This store was pretty nice! I was a little worried reading the comments, but when I went it, it was a cute! They have a variety of things, you never know what you'll find. I personally got a candle and a dish to put it in. Definitely overpriced for some of the clothing, being too expensive for the type of material, but still decent. Came in while on vacation because I've been here before and really enjoyed my last experience about 3 years ago. I came in last week and bought a pair of pants for $60 after one wash they're already tearing at the back seam and the black dye transfers onto my hands & anything I sit on. The service was also not the best I asked to try some things on and went up to an associate who was very rude and ignored me at first. As I was checking out I asked the worker who owned the shop because it's a lot of indigenous and poc items. To my surprise the owner was a white woman and she was just standing there watching us as I asked the worker who owned the place she was looking at me with a weird / condescending energy. Will definitely not be back and won't be recommending to any of my friends and family. read more

It Takes a Viking to Raze a Village Global Village is an eccentric shop in Canal Park where you can find everything from peculiar home decor, fair-trade jewelry and gifts that will leave recipients scratching their heads, to bizarre postcards that inspire you to write crazy messages on the back and then send anonymously to friends and family (because who wouldn't enjoy Christmas postcard tidings from Edward Scissorhands and a mushroom-toting granny?)!! There is so much packed in the store that you may feel visually overwhelmed when you first walk in--it is almost too much to browse in a single visit. But look long enough and you will find something you didn't know you needed, not entirely unlike shopping at Target. As a PSA I might also add that you may want to visit this shop before...not after...your trip to the nearby Vikre Distillery. Your wallet will thank you. My friends and I left with a handful of souvenirs (perhaps in part thanks to one too many Grape Gatsbys from the distillery)...some interesting pieces of moonstone and green onyx jewelry, as well as a sickeningly strong scent of patchouli that held death-like vice grips on our coats for days. You know, it really puts a crimp on any covert spy operations when people can smell you coming from ten blocks away. The store claims to be a purveyor of good vibrations from around the world, and I can't dispute that. The sales women were joys to work with as they fussed tirelessly to find the perfect pendants, rings, and earrings to complement our skin tones and personalities. My tribe and I plan on visiting this store again the next time we are in Duluth, but perhaps we'll have to invent some anti-incense spray first. "One more thing. She wears Patchouli. I have often passed by Global Village and decided to stop in finally. It reminded me actually of a Ten Thousand Villages store -- the focus is on fair trade goods that are sourced from around the world. There's everything from pottery to clothes to textiles. Everything was arranged nicely and neatly kept. The store smells heavily of incense. I took a quick breeze around and didn't see anything appealing so I dipped out. But the folks in the store were really friendly, saying hi when I came in and thanking me for coming in when I left. So not my cup of tea, but a really nice little shop. read more

Global Village's best quality is the wisdom available within the establishment. The integrity of foresight and intuition is absolutely astonishing. Sometimes, when I am of melancholy, I reminisce of what life was like when I had the courage to make new friends and forge meaningful connection. From what I understand, many of these items were hand selected during abundant explorateur-esk expeditions. Based on my comprehension, this entails the basis of creating artifact. Beyond the beauty lie an incredible story of humanity. If it is sought to procure powerful talisman, Global Village is a choice portal to equanimity, that I would trek from Chicago to embrace. I stoped by this shop (8/4/22) while on vacation with my family looking for sustainable and long lasting rings. When walking in I did not feel welcome however I found the rings I was looking for and started browsing. I waited for about 10 minuets before I was helped which was fine because I found what was looking for. The person who helped me made me feel uncomfortable by misgendering me and acting condescending throughout the entire process. To top it all of as I was looking at rings the worker accused me of stealing as I was still looking! I was fuming at this point; offended and embarrassed by the rude worker. If you are looking for a welcoming and local fair trade market this is not the place. I would not recommend this shop to anyone who wants to enjoy their shopping experience and be treated with respect. Not ADA compliant, must go up 7-8 steps to get to store. I am a disabled vet with 3 medical qualified disabilities, but have always taking it in stride and say I may be disabled, but I am not unable. I managed the stairs ok, but was informed by the young girl behind the counter that although all dogs were welcomed, including service dogs, that I would have to carry her in arms. I explained I have a 10 lb. lifting limit (dog is 25lb Pug), she reiterated that it was her store policy. Thank goodness I am not blind with a hundred pound German Shepard. Filled with tons of little quirky figurines, or some of the weirdest gifts you can buy from people. They have tons of tapestries, so if you are into decorating your house or apartment with interesting patterns and fabrics, you can usually get some pretty cool ones from here. I feel this place is a bit overpriced, some of the things here are really cheaply made, but overall they have a lot of interesting things here. It is fun to spend some time sorting through the store. I have lived in Duluth for almost two years and have been to this shop a handful of times without incident. Today I was waited on by who I believe to be the owner and she seems to have some real issues with people with special needs or those appearing impoverished. Her customer service was terrible and I did not feel like I was valued as a customer. When I shared this with her, she basically told me that my business was not valuable to her. read more

I've been in this store a few times and I went in there with my oldest daughter, who definitely loves this place. I agree that it is overpriced, but it definitely is an eclectic store filled with great things for gifts and the person who loves to decorate with "not your ordinary" decor. The staff are very friendly and helpful, very laid back and so is the atmosphere. I would definitely shop here again. I don't think the things are cheaply made but I only purchased some Black Soap,body oil (which I wished they had a larger collection of) and Chinese balls for my stress. I love this store. read more
