TL;DR: salon more concerned with maximizing revenue than creating a good experience. I had a friend visiting from out of town and I thought a group manicure and pedicure would be a fun and relaxing vacation activity for me and my two friends. Gloss 'n Glam is a cute, cheerful, clean, neighborhood salon--with lots of natural light--comfortable chairs with built in sinks for spa pedicures--and a pleasant staff. Sadly the salon seemed more concerned with maximizing revenue than creating a good guest experience. We arrived promptly at 3:00PM for our manicure & pedicure appointment--they started out by seating us in their plush red leather chairs and proceeded to place our feet into a refreshing fizzy bath with hot stones and everything started out great. Moments after being seated though I realized they only had one employee to start all three of us! Another employee finally joined to assist after 15 minutes when they wrapped up their haircut--but then left again minutes later without an apology or explanation to take another appointment--all while I was left with my feet soaking in increasingly cold water for an entire hour having without even being touched! When it became apparent that they would not be getting to me for at least an hour after my appointment time I asked for a towel to try off my wrinkly feet and decided to let my friends enjoy the experience while I wrote this review. The overall quality of work was adequate: one friend received a decent mani-pedi, the second friend had about 70% of that service, and I received zero. Simple advice: if you can't take care of your customers at the time booked--don't book them--it's bad business. An apology would have gone a long way too. read more

I'd recommend this spot for hair and nails, but maybe not so much for waxing... The salon is cute and very clean. Everything was bright and welcoming, decor and furniture seemed new. The price is right for all of the services offered (cheaper than other places nearby) and the pedicure was on-point. I might be a pampered princess, but the lack of the usual massage chair and "trashy" magazines left me feeling like part of the experience was missing. It is what it is... I also got a bikini wax, and although the aesthetician did a good job, it wasn't the best setting for one. I needed a haircut quite badly about five months ago (give or take a month) and I had always seen this place when I was at my friends across the street. As I was in need of a new stylist, I figured it couldn't hurt. If anything, I could call a friend and have them fix it. I walked in, and was immediately seated with the lady in charge - Maryann! She's a gem. Sat me down and started chatting me up in an instant. And while I am usually a bit quiet when I get my hair cut, she had me talking in no time. She might be a mother, but she will bring the sass better than most people I know. And she can dish some funny stories as well. I went back later on, and she remembered me and my style without having to look at any books. That's something that I think it really great. Aside from being a great stylist, she makes the customer feel at ease and doesn't stop with just your visit. She's let me put up flyers in her window and has pulled clients over to show them about events (I love her for that). And she also hosts gatherings in her salon for her clients towards the end of the day. She's always trying to set me up with one of her other clients, and I think that's sweet. I've even heard that she set up two of her clients and they had some great chemistry together and have dated for a while. If you want a basic haircut, go to a Super Cuts. MaryAnn is very nice but my hair is a disaster. It's the first time in my life I've actually gone to another hair salon afterwards to have my hair fixed. I asked for layers. The first time I got no layers. Then I pointed that out and she made two totally separate layers. I asked her to make it more soft and not so choppy, but she was very insistent that it wouldn't have as much volume. Well I'm nearly 30 and that's never been a problem the rest of my life, and the other person I well to managed to fix that problem. I got my hair done before leaving town for a work meeting and then to see family, and it looks so much worse than before I went in yesterday that I feel embarrassed to see everyone. She is a master at hair dying and hair cuts...She does rush at times but that is only because she wants her clients to be happy and done in a reasonable amount of time. The waxing area is a small closed off curtain area--but don't let the appearance fool you, she is great at waxing and careful. Manis/Pedis she is great at as well, however she does seem to rush those services a little more than her assistant---still quality work though. Since I had a wait after the time I was told a manicurist would be available, I was given a a discount and only charged $10, to which I added a $3.00 tip. Imagine my surprise when, in checking my bank balance, I noticed that I had been charged $20 for the visit.
