Ok in in stark contrast to the Philadelphia Vital Record office, was my encounter with the US Customs office at 2nd and Chestnut. I actually had to set an appointment and then get them to reschedule, because Vital Records lost my original BC, and had to reissue it and this delayed the process. Customs was wonderful through the entire appointment scheduling process, and was great about appointment reminders.
Upon arriving at Customs I recognized the large stone building immediately (you can tell a gov't building), and entering I had to go through security screening. It was not unpleasant. The screeners were processional, quick and efficient. Look in this post 911 world security screening is a way of life. I checked in at the security desk and was directed to the appointment line, after a short wait, with pre-screening (meaning someone checked my documents while I was in line) I got to the front counter and got my number. No more than a 5 minute wait to get the number and then about another 5 minute wait to get to the window for the actual processing.
At the processing window, my paperwork was quickly quickly and efficiently. Small talk was made and the clerk was lovely to interact with. I was informed about the entire process, and when I could get my passport, which was in 2 days. Everyone that I encountered in that office went above and beyond! 5 STARS for US Customs! read more
