I moved to NYC 4 1/2 years ago, and I still come home to my parent's house and get my hair cut here. Lori is the BEST hair stylist I've ever had. No matter what I want done - new cut, trim, color, eyebrow wax, mani/pedi - she does it all and it always comes out WONDERFULLY. I've gotten my hair cut at various upscale NYC salons, sometimes paying up to $125 for a hair cut and nothing comes close to the way Lori cuts. She knows the basics so it always results in a good style. She listens, knows my hair and how I like it and delivers every time. Her pedicures are fantastic as well. A little pricier than what I'm used to in NYC ($30 here w/ french) but it's totally worth it - my feet are the smoothest and toes look perfect for a good two weeks. I can't say enough good about this place - although it could really use a serious facelift. The decor looks like it's straight out of the 70's. The quality service makes up for it, but it would be nice to see a little update. Another great thing is that you can book an appointment (especially if you have to have a few lengthy services) but you can also walk in and they're very accommodating. Haircuts run about $25 for women, pedicures are $25, eyebrows are $8, manicures are $10. An all-around color is around $30 (I think) and of course highlights vary. They also have tanning too, at a pretty cheap price ($30/month, I believe). Credit cards accepted which is always good too! All in all, a good salon for a great cut that never fails. Ask for Lori, she really is the best!

I also love how they will cut and send your hair out for donation if asked. I will always return to Mary Taylor's.

The second time, for my fill, I showed Kelly a long pink-to-white ombre design and asked for extra length. The length didn't happen, and I didn't say anything because I truly do not know the process and thought she was going to. The ombré didn't happen either, she did two or three coats of a light pink to give an illusion of an ombré? Because I guess the tips being thinner lets light pass and makes the tips look kinda like a pink to white ombré? I also told her clearly that I wanted the letter E on my ring fingers--regardless of there being no E in the photo. She still misunderstood, thinking the little light reflecting dots in the photo was somehow the design that I wanted. She did the dots to a total of 4 fingers and each of those times I specified I wanted an E and not what she was doing. She either didn't hear me each time somehow or does not know English that well. I was sitting in confusion and so was she apparently. So after that, I went home defeated because I didn't know how to be any clearer, told my mom, and we returned with a photo of a letter E from Pinterest. When I came back Kelly asked for the original photo again and pointed at the literal light reflection and said that I "should have told her" because that's what she thought I wanted. I apologized for not directly showing a photo of a letter E, but that I definitely DID tell her multiple times that there was no E in the photo, but that's what I would like. (Initial on a nail for significant others has been trending for many months so I didn't think to prepare a photo) She fixed it and I got my E, but was still unsatisfied because I spent 50 on a set I'm not that satisfied with, when I could've spent 15-25 bucks more and got the length and ombré I wanted aswell as the E. Despite the miscommunication, it is a cute salon and not as stressful as maybe diva nails or any place bigger.

I booked online and it was easy and convenient. The first available appt was around 3 months away so I booked a massage and Shirodhara (scalp massage). I arrived to my appt and was immediately led upstairs and shown the dressing room so that I could change into a robe. They don't offer the same sleek looking, brown robe with their logo on it for plus size customers. Instead I was given a white robe, that while comfy and oversized, seemed a little dingy. My masseuse, Raquel, was AMAZING. I enjoyed every second of my 80 minute massage. The Shirodhara was nice and Becky did a great job. Unfortunately, it left my long hair in some really bad knots so I don't think that is a service I would try again. All of the oils used in both services smelled soooo good! The atmosphere was very tranquil and relaxing. They offer some complimentary teas and water. I did book another service with Raquel -- it was probably one of the best massages I've had so I look forward to returning! Parking is available in front (street parking) or there is a small lot around back.

So I called the woodhouse because I've been there many times in my youth and remembered it as smelling like a good time. It really was. I just had a massage and it hurt. It really hurt but that's when you know it works. Aleah was so professional when I made gross sounds (not controllable and I did apologize) the place is beautiful and today my back feels like it belongs to a child. It was expensive (to what I thought, I thought an hr massage would be $100 but again I'm old and my mind is stuck in 2009) but u get what you pay for and they really deliver on that. Please go there and request Aleah
