When he realized I did not purchase my ebike through his store, he refused to do the repair. We drove further, to another bike store, for the repair. The difference in stores professionalism, knowledge and mechanic skills was night and day. I have been riding bikes all my life, including 1,000-mile road bike treks. In all my years of riding, purchasing bikes and accessories, having my bikes repaired and tuned, I have never had an unpleasant experience at any bike store. Steve Rice's Carolina ebike store was an unpleasant experience that I certainly don't want to repeat. Do yourself a favor, enjoy the professionalism, knowledge and friendliness of any other bike store and stay away from Carolina ebikes.

Do NOT trust Steve or Carolina E Bikes with your electric bikes - he is inept, unprofessional, and…read moreis not fit to run a business. My husband took his Super 73 in for a brake issue. Steve took it upon himself to take a corrupted battery from a different Super 73 and plug it into ours which immediately corrupted our bike. (My husband knew this bike was at the shop and specifically asked him to NOT do this). Steve then doesn't even have the common decency to call my husband; he had to call Steve. During this call, Steve finally fessed up to what he did and took responsibility, saying he would either fix the bike or give my husband a check to buy a new bike. He said he would give updates as he figured out how to fix the new issue. Did he give updates to us? No, he did not. It was on us to follow up with Steve who then started jerking us around and had the gall to get mad at my husband for wanting his bike fixed and back after it being in Steve's possession for 2 months. Steve started to text with vague updates but not answer calls from us. If we called the shop, he always seemed to be gone. We then called from my phone and Steve answered right away - that provided the confirmation of his avoiding my husband. Steve tried to come up with shortcut ways to fix the bike, including sending the battery and charger to someone in CA against my husband's wishes. It was either buy and install a new battery from Super 73 or write him a check to replace the bike. Steve continued to become angry, talk over us, and tell us how much money he was out because of this - a problem that was CREATED BY STEVE. Again, my husband called for an update 2 weeks later after hearing nothing from Steve or anyone at Carolina Electric Bikes. Steve says he is going to get a battery off eBay for the bike. My husband says, no, it's either from Super 73 or you will pay me to replace my bike. Steve got irate, called my husband a motherf***er (among other explicative names) and starts yelling at him for wanting to get his bike fixed or replaced. We said fine, if you are going to yell at us, call us names for something YOU did, we will take you to court. My husband gave him an ultimatum - either fully fix the bike or purchase a new one to replace it. Eventually my husband got his bike back but it was not fixed. We ended up at Blue Clay Bikes in Castle Hayne. We explained the situation and they said they would do their best to fix the issue. They were very knowledgeable and professional - a welcome change from Carolina Electric Bikes and Steve. Within 24 hours, they had my husband's bike working, tested it, and called for pick up. Blue Clay did this for less than $200. Again, this reiterates that Steve has no business trying to "fix" Super 73 bikes or electric bikes in general. Please, do yourself a favor, and learn from our experience. If you want to purchase a bike or have an issue; go to the knowledgeable professionals at Blue Clay Bikes.
