We live 420 miles away from Glockner HTCDGJR of Portsmouth (4-hour one way drive). We pursued a Glockner Certified Used vehicle purchase based upon online ads at Autotrader and Glockner websites with an advertised list price of $28,989. The price was the same on both websites. Both ads included a $699 Glockner Guarantee Certificate (attached) which indicates in all capital letters that it is INCLUDED with qualifying vehicles: which this vehicle was. Per Ohio law, any advertised price for a motor vehicle represents the full price including all costs to the consumer except tax, title, registration fees and documentary charge. So, by law the Guarantee had to be included. We had asked our salesperson (Dave Peck) to remove the $699 Guarantee and provide a credit o the list price of the vehicle. He indicated that the cost was not optional and could not be removed and was already included in the price of the vehicle. This information conforms to Ohio law. We then moved on to the financing office (Stephen Russell) the vehicle cost was listed as $1,000 more than the list price. It also included an added line item cost of $699 Guarantee. He admitted there was a $1,000 "mistake" and corrected the mistake however he refused to remove the added $699. He stated it was not included the List Cost; it was an added cost. He advised us to walk away from the deal if we did not want to pay the additional $699. I told him that I couldn't believe that we were the only customers to have ever complained about their false advertising - he shrugged his shoulders and indicated that we were not the first customers to have complained and added that "everyone has the opportunity to walk away from a deal." As we had already invested 6 hours of our day with the trip out to the dealership (and still had another 4-hour drive to get back home), test drive and waiting for paperwork to be reprocessed, we reluctantly moved forward with the purchase. The next day, we reviewed the paperwork again and discovered an undisclosed added cost of $70. When we called Steve, he indicated that he was unable to determine what the cost was. He became very defensive saying that it had nothing to do with any Glockner process. He blamed it on the bank "likely mis-allocating a loan origination fee." He said that he would contact the bank and try to figure out what it was and would call me back. In the meantime, I checked with the bank and confirmed that they did not have a loan origination fee. Upon his return call, he indicated that it was another Glockner error related to non-reimbursed tax based on the $1,000 error noted above. He advised that we would be reimbursed via a check they would put in the mail within the next couple of days. Later that day, I called the Used car Sales Manager (Jeff Doak) to discuss how we were misled by Glockner's false advertising of the vehicle list price and frustrated that we experienced multiple financial "mistakes". We felt that it was an entirely unprofessional transaction and they seemed to operate very unethically. And, just like the finance person, he simply said that we should have walked away from the deal. I told the Manager that we believed that the Glockner team's actions were not only unethical but also illegal - and that there are Federal and State laws to protect consumers from exactly what Glockner did to us. I told him that I would endeavor to write as many candid reviews online so that I could warn others what to expect/look out for if they deal with Glockner. I advised that I would also be contacting several agencies to look into their business practices. He replied that I could go ahead and do that and that Glockner has been around for 100+ years; and indicated that they don't break any laws. I replied that I understood his position, but did not agree. False advertising is a violation of consumer protection laws.The car-buying experience that we encountered is the epitome of why there are these types of consumer protection laws. I had bought a vehicle from there, a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and as I drove it home it had broken down on the side of the road very cold outside with baby in car. I did not hesitate to call them and there was no answer. I had called a tow truck they got it picked up the next day from my house got the vehicle fixed. I daily drive it and broke down once again after having the vehicle for only 2 months, they will not fix it, my "only vehicle" I had contacted them and all answers pointed to no. During a recent visit, my wife and I test drove a new truck that we both enjoyed very much. Everyone was a pleasure to talk with and treated us very kindly. I went to Glockner looking for a family friendly vehicle. I had some idea of what I wanted, but I hated everything I thought I was going to like. John Howard happened to be the lucky sales man to get stuck with me that day! I had him walking all over the lot showing me vehicle after vehicle and none of the ones on the lot were a perfect fit. So we ventured in to check out what options he had for me on some other Glockner lots. As we were looking we found a few possibilities but he remembered a vehicle that he had just taken in on trade and told me that he thought it would be a perfect fit. He knew what I wanted; an SUV that was either brand new or gently used, family friendly, comfortable for someone that was crazy tall and something that didn't guzzle the gas. I agreed to look at it, ended up taking it for a test drive and fell in love with it! Now the hard part, committing. We went in and talked price and payments and he got it where I needed to be to feel comfortable with the payment amount. After some tears were shed and him displaying lots of compassion and patience I FINALLY signed. I walked out of there with some epic savings and a smile on my face! I purchased a used vehicle and was told there were no issues with it. upon first inspection it seemed okay. However, once I got it home I started noticing things. The car began to overheat, it was low on coolant, the rear windshield wiper does not work, it had a front headlight out, and it needed to be serviced. The check engine light is now on. I called the next day and it took me over five calls to get through to someone. I explained the issues I was having and no one would help me. I was told by the girl I bought it from that she would check the service records, but she won't return my calls. They clearly didn't check the vehicle before they put it on the lot. Contacted Austin Howard at Glockner Chevrolet in Portsmouth Ohio about ordering a New Corvette Stingray. Austin told me that they did not have a Corvette Order Allocation, but he would call me when they did. On February 16, 2023 Austin called me with the good news. I supplied Austin with the Chevrolet Corvette Website Complete Order Information on the car I wanted to order. Also, I supplied Austin my latest FICO Credit Report showing a Score of 806. Excellent Credit to qualify to order a New Corvette. Austin called me back and informed me that Glockner Chevrolet wanted a $10,000 Deposit to place the order. I asked Austin to please get with his Sales Manager to see if that deposit could be less since most New Car Dealers request a $500 to $1000 Deposit when ordering a New Car. The New Corvette Ordering Process after the order has been accepted by Chevrolet usually takes 3 to 6 months. (Holding my $10,000 Deposit for 3 to 6 Months) After this conversation Austin would not return my calls, my texts or my emails. Two days later I finally got a hold of Austin Howard on Saturday February 18th and he informed me that "my allocation" was given to a customer in Kansas. I am a local customer and we agreed on a purchase price of the MSRP Price Sticker. The Sales Manager at Glockner sold "my ordering allocation" to make more profit to someone in Kansas...Glockner has a 2023 Chevrolet Corvette 2LT Coupe on their showroom floor that they have now in the last few days increased the MSRP Sticker Price by $10,000...I have been buying new cars for 50 years and I have never been treated like this...It was never about the $10,000 Deposit, it was selling "my allocation" to another customer several states away in Kansas to make more profit. He is very cordial and knowledgable about the vehicles GMC produces. I had another dealership looking for the truck I needed to no avail. Trever, somehow was able to locate the truck needed and it has options beyond my needs. The dealership gave me a fair price for my trade in. One of the main things that struck me was that when I came in to buy vehicle costing about $40,000. I was presented the new vehicle with bird crap all over it and the windows were greasy and dirty. I ask the salesperson to clean it up while we were going through the sales process but once I had signed the final paperwork and came out to the vehicle as still had bird crap and black marks all over it. I left hoping that it would clean up after a good wash. Furthermore there was no attempt to clean the inside of the vehicle either. Originally, when I saw the 0% commercial on TV for new cars, I called Glockners. Having bought cars before, I know Nick so I asked for him. I talked to him and Danny Bradshaw several times. Told them I'm interested. I went to Glockner's to view the inventory on the lots. Then I returned calls to Glockner's and got no answer so I left a message. I got a call back from a lady who tells me they are closed and will return my call when they reopen. I also got the same text message from Nick. Weeks went by. I drive back to Glockner's and see that they are open in business with many employees and customers there! I was TICKED that no one called me like they promised. I understand the Covid-19 story, but there's no excuse for that poor customer service. So, I go in and express my displeasure. We arranged some trial drives. I was trying to decide between two 2020 vehicles. I told both Nick and Danny that I want nothing less than I have now, which is a 2017 from Glockners. I bought a 2020 Enclave. I was so disappointed to discover it didn't have some luxuries that I'm used to - heating steering wheel, seat preference driver settings, etc. I assume responsibility for that. But what I am truly upset about is the lack of GPS! The sticker and papers say '"turn-by-turn directions", so I thought I had GPS! I am so mad and disappointed that I called Danny and he said "that means you have to buy on-star or use apple car play, you should've bought the other vehicle."! WHAT! Believe me, if I had none that the "turn-by-turn directions" did NOT mean GPS, I would NOT have bought this vehicle. I am not happy. Danny said "there's nothing we can do about it since we already sent the title or you'll lose money". I have dealt with Glockner's for years but this was the worst deal. read more
