I also like that Gus gives back to the community and puts on so many free performances for families and other members of the community throughout the year. After attending a student showcase one of our friends was in, my maid of honor organized a private…read moreclass for my bachelorette party here! It was a blast! We went to their studio Saturday afternoon around 12:30 and brought in mimosas before we began at 1pm. The class was about an hour and a half from what I can remember. We opted to learn a mini routine for fun. Our group had about 8 girls in total. Red hot Annie led the class, she was full of energy, positive, kept a great pace, and did an excellent job explaining the various dance moves. We would learn portions of the dance and then practice the whole thing to music. We really liked the song selected and the routine! It was prefect for a bachelorette party. Overall it was a fun unique activity to do to get everyone out of their comfort zones. A few girls were worried about feeling uncomfortable but everyone was able to quickly get really into it and feel open to fully embrace it! It was a great activity to start the day and get everyone talking! I would highly recommend for bachelorette parties!!! I'm definitely going to look into taking workshops since I'm tight on time right now but I'd also look into taking classes with Red Hot Annie again!

JEEZY'S JUKE JOINT, AN AFRICAN-AMERICAN BURLESQUE SHOW…read more Loved Jeezy's Juke Joint, an all African-American Burlesque Show!. So much fun, not to mention somewhat educational. :) I enjoyed the MC, Jeez Loueez'. Got a kick out of her crazy humor and her ability to roll with the punches. The eclectic styles of burlesque that the ladies performed were very entertaining and some were more unique than others. I had never seen an all African-American cast of performers of burlesque and this was a real treat. I liked some more than others, but they all did their "thang" and did it in a way that made me feel they loved their craft. Can't be shy here. This is a very sexy show. I loved the campiness of some of the performers and it quite cool seeing slender and "healthier" ladies perform. There was something for everyone. MC Monty and his dancers did a dance number to his rap. Holliwood Monroe can really blow. She has a great set of pipes. Loved her voice. There was a male and a female drag performer, Shea Coulee and Switch the boi wonder. I've been around the block, but I was still enlightened. Among my personal favorites were Coco DuPree's interpretation of Isaac Hayes' song, "Do Your Thing". Her hot 1970's "Foxy Brown/Pam Grieresque" costume, complete with black faux fur jacket and train covering her red with black zebra stripe hotpants ensemble, topped off with a big red fan pick in her "fro" was so "right on" point. Reminiscent of Angela Davis. That girl knows she CAN move! Make no mistake, she did her thang. The girl was "baaaad" and her moves were tight. Praline DuPree's 1950's poodlelicious outfit and spirited dance routine were big fun. She was classy, spunky and coquettish all rolled into one. She had great charisma with a lovely hint of southern Louisiana charm. Horchata Dentata is one strong, tall woman who had some intense control on "the pole". She made it look easy. I expected to see a more petite woman, but I was so impressed with her strength and confidence. I ain't mad at her, no sireee. Foxy LaFeelion did a wonderful 1920's style dance and her costume was beautiful with its many layers. Marz Timms, the comic, was very funny. He cracked me up. I enjoyed Star Dixon's incredible tap dancing and the talent of "Shea Coulee", the rather rhythmic and stylish female impersonator. He definitely worked it for us. All in all, there were about 17 performers and they were all marvelous. They came in all shapes and sizes, which was refreshing to see. It was plain to see that everyone in the theater was having a good ol' time and tappin' their feet. Lots of whoopin' and hollerin' was goin' on. After seeing this show, I wanted to run out and buy some pasties and a red "Wonder" bra.

After a fifteen year hiatus I'm finally back in the dance studio, thanks to The Hive! I've had the…read moreitch to take a ballet class again for a while, and The Hive is in the neighborhood and offers classes, so I decided to give it a go. I was nervous going into it, but our instructor Tiffany had such a fun and easy going demeanor that she eased any nerves right away. The class was beginner ballet, and I think for someone with no prior experience it can be a little tricky. With that said, Tiffany did a great job going over all the movements and combinations. There were dancers of all skill levels which made it a really welcoming environment too! The class was an hour and started with barre and then went into some floor combinations. I had so much fun and reminded me why I love dance so much! I hope to come back soon for more classes. Thank you so much Tiffany + The Hive!!

She is very professional and gives you the freedom to be as creative and sexy as you want. She doesn't make you feel pressured to be a certain way, so if you wanted to, you could be goofy, sexy, graceful, etc. How you interpret pole is exactly that, your interpretation. She's on time, organized, and really friendly. This isn't just a regular aerobics class. The moves you do are more suggestive and require more athletic ability than you think. It would be really nerve racking for anyone who's just starting out or not comfortable enough with themselves to just strut their stuff on the pole right away, but Angela helps ease that tension. She's got a really cute little studio in her living room with 5 poles. They are all perfectly spaced and she's got sexy lighting and mirrors in their too. Seriously, it's just this awesome girl room where you can just let your freak flag fly! I'll rave about Pole Velocity all day. Had my first class week and was feeling hesitant about how it would go, but Angela is great. She's got credibility, experience, and a nice little set up that makes you feel comfortable there. Plus, she's got these cute fluffy cats that chill out and watch you dance which is hilarious. Love the class, love the prices, love the environment. Great!!! We've been to the Old Town School many times, but not for several years now. A close cousin was…read moreplaying, who teaches at the school. We had tickets to see him play. Not reviewing his music (which was fantastic), but the venue. The room we were in was like a black box theater. The room was fairly small and intimate. It was open seating and when we arrived it was pretty full. We were very fortunate that there were two seats open in the third row. The room is acoustically sound (pun intended)... Seriously, being small, they really don't need to amplify the sound, even though they did have a microphone set up. As we were leaving, we got to roam the halls around the school. There were a lot of fun, vintage posters that were a lot of fun to look at. We met quite a few people who either had been students there, or were current students who had nothing but good things to say about the caliber of the educators and the Old Town School. Based on the performances we've seen there of students and faculty, I'd say we agree.

This update is regarding a visit to OSF was to attend their Wiggleworms open house. I've left the…read moreoverall rating the same because OTSFM is still great for a lot of reasons, but the Wiggleworms class isn't one of them. I've heard of the class before and always thought if I had a kid I'd take them, but I think the age range starts at 6 months so we started with a class with a different provider, Music Playhouse of Chicago. I'm glad we came to this one to try it out. While the kids seemed to be having fun, I didn't like it as much as the Music Playhouse class. Wiggleworms doesn't seem to have a developed curriculum. This was just an activity where the kids can grab shakers and toys, and the leader will sing what they want or take requests from the kids, but not a class that has any kind of particular learning outcomes upon which children build. Maybe it was different because it was an open house but I'd have expected they would showcase what an actual class was, and I think it's just not what I prefer. There are some pluses, though. They have weekend classes, which can be hard to find with other music classes for kids. I think it may also be significantly less expensive than the one I take my kiddo to. And they may have a few more babies-only classes than where we go now, which usually has only one of any (depending upon enrollment). I didn't realize before I had a child but there's a huge difference between children of 0-18 months and those beyond, so mixed age classes wasn't my thing at the time. So Wiggleworms has its pros, but overall I'd visit Old Town SFM for the classes and concerts but choose another children's music class.

He was always willing to loan me a towel every time I visited. - The swim program is setup every well! It took me a few rounds to land a spot because it's very competitive but it was worth the wait. The instructors are very knowledgeable and helped me feel more comfortable in the water. Cons: - The pool is cleaned monthly and you can really see the difference of it being recently cleaned vs collecting whatever in the pool. - The locker rooms could use an update and a deep cleaning. I wish they had a mix of short lockers with the full sized lockers so we don't have to stuff all of our items into multiple lockers when it gets colder outside.

Lincoln Square in particular I love because of the amenities and staff. The sauna and steam room have become a regular part of my routine, especially after a rowdy weekend when I am looking to get back to baseline faster. The equipment at LSAC is solid, with a heavy focus on free weights, cables, and cardio. Like any of the CAC locations, if you are looking to throw out gnarly 200lb vanity lifts on machines, just get a membership at Planet Fitness and save yourself the trouble, you might even find folks at the big box gyms to cheer you on! The staff is friendly and accommodating, and given that I am a visibly queer/trans person, I have never had issues using the locker room I am most comfortable in. Staff and members alike never look twice at me post-top surgery, something that genuinely wasn't true at places like PF or LA Fitness. If you're looking for a well rounded gym to truly work on your health and physique, you probably won't find one at a better price point. Like all gyms, be wary of cancellation policies and just pay the extra $5 a month to be month to month rather than locking yourself into annual contracts. If you think CAC is hard to get out of, I encourage you to try to get out of PF membership that you opened before moving to another state (hint: I literally had to close my bank account and open a new one because THAT was easier). Happy lifting, and be reasonable in your expectations of a gym, there really aren't a ton of good ones out there, but CAC is an outlier.

And supposedly my card on file was not valid for the month of January 2026. But the same card was valid all of 2024 and 2025 and they sure took my money. I decided to spend my money else where. If you want to learn tango, I'll say this is the place to come and teachers to see. So far I love every lesson I have taken and I will continue my journey with them. Their Almagro studio is amazing, inviting and feels like you are in a piece of heaven where you forget about any negative energy and all you want to do is unwind and dance. Fridays they have Milonga which is a social dance event and you can come and show off your dance moves, great for socializing and meeting great people. I highly recommend this place along with the instructors.

They emphasize on clean form, style and musicality and will present us different argentine maestros teachings in an easy to grasp method . They know how to mix instruction with fun and playfulness . They are generous with their 1 on 1 guidance and corrections and are both very nice and caring of their students. It is always refreshing to be surprised with the creativity they bring to a class . Sometimes Hernan starts sharing his historical facts on the argentine tango music and the great orchestras of the time ,or would tell a story on a specific song origins or translation. Neat isn't it! I encourage you to try this form of dance with Daniela and Hernan.They will work their magic on you too.
