The interview went well and the officer was friendly. The second time I went in for my oath ceremony. It was busier this time. Every employee that I encountered was friendly, helpful and patient. I did not see anyone that was rude to candidates or applicants. In fact, I felt their excitement for us becoming US citizens which I thought was so sweet of them. What also stood out to me was that the employees were very friendly, warm and respectful to each other, which is more than you can say of some work environments in corporate America. There is a parking lot across from the building. I believe it's free to use if you have an appointment, but we parked on the street a block away.

He required my spouse to leave the room without clear explanation. He then asked me a confusing question ("What's happening in Florida in 2023?"), did not allow the interpreter to fully translate, and raised his voice at me when I tried to clarify.

ALL DMV's in NJ feel more like you're inside of a State Prison filled with absolutely miserable and…read moreangry inmates. Well, the West Deptford / Thorofare DMV takes this to a whole NEW level! I went to finally get my REAL ID Driver's License (that will become mandatory for domestic air travel as of May 2025 - unless you use a valid passport. For international flights, you definitely should have BOTH!. (I would VERY strongly recommend getting your REAL ID right now as the DMV has a sign posted something like "No everyone will be seen today and that you may have to reschedule"). One of the women at the initial entry point has a SERIOUS attitude problem and couldn't find my name on the list at first - when I asked if there was a problem, she snarled at me like a wild dog. Once I gave her my name, she easily found me on the list. ALL she had to do is ask "What's your name?" WTF? After filling out a small form she provided and waiting in line to have my documents searched at another station, I waited for my number to be called for document scanning and REAL ID photo to be taken (They don't tell you that you need to look at a TV monitor to find out WHAT station you need to go to for that...AGAIN WTF?). Thankfully, it was a fairly quick process...approximately 1/2 half - 40 mins. I was told there was a 20 day turnaround time to receive the REAL ID license in the mail, so just an FYI. Also, it will cost $35.00 and you can pay with debit or credit card (No cash accepted from what I could see) and you can pay right at the same area as the photo is taken. Thank the Good Lord that MOST DMV services can be performed ONLINE!! P.S. The AC was apparently broken, so that MAY explain the extra DMV employee bitterness on the day I went, maybe??

No matter what you're going to the NJMVC for, who assists you, or what kind of attitude you walk in…read morewith, the experience seems detrimental to your health. The atmosphere is consistently frustrating, and it feels like nobody wants to be there any more than the customers do. Unfortunately, that attitude often shows. I understand that work is work, and dealing with the public all day can't be easy, but customer service is still part of the job. After visiting 10 to 12 different MVC locations over the years, this one stands out as the worst I've experienced. The process feels unnecessarily stressful, the environment is unpleasant, and leaving is usually the best part of the visit. If there were a way to avoid coming here entirely, I'd recommend

When you go in, you have to relinquish your ID. I think. No big deal. The permit people are fantastic. Hey, nobody wants to shell out money for anything, but such is life. One woman almost made me cry. She showed so much compassion to me that it struck me: I did not even know her, and she was so sweet in a sea of people who had robotic emotions or no empathy. (I am not special, but everyone deserves basic respect.) And the tax peeps- they never tired of answering questions. They were a big help. They were nice, both in person and on the phone. I almost forgot that I got married in this building. I had on a crown of rose leaves, and a teen library patron seemed struck by that. Afterwards, my dad told my husband to "take care of his baby." The police are in this building. No misbehaving. They will drag you into court. You can park across the street if there are no spaces left. The lots are tiny. The schoolhouse is still there. I hope it always will be.
