When determining the yumminess of any fresh lumpia I encounter, Globe's lumpia remains to be my point of comparison and the ultimate deciding factor. So far, no lumpia has ever matched Globe's (or am I missing out on something?!?!). They've been serving topnotch lumpia since 1957, and still remain a household name-- a lumpia definitely worth traveling hours for.
I've spent a lot of time trying to dissect what's inside this masterpiece, and what makes it so remarkable. It does have the same veggies as other lumpias (and they use super fresh romaine lettuce, too!), so perhaps it's the super tasty, pureed garlic and that red sauce thing? It's a mystery. It's not a pretty-looking lumpia, but what it lacks in appeal it makes up for in flavor. Best meat-free, completely vegan snack you can get for only Php18 per piece!

However, 2 months ago, we dropped by for an early lumpia breakfast and we found out that they no longer let customers dine in, and they're now just a take-out joint--because they're finally RENOVATING (Guess they realized it's 2015 already!). So we had no choice but to stand outside the store and eat our lumpia there, which is quite "...ehhh." Not the same experience. I can't wait for the new shiny store upgrade! read more
