We were on vacation and decided to come here. If you go into the cemetery it's like $5 a person and small kids are free. It is a small cemetery but very old. My son loves his so this was a cool place to see . If you don't want to pay you can see the grave from the street there's bars but you get a good look. It's something inexpensive to do with the family.

Well let me tell you this was an experience. My husband and I got to the grave outside the cemetery and seeing that it was very difficult to snap a picture of it through the fence without fear of dropping my phone we decided to hoof it over to Christ church, pay the admission and go back to tour the burial grounds. It had just stopped raining so we trekked about 3-4 blocks to find the church. Once inside I was asked if I wanted to tour the church. I replied that I wanted to pay to go to the cemetery. The lady replied "the cemetery's closed due to rain." I reminded her that it had stopped raining about an hour ago but she told me that with the grounds still being wet there were liability issues with people falling on the wet pavement and downed limbs. She told me I could view it from the street. DUH, I just did that. Oh well. She told me I could go around back of the church and see the other notables buried there. I thanked her and headed back. So I slowly tried to get a picture of the stone. It was very difficult to read but did the best I can. I was glad at least to see where the Franklin family is buried. One way or another I managed to get a picture through the fence. Yes the grave is covered with pennies. I was about to throw one but didn't want to run the risk of losing something over there. The pennies are there for Franklin's saying "a penny saved is a penny earned." Man if he knew how many pennies were on his tombstone in a day he would have been rich!! There are historical markers in the area to help you understand the site. My advice is to call the church if you wish to tour the burial grounds to make sure it is open. Otherwise, save yourself the trouble and snap a picture of it through the fence. You'll have a photo keepsake of where a notable founding father is interred. I'm glad at least they put his tomb near the street for people to view.

Amazing to know Benjamin Franklin rests here. It was great that we were able to see his grave from the main street, as the cemetery was closed. Wish though that the cemetery/tour was open early since we couldn't experience the tour or inside of the graveyard.

This is one of Philadelphia must see sites. It's situated between the Betsey Ross House and the National Constitution Center. The grave where Mr Franklin and his wife lay was close to the street so we were able to stay next to it from the sidewalk and pay our respects. There were other people there and many threw pennies. I will need to look up the meaning to that.. lol I'll definitely be back/stop by when I'm in the area.

It is odd to review a grave, but it's also not the first time that I have done this. Benjamin Franklin's Grave is kind of a hot spot along the sidewalk. I walked around here a few times for my days in the city and there was always someone there. There are two ways to go about viewing this grave. You can simply view it from the sidewalk from behind the metal gate in the brick wall. This is how a lot of people view it. The other way to view it is to pay a fee to enter either the cemetery that the grave resides in, or from another nearby site to see. If you do this way of viewing it, you will be able to view it how ever you want and have unobscured views and angles of the grave. Along with Benjamin Franklin's grave you will be able to view his wife's and children's graves as well. A lot of people that pass by here have thrown coins onto to the grave. Majority of them appear to be pennies but other coins were visible as well. Definitely worth at least a look if you are making your way about Philadelphia. Even if it is not your intention to do so.

While we were in Philadelphia we had to hit up all the cool tourist things and landmarks and all that because I'm a big advocate for exploring cities. We had a really good time seeing all the sites and things came across the wonderful Benjamin Franklin's grave and this was just a cool thing to see all the history Just seeing all the things this man has done his accomplishments and just everything that he's done and his reading about him and it was just an awesome site to see

Benjamin Franklin's Burial Place is located within the Christ Church Burial Grounds (https://www.yelp.com/biz/christ-church-burial-ground-philadelphia-2). You can specifically find it at 499 Arch St, Philadelphia, PA 19106. The Burial Grounds are open, weather permitting, March-November, Monday-Saturday 10am-4pm and Sunday 12pm-4pm. While the grounds are only open limited hours, Benjamin Franklin's grave is viewable for free 24/7/365. He has a special fenced-in area that faces the sidewalk, street, and appropriately, the United States Mint, at the corner of Arch and N Independence Mall E. We visited Benjamin Franklin's last resting place on a Sunday around 5:30pm. There was hardly anyone around. His grave consisted of a large, engraved marble slab with a bunch of coins - mostly pennies - tossed on top. The reason why is because Franklin (1706-1790) popularized the phrase: "A penny saved is a penny earned." Also, the "Franklin cent," the first official circulation coin of the US, was designed by Franklin and minted in 1787 (worth $0.01). On either side of the fence protecting the gravesite were brick walls and columns with honorary and informational plaques. One plaque included quotes about Franklin from George Washington, French Revolution leader Honore Gabriel Riqueti (Count of Mirabeau), and French statesman Jacques Turgot. Franklin's wife Deborah Read is buried with him. His son, Francis Folger, and four other signers of the Declaration of Independence are buried nearby. If you're visiting the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, you might as well swing by and visit Benjamin Franklin's Grave. It's only a couple blocks away. Other historic attractions nearby that are worth checking out include the National Constitution Center, Betsy Ross House, and Elfreth's Alley.

One of the must go places for school field trip. Very important piece of history. Definitely a landmark in the city. It is interesting to hear from the tour guide that hundreds of thousands of visitors toss pennies at the grave for good luck. The city makes about over $3000 each other from those pennies!!

It was pretty good. It wasn't the most interesting grave I've ever seen, but I would probably stop by again if I was in the area.

It's really difficult to rate someone's grave especially is someone as famous as Benjamin Franklin. But I only gave it four stars because you actually have to pay to go into the cemetery to visit his grave. It was just a sad point where they have to start charging for people and families to go in and visit their own history. It's just wrong. I had five children and I would never have been able to take them anywhere if I had to pay for every single museum. It's really sad for the families now. I love seeing this but I wouldn't pay to go in either. They do have a plaque outside and you can look into the fence to see the grave. For some reason people throw money on it and I don't know why. But it was very exciting to see

The space for the service was disappointingly small and overflow was in a next door room with TV monitors. When we began making arrangements with the funeral director, he ran through options very fast with us, and seemed annoyed that we needed some time to discuss among ourselves. His coworker or assistant was equally cold and dismissive of us with any questions we had. It was embarrassing and disappointing to hear from several people attending the service, or calling in, that they dealt with rudeness from this establishment. These are situations that require compassion, patience, and care, none of which was demonstrated by the staff. They are the experts, not the customers, and the customers should be treated patiently, as they navigate an unfamiliar and emotional process. Instead, we felt like school children being scolded. It was awful. The only positive was that the female that works there, did an amazing job with making our loved one look natural. Unfortunately, when I thanked and complimented her, I was met with barely a response back. I would never use this place again.

We chose Rakowski's because of the close ties to the community, and from the minute we walked in Andrew was professional and comforting. He led us through the decision-making process without any pressure and he made helpful suggestions when we didn't know what to do. His funeral home is lovely; a mixture of classic warmth and modern conveniences. Several of our guests commented that there were thoughtful touches that you wouldn't think of until you needed them. For example, there is a coffee bar area in the back, there is a comfortable chair tucked away if you need a moment alone, and there is a bluetooth speaker for playing your own music choices. Andrew stayed in close contact for when we had questions, and he competently handled every detail, even guiding our 25 car procession to through a huge traffic jam on I-95 to get us to the cemetery in Newtown on time. We are so grateful to Andrew for making such a difficult and emotional time go as smoothly as possible. My dad would definitely have been impressed.
