (well, with ticket)

GloFari at the Oakland Zoo has truly become a Bay Area staple for our family. We've been going since the Zoo Lights days, and it's been amazing to see how it's evolved into what GloFari is now. It honestly gets better every year. My kid is a teenager now and still looks forward to it, which says a lot. It's officially a family tradition at this point. This year felt extra special with all the Oakland touches woven throughout the displays. Seeing local icons like the Fox Theater, BART and other staples represented in lights was such a cool and thoughtful addition. It really felt like a celebration of the city. We loved it and will definitely keep the tradition going.

Wow! Amazing glowfari indeed! It's so fun to take the kids here. They love to run around and explore the activities as well. Taking the gondola up, opens a whole other area to peruse through. It's an outing surely. A unique experience and it is definitely worthwhile. It's cold and it may be rainy season so prepare to dress warm and bring an umbrella. The proceeds are going to a great cause for the zoo and animals. The spirit of kids roaming around with glowing lights, makes it a merry time to be here!

Glowfari is outstanding! Its only downside is that it's too popular. It's difficult to get tickets. You have to be organized. Set that alarm. You have to be ready to purchase tickets a month in advance. They use dynamic pricing, so you'll pay more for weekend tickets. If plans change, too bad. You're out of luck. This inflexibility has made me hesitant to buy tickets. We are zoo members, but I've always been too apprehensive to commit to buying tickets a month in advance to an entirely outdoor event in the winter with small children. It's just too risky. There's a good chance someone in our household might end up sick that day, or the weather will be too cold and damp to be enjoyable. Thankfully, we were lucky enough to be gifted tickets to this event from a family that couldn't attend at the last minute (due to said reasons that I get nervous about). We were so grateful that we got to experience it on a chilly, but not freezing evening. You can see the lanterns during a daytime visit to the zoo. They are outstanding even in the daytime! You can see the scale of these lanterns and just how many of them there are! I mean, they cover most of the zoo! You won't see any animals though, or at least I didn't. I think they are in their indoor habitats. I love that the exhibit changes every year. The 2025-26 Glowfari featured an Oakland exhibit that included my 1 year old daughter's favorite lantern -- a "choo choo" train! It was a BART lantern that you can actually go inside. My son was a huge fan of the interactive game at the top (there were more of these last year), and also the light up swings, see saws and floor tiles. That's the perfect end to the night if you have kids because once they see that section, they'll have a hard time leaving. Your best bet is to start up the gondola and then make your way down, ending at the interactive zone. We didn't make it to the train unfortunately which has its own light up section that can only be seen from the train. We missed that last year as well, unfortunately. There's actually a lot to do and see, especially if you have small kids. Arrive early if you can. The event also features Santa on select days as well. Overall, this is a fantastic event that is really enjoyable for a wide range of ages. I just wish there were some tickets available for purchase day of, or walk-up. I know they don't need to because of its insane popularity, but it would be nice for those with a fear of commitment! haha

I came many years ago, around 2018-2019. I was underwhelmed back then. My friend then invited me for this year's event 2025-2026, and OMG it has improved a lot! The lights were so beautiful. Back then the lights honestly felt like lazy front yard effort--skinny fairy lights, minimal planning, but now they've got lantern lights and the art truly glows! It truly feels like you've been transported somewhere magical. There was a lot to see, and we left happy with everything we've seen. My friend said we had an Iconic Oakland night, coming here and having dinner at Fentons. It really was Oakland iconic: lights depicting the Fox Theater, Bart train (yes you can go inside), Children's Fairyland shoe house, and even raccoons in the dumpster on display lol. Some displays moved, too! I loved the florals. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is that despite not raining for the past few days the ground was still pretty muddy in some areas. I'm glad I wasn't wearing new shoes. Lots of families, which is great but my friend's kid got run into/had near misses because some families weren't supervising their kids. It looks like there's a new theme each year. My friend says last year there was a pyramid theme. My first impression of Glowfari wasn't good, but now that I've seen it's improved so much I'm all aboard and looking forward to what's to come next winter season.

One of my favorite holiday traditions! Glowfari is such a unique and fun event. I recommend getting 4:30PM tickets to enjoy the most of the event. Every year is different themes and keeps it exciting to visit every year. We get there right at opening and head straight for the gondola to see the top exhibits first. The line for the gondola can get long later in the evening so we find this the best use of time. If you have little kids packing snacks and dinner is definitely recommend. They have food and drinks (including wine and beer) available to purchase too. A stroller is highly recommended for little kids. Lots of hills and walking.

So cool! This is our second year visiting, and they did not disappoint. I love how they change up their theme yearly. Very family friendly. Plus their food at their food court is good! Glofari does get busy and does sell out so buy your tickets in advanced. Btw Santa was there this year! Great place to get your photo op in!

This has become a must do. We highly recommend bundling up and going to Glowfari! Make a reservation in November so you get a spot. It's so fun! Fun to ride the train & Gondala, as well. I suggest booking just after sunset, so it's not too chilly out. It really is a magical experience

Ah- what a beautiful event! It's super pretty! So many different sections to explore- definitely take the lift up to view the Oakland city pieces with a BART train and some swings! It can get pretty cold so layer up and bring those gloves/beanies! They also have spiked hot chocolate which you can order from the app instead of waiting in line~ Everyone was super nice and helpful. Expect a line for the lift~

Always such a good time! We've been coming to Zoo Lights aka GlowFari for the past several years now. It's always such a fun experience, especially for the little ones. Definitely make sure to buy your tickets in advance. If you can get into an earlier session by all means do so. It gets busy and packed quickly. Last year we parked right up front. This year we arrived at 6p and were all the way at the end of overflow parking. I'd hit the Gondola right away as the lines can get crazy. Also note; the lines split off on bottom and at the top. There is a separate line for people with strollers, so don't wait in a longer line if you don't have to. Better yet, bring a compact collapsible stroller if you can, then you'll get on quickest in the non stroller line. If you need an electric assistance trike, those are available for rent. As are strollers. There are small snack shacks open throughout the park. You can get pretzels, churros, Dip N Dots and various drinks. I enjoyed my adult hot chocolate which includes a little Baileys. Be prepared for your shoes to be MUDDY if you go to the lower section. It's a lot of fun, especially for the kids. They have a bunch of traction mats. But the mud oozes through and they're also some puddles. So maybe even bring a change of shoes and clothes for the kids lol Be prepared to have some fun. Dress for the weather. Have a hooded jacked or hat, as it can get chilly and wet. But mostly just be in the moment and enjoy your time. The kids will love it and so will you.

Been taking the little ones for the last three years. It's starting to feel like a wintry holiday tradition now. Each year, a new theme for this festival. The set up was impressive with awesome life sized displays and cool lighting. Lots of fun activities for the kiddos to enjoy... like the smoke bubble machines, the color changing oval swings, lit up stepping tiles, and the newly added teeter-totter to name a few. There was also the maze-like house of mirrors that was pretty fun for the kids. The landing cafe was ready for the crowd! Right as soon as we placed our food order from the kiosk, our food was ready to be picked up! That was an unexpected surprise as normally it would be a bit of a wait. The entry time to the event are staggered. But once you're in, you can stay as long or as little as you'd like. Our visit was approximately about 3 hours as we took some time to dine and leisurely walked around to enjoy the beautiful illumination. It was a fun family friendly event.

We first visited in 2021 and loved it -- but our 2025 visit was even better! The displays were brighter, the overall organization was excellent, and there were plenty of food and snack options. With all the lights and festive setup, we managed to experience almost everything in about 2.5 hours, except for the train ride, which closed early due to unexpectedly long lines -- a bit of a bummer! The carousel and car ride were still lots of fun, and we even got a picture with Santa (the longest wait was maybe 10 minutes!). Parking is still a challenge, but honestly, it's better managed than many other places we've been.

This is the backdrop for pictures with Santa Claus.

While I arrived on time for my reservation, they weren't too strict about timing. Make sure to download your tickets beforehand, as cell service was practically nonexistent. There was a grill station and several snack stands in the main area, along with a restaurant overlooking the city on the California Trail. Most options were standard American fare with nearly $20 price tags. The tropical rainforest primates were my favorite, as they had the most interactive layout. They swung across ropes and lounged in their hammocks. The reptile room was easy to miss but ended up being one of my favorite sections, as the creatures were surprisingly plump and active. Unfortunately, the animals along the California Trail were more elusive and the exhibits were spaced farther apart. The gray wolves were barely visible, while the larger cats were kept at a noticeable distance from visitors. Some pathways led to dead ends and could have been labeled better. The gondola was required to reach the California Trail and became a bottleneck throughout the day, especially around lunch when the restaurant drew more visitors and again near closing. There were also separate lines for strollers and everyone else. It might be a highlight for those who have never ridden a gondola, but personally, it felt more like an unnecessary delay. For the nearly $30 price tag, I found the Oakland Zoo well maintained and interesting enough to visit. I finished everything in about 2.5 hours, although I would add another 30 minutes for the gondola wait alone. Definitely arrive at opening and tour the California Trail before lunch to avoid the biggest crowds.

In ALL the times we have ever visited we have never been denied a quick 1 second stamp on our boys' hands. I understand the zoo was closing but when a 2 year old asks for a stamp for your rude non employee to respond "NO" is TERRIBLE. My son was absolutely devastated. It takes one second to make a good impression and memory and ONE SECOND to create a terrible experience which these 2 girls did. How they can feel good about denying a 2 year old a hand stamp for fun and make him cry is disgusting. Then as we walked away with 2 sad little boys I felt the mama bear in me needing to stand up for what's morally right so I walked back to ask to speak with a supervisor only to find these 2 girls talking about us. I ask them for their names and one girl gave her name, Marin. The other replied rudely that she doesn't work there. Why would someone who doesn't work there treat my son and nephew so rudely and even respond to us as if she was an employee? She 100% responded when my son asked for a stamp. So I asked to speak to a supervisor and Itzhiry came out and said that it's common that they will deny children stamps "sometimes" and that it depends. I wonder what it depends on? What exactly did they have against my son and nephew? We always leave at closing and NEVER have they ever been denied a stamp. It literally takes one second. Then I asked Itzhiry if she thinks it's okay that a friend of an employee poses and responds as an employee to which her exact words were "Sometimes it does happen." I repeated that and she again said that yes sometimes it does happen because they wait with their friend because maybe they're their ride. That is completely unprofessional and weird to be honest. To let a non employee be mean to children who are visiting. Not acceptable and gross behavior.

So let's preface this with, my daughter corresponds with her "very own fairy" (aka. me--a very involved parent who also celebrates her half birthday, commits to elaborate elf on the shelf surprises for a prolonged period each year, is her Girl Scouts troop leader, etc.). She's been asking her fairy to take her to Neverland. The fairy responded "not yet", and instead supplied what my daughter referred to as "free" tickets" (online $20/pp, or $139/annual which includes an adult and 3 kids) to Fairyland the next day. We took the Bart to 19th St Oakland from San Francisco, which was SUPER convenient (daughter loves the train, and I hate driving in traffic), thought a bit of a walk in the Oakland heat/humidity. Also the lake that it's located on, absolutely reeks of sewage--I don't understand how people purposely walk/jog along the edges; but at least you can't really smell it from Fairyland. Just walk on the upper sidewalk or across the street if you share in my disgust. You'll get plenty of cute photos. The few rides they have (4 rides total) are very cute, had no lines on a summer weekday, and only accommodate heights between 36"-54" (except for the Jolly Trolley train which is all heights though adults need to watch their heads when squeezing in and out). The height restriction is very important to know before you go, to ensure your kid isn't disappointed. Wear sunscreen. No mosquitoes, which I was concerned about given the standing lake water and humidity. There are outdoor sinks with soap and antibacterial to wash your hands periodically, which I appreciated. As expected, a high priced gift shop, though it's stocked primarily with smaller toys, so if you're roped into purchasing something it won't break the bank. The single restaurant counter is actually quite perfect! Imaginibbles serves super cute, kid friendly healthy food that is reasonably priced at ~$7/entree. Smaller portions, but in my opinion, perfect for a theme park. The reusable cup ($8, includes one refill) is color changing when cold, very sturdy for a plastic cup, and you can fill with strawberry, white peach or watermelon lemonade that isn't overly sweet. You are also allowed to bring your own food, and there were plenty of folks picnicking on the large grassy area. Attractions are definitely old (paint missing throughout), and not cleaned well. Spiderwebs galore, particularly in areas that are meant to only be looked at, such as the Alice statue that you can see through a window in the Alice in Wonderland tunnel. A quick broom sweep would do wonders! There are a number of cute smaller animals, like chickens, a bearded dragon, 2 donkeys, and a land tortoise. These areas conversely appear relatively well maintained, which is fantastic for both the animals and to keep smells minimal. There is also a pressed wood town area with a slide where the kids can run around and climb into the different buildings, which seemed to be a favorite of many kids. There is a long ~30min puppet show (daily ~11am, 2pm) that changes seasonally, and somehow manages to keep most kids' attention. Magic key ($3) is an easy souvenir (colors change each day, so theoretically you can collect them), and used to hear music/stories through various boxes around the park. Though boxes are staticky (older), and some have bolts sticking out that prevent your key from being turned and thus the stories/music to play. My daughter quickly tired of them anyway, but she loves treasures like the "magic" key, so it was money well spent. There is also a hand-crank penny presser (51 cents) in the gift shop, so bring some change. One disappointment of Fairyland, is that there are literally no "fairies" anywhere to be found. You'd think they might have a few tiny fairy houses situated out of reach, or even fairy lights in trees to simulate fairies. Overall, fun filled and worth the ticket price. Just be sure your kid is in the height range for rides!

It's a great place to go with your kids, by yourself, or for small meetups. One of the reasons I enjoy this farm is that it's FREE, including parking. We were a bit bummed when we went as a group and saw that feeding the animals is no longer an option, but that information is posted on the website, so I'm not going to fault them for something we didn't double-check. Overall, the animals don't seem to care much about the people and keep their distance OR we happen to come on a bad day and they were overwhelmed with all the volunteers (I sure was) I check the website so I totally knew and understand about feeding the animals not being a thing anymore (so I don't get how people blame the farm when it's a quick search to check) BUT they should consider closing or posting a notice when having younger volunteers at the farm learning and taking up all the space and animals. We genuinely didn't get to enjoy them at all because the kids inside the enclosure with them keeping them farther away or just busy in general. Well possibly come back again before summer is up and hope the animals are a bit more active/social lol

The bald eagle was a highlight for me, and honestly the poop exhibit by the restroom was surprisingly fun and educational. Only here would that actually be a memorable part of the visit. I also really liked the outdoor show and the interactive animal encounters. They brought out animals you could touch like a snake and even cockroaches, which made the experience feel a lot more engaging. Overall, a fun and unique spot, especially good for families or anyone who likes wildlife up close.

We enjoyed the bird display and all the other animals. It's seems throughout the day they are constantly cleaning or feeding the animals that allows you to watch. The staff is very friendly. If you coming from more than an hour away to this place save yourself. Moreover, It's best for toddlers to elementary kids. The parking lot is small and you can park on the street or the parking lot behind the couch. Also, there is a park playground behind the museum for play and maybe a brought home sit down lunch.

There wasn't much foot traffic when we arrived at opening, and the employees were efficient from check in through the gift shop. We finished the entire aquarium in about 45 minutes. The entrance opened into a large tank filled with plump schools of sardines. A few additional exhibits led into the photo area. The souvenir photos came out crisp, though it was amusingly obvious that we had been photoshopped onto grainy animal backdrops. Interestingly, the path then led outdoors to the next exhibit area, guided by chalk markings on the ground. There were five species of jellyfish displayed in beautifully illuminated tanks before entering a surrounding glass tunnel featuring sharks, rays, and a variety of fish. There were occasional shark presentations, though I was disappointed there wasn't a designated seating area. Everyone awkwardly stood off to the side while trying to listen to the educational talk. Fortunately, the sharks themselves were active and impressive to watch. The final section featured a stingray touch tank. Surprisingly, there wasn't an easily accessible hand washing station immediately afterward. The turtles were active, the snakes were peacefully lounging, and although there weren't many otters, they appeared healthy, sleek, and well cared for. Ironically, the gift shop was the most well stocked with a wide variety of souvenirs. The photo package cost $35 and included a magnet. Despite what some reviews suggested, it never became crowded during our visit, so arriving near opening seems to be the best strategy. This makes for a pleasant addition to a day exploring San Francisco, especially given its convenient location near the pier. However, I wouldn't visit expecting an experience comparable to some of the country's more renowned aquariums.

I didn't see any stairs as an option. I had an aquarium pass through my Go City pass and after the North Beach tour (also included in the Go City pass) that ended at Pier 39, I thought going to the aquarium would nice since it was "free," as opposed to $30.48 for an adult. The underwater tunnels were nice, and I really enjoyed the touch tank to touch a purple sea anemone. I have never touched on in the wild, and after asking the staff a stupid of question of whether it stings or not (duh, likely not since it is in a touch tank), I put my finger out. No sting but the sea anemone grips your finger with the tip of its tentacles and it is like scotch tape. I hope it doesn't hurt the anemone when we pull our finger away. The water looked clean, but I got to wonder with all those unwashed fingers and hands going in the tank. The sea otter exhibit was cute if you could catch them when they swam. The aquarium was small enough that no one would get too tired walking through it. The wait for the elevators on a non-busy weekday detracted from the visit. There should be staff directing patrons to stairs if they prefer, then the visit would have been fine for me. On the bottom floor for the first elevator after the jelly fish, there was a photographer to take pictures before you can get to the elevator. Even if you don't want a picture, you have to wait for the elevator. It was not a busy time for the aquarium but the lines and wait for the elevators detracted from the experience. I didn't notice dirty or unwell fish, since that would have made me sad. Compared with the California Academy of Sciences aquarium on the lower level, this aquarium was quieter. The Academy of Sciences aquarium's wall size aquariums reflected the excited children's voice and loud adult voices to a point it that it was noise overload and combined with the dark, blue, low ceilings contributed to a claustrophobic effect.
