Love this Gym, just wish it had a Bootyroom. The one trust machine is facing the gym and if you don't wear undershorts, you can see peoples dumbbells. No one is hardy there early morning so that's the best time for me. Good machines even some old school ones, and place smells nice and they have working A/C! I know there's currently construction so I hope that includes more bum machines. I also don't even know if the side rooms are accesible? Like can we train in the outside gym? Can we get a little map to know where everything is now that there's some moving going on? Like I just seen the turf room, but is it only for trainers? The only bad thing here is one of the trainers but he's not worth giving this place less than 5 stars because it really is a good gym and very LGBTQ+ Friendly. read more

This review is specifically for the WERQ class that I took! Some friends and I signed up for this as a fun way to get in some exercise. This was my first time at Cheetah Gym (and taking this class!) so I wasn't too sure what to expect. The gym is pretty tiny, with an open two story concept, although I didn't get to see the second level since my class was on the first floor, so it may be more spacious up there. The check in process was simple, and if you have ClassPass, you can actually take advantages of the group fitness classes here regularly without having a membership. I paid the one time drop in fee of $20, which is a fair price for group fitness classes in the city. I wasn't quite sure what to expect, but oh man this class was fun!! It's kind of like zumba but at a faster pace than I've ever done before. Newbies be warned, most of the folks in the class are regulars and they've been doing these dances for multiple weeks, so they know the moves! They aren't actually teaching you the steps, it's more about picking up the moves as you go. Still, everyone is just having a good time and so focused on getting the dance down themselves, it doesn't matter if you're completely clueless (like me!). Our instructor, Abbie, was so motivating and kept our energy up throughout the entire class! I had so much fun, and definitely would come back again. read more

The instructor provided yoga poses that were designed for beginners and gave alternative ways to increase the intensity if you are more advanced. The atmosphere of the room was comfortable, however there were loud bangs on the ceiling from other classes going on. I would definitely recommend trying out this class. read more

I have been with Cheetah for almost two years. My overall experience at Cheetah has evolved over time, and I will break it down into the Good, the Bad. Good: Overall, the gym is managed very well. I have always considered Cheetah to be mid to higher tier. There are never shortages of towels, and any machine that has been out of service for too long is quickly fixed. I have never experienced a shortage of equipment I need. The staff is helpful, and the bathrooms are very clean. And the aesthetics is very inspiring and the overall gym culture is very welcoming for all sorts of body types. Bad: As Cheetah has gained more members, wait times for equipment have increased. There is also an abundance of trainers who frequently interrupt general members because they need to prioritize their clients. Unless you go at specific times, the squat racks are often occupied by trainers who do not care if you are trying to access them. read more

Reopened 7/1/20 - I'm back baby! (Frank Costanza voice) Felt good to hit the weights again. Working out at home isn't the same. So much easier at the gym. I don't fear corona but I'll respect corona. I probably already had it in February. Illinois says face masks are now mandatory at the gym. Hopefully this doesn't last forever. I do not where masks outside (judge me) but I will at the gym if I have to. I don't want to but I'm not ignorant. I'm a nice guy. I went today at 5pm ish. Pretty empty. It is the first day back. Stay at home and blame the quarantine for getting fat. :) Staff is nice. The young lady who cleans is constantly wiping down equipment. People who workout here are generally strictly business. You come to get a good workout for 60-90 minutes. Get the pump. Get on your way. It's nice walking 3 minutes to the gym. #spoiled read more

As a long-time member of Cheetah Gym, over the years I have nothing but high praise for Cheetah Gym and it's wonderful staff: Angie, David, Nich, Shannon, Steve and others, not to mention instructors like Heather. They are all so helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. Whenever I have questions about the equipment, without even asking, they will walk back to the equipment, explain how to use it until they're sure I understand, and even give a demonstration. Even the maintenance staff are friendly and helpful. Cheetah has a warm, inviting community vibe where anyone should feel inhibited or uncomfortable. The gym is always very clean and the equipment updated and in fine working order. As gym facilities go, Cheetah's environment and ambience is perfect and conducive to a great workout and achieving results. read more

After having horrible experiences at another gym, particularly since the onset of the pandemic, I returned to Cheetah after many years away. And I have been pleasantly surprised! It is so much better than it was. Granted -- COVID has diminished the active membership, so right now it is enjoyably uncrowded no matter when I have gone. This may change if the pandemic ever ends -- omicron willing. But for now, the members are INCREDIBLY conscious of public health. The gym provides mini bottles of cleanser and towels for our use, and members actually use them. In the two months I have been a member, I can count on two hands the number of times I have EVER seen masks inappropriately worn. And I can count on ONE hand the number of those who didn't correct the issue themselves. People are friendly. Back in the day, it had a very "cruising" vibe. Now people seem to be mainly all business. I miss the sauna, closed for pandemic reasons. But it is a small gap. The machines are clean and well maintained. And the staff has been AMAZINGLY helpful, responsive and friendly at every encounter so far. The WERQ and GROOV3 classes are terrific, and I am enjoying the mellower Sunday "Smooth Grooves" class, as well. If there are negatives, I would say that while Cheetah has everything you would need, and a great variety of cardio machine options, some of the weight machines are older models, that aren't quite as ergonomically effective as newer models of the same machines. Also, the cardio class schedule is more limited than I'd like. I know that COVID has had a financial impact on the gym. I am hoping that more classes will be added sooner rather than later. Cheetah is more expensive than my previous gym. But the atmosphere and peace of mind during these tumutuous times is worth every penny to me. read more

This gym is probably the best gym I have been to when I am away from home. If I lived here I would be a member. They have the standard commercial gym stuff on their main floor. 2 squat racks, 2 benches, 1 incline (That actually adjusts angles all the way to flat), 1 decline, 1 seated military press (front and rear racking), DBs up to 120s, various flat, adjustable, decline, and military benches for DB use, treadmills, ellipticals, rowers, bikes, classes etc. But what makes this place awesome are their machines! I don't use machines much except when I am here. All the standard selectorized and Free Motion machines, but its the variety! They have 5 plate loaded back/lat machines (not many places have that)! This places is a great mix of old school and new school equipment and somehow does not feel crowded. A good gym should have equipment to accommodate for all types of training, and this does. Equipment for powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding, and everything in between. They have added a training area downstairs which looks great with sleds, turf, and more racks and DBs. Would love to rate this neighborhood gym more stars but the price (which does no include classes like other gyms) does not match the service and facilities. The steam room has been closed for months without an update. Since the gym has limited amenities and is priced similarly as the higher end gyms in Chicago. As much as I'm a fan of the gym, I'm extremely over the valet. They have been giving me a "you don't belong here" vibe for the entire year that I've been a member. I've 1) heard snarky remark about not being diagonal enough in my spot 2) watched one guy only hold the parking pass by the tip of his fingers like the black was going to rub off on him 3) gotten hostile stares from a third one. Then yesterday one rep just refused to let me into the lot. I repeatedly asked him was the lot full. While blocking the entrance, he kept yelling about me having to park on the street. I asked why. He could never respond. He just kept repeating to park on the street. Finally I drove around him. He blocked the entrance even more. I asked for at least the fifth time was the lot full. His response, "Are you going in the gym?" Why in the WORLD would I be driving into the entrance if I wasn't going into the gym? All the front desk people know me. At least a handful of instructors know me by name, and one even screams my name out if he sees me from across the gym. There is no possible way he does not know I'm a member when I hand a pass to this man at least three to four times a week. I am super over it. There's only so many times that I can just ignore what seems like passive aggressive racism (or at least profiling) from this valet group. ------------------------- On a separate note, and when I park on the street instead of the parking lot, it's all love. My favorite classes are WERQ and Zumba with Shanae (who ALWAYS nails the routines and makes me want to dance harder), WERQ with Spencer (who is surprisingly upbeat on a Saturday morning) and Pilates with Rachel (whose class I've been consistently going to since I joined). I like Shauna B's yoga classes, mainly because it's more about stretching and toning and less about tricks. I've gone to a bunch of other yoga classes, but I just honestly don't care about standing on my head or backbends. I just want functional flexibility, and she's my ideal yoga instructor. Although I didn't last in kickboxing, Jason is always pleasant, friendly and precise. He means business in his classes, and I tried as much as possible to pay attention to all of his self-defense techniques. I highly recommend at least giving his class a shot. I'm far more of a dance/yoga/pilates person, but he's dope. The gym itself is cool. I lose interest in being on treadmills, stationary bikes and weight machines after awhile, but the rebounder is fun to jump on. Personally I like this gym more for the classes. But I have had it up to here with the parking reps. I seriously considered renewing my annual membership, but I'm furious with the parking attendants. At this point, I'd rather find another gym where I can just park in the parking lot and not deal with them at all. read more

I recently switched over from LA Fitness and couldn't have made a better decision! This place has everything, from the versatile machines to the free towel service! I'm not a huge class person, but I still decided to add on classes since it was only 10$ more a month, and I've really enjoyed some of the boot camps in their functional training studio. I can't say enough how much cleaner this gym is than other places I've been at! Someone is always making sure weights are properly put away and wiping down equipment. So far so good at Cheetah for me. I joined about a month ago after being a member of LA Fitness and also my neighborhood park district because I wanted a different vibe and more group exercise classes. I popped into Cheetah one morning for a tour and to grab some information and was surprised by just how friendly and low-key everyone was. There was absolutely no pressure to sign up or join and I was given a pass to come try the gym for free at any point within the next few weeks. I've tried a few bootcamp classes so far and find the instructors to be friendly, encouraging, and supportive. Towels are always available (they're included in membership fees so they better be) and the facility is really clean and well maintained overall. There's also plenty of space and access to pretty much any machine or equipment that you need at all hours of the day. If I did have to muster a complaint it'd be that it's not a particularly diverse environment but it reflects the neighborhood so I can't expect too much in that regard. Also, there's parking in back but in the afternoons and evenings you have to get a pass to hand to the attendant. The pass says "gratuity appreciated but not required" but it's still pretty awkward handing the gentleman the pass without any money because he clearly expects it. I can't tip someone every single time I go to the gym though so I guess I'll just have to deal with his disappointment. read more

LEMME TELL YOU: it was an hour of beautiful amazing FRIGGEN HIGH OCTANE movement and if it weren't for the group energy ya girl WOULD NOT HAVE MADE IT. My Apple Watch stats are off the friggen charts. I had to sit down in the shower. I have never been so BLISSFULLY HIGH on endorphins. 10/10 would recommend. Get the fix you miss getting at clubs on a Friday night in a safe covid-friendly space. Angie for president, she is unstoppable. read more

The Good The staff and most of the members are friendly and there's ample equipment and free weights. Every once in a while you meet a rude member who monopolizes a machine or some specific equipment with little regard for others, but that happens at every gym. The trainers, while I have never used them, are very good at what they do. There's free WiFi and a few computers for your usage. Nice touch! The Bad: They have a large weight room with high ceilings that's horribly hot during the summer months. I mean epically hot! It's extremely uncomfortable. I really think management doesn't care about the issue. Many of the weight benches have tears in the vinyl covering, some of the tears go down to the wood. They've been in the same state of disrepair for years with no sign being fixed. The showers in the men's locker room have soap dispensers, however they are frequently empty. I fail to understand why they don't check them regularly throughout the day. read more

Love this gym for 15+ years. I've been a member on and off, starting at the Wicker Park location and then in Andersonville. Not sure if they are even affiliated anymore, but this review is for the Andersonville location. I am quite satisfied with the layout, equipment variety, and gym condition. Everything works, and the arrangement is intelligent. There is always ample room around the different stations, and you can always find a quiet space. What really sets this gym apart is the people. A body positive vibe is palatable, and everyone, from staff to guests, is so respectful. I feel very comfortable and safe working out here. The steam room and chilled face towels another big plus. The downstairs stretching space is a great way to wrap up your workout. So thoughtful that they've located some of the ab equipment down there. Not too much of a group exercise class person but i have enjoyed the Werk class. Fun instructors with a lot of energy, you can burn a ton of calories without even realizing it. read more

Cheetah is a good place to workout. It has pretty much all the machines you need at a gym, great classes (Although, I have only attended 2 types), and it is clean. The manager, Angie, is great! As are all of the employees that I have met in the past 2 years. My partner and I have been members at Cheetah, and never felt pressure to join. It is not like the "bad gyms" that sign you up and you can never get out of the contract. Yes, it is old....as are most of the buildings around Andersonville, but it has character. read more

I shared my opinion of cheetah gym on social media and an employee by the name of Shannon T. decided to look me up on cheetah gyms database and post confidential (and inaccurate) information about me on a public Facebook page. Not only is this behavior very creepy, immature and unprofessional but it may be illegal. From my experience the staff at cheetah gyms other former locations were rude, snobby, arrogant and based on Shannon's behavior (and other reviews) this last and only location is no different. Cheetah Gym charged my credit card for months after I tried to cancel my membership to the point where I had to cancel my credit card. Even after that I received several phone calls a day from collections for several months. You're better off spending your money at a gym that values and respects its customers. It's clear why they're other locations went out of business and I'm sure this one is not too far behind. EDIT: It is illegal. I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the Illinois attorney generals office. Edit 2: This review somehow got deleted for the second time. If you don't like what I have to say you can address me directly the way your snobby little front desk clerk did on social media. Just joined following 10x visit Groupon trial. I have a track record of tough reviews on gyms, but I consider Cheetah to be the best "Neighborhood Gym" in Chicago hands down. Overall cleanliness, equipment condition, multi-workout options, unobtrusive music and culture all go into my review. Highly recommend for just about anybody including strength, cardio, classes,weights/machines....it's all covered. Most impressive about the gym is the mutual respect among members. Very rarely if ever have I seen a dumbbell or free weight not re-racked. Not a lot of hot dogging and tank top posing....pretty cool atmosphere for anybody. Lastly, the gym layout is awesome, which encourages a free flow of workout. read more

I'm giving five stars bc it's a fantastic place, but I will throw out there first that the one deduction in my book is that as a member who has referred THREE people who became members, I didn't receive any kickbacks :( Especially irking when one of my friends (who makes more $$ than I do but is also a student) was able to get a $39/month subscription and I still have $49/month. Not a huge deal, but for the one gym I ever join to not offer any referral bonuses.../: But nuff said, here are all the perks: - still lower cost than most gyms - beautiful. Who doesn't want to work out amidst exposed brick, hardwood floors, PLANTS (I LOVE PLANTS!!!) and chandeliers?! - queer-ish, relaxed atmosphere, vibe, and culture that is actively not body-shaming. I am speaking for myself, and recognize this may not be true for everyone (note, there is NOT an all-gender locker room, only two binary locker rooms) - but it's definitely not a cis-straight macho gym and they make a point of ensuring safety. I especially appreciate the signage: "F.O.Y.: focus on yourself (don't be a creep)." - even without referral deals, much more affordable than shitty places like LA Fitness, barf. No gimmicks. No outrageous "initiation fees" or fine print contract details. I can go to cheetah and be treated like a human going about my day. Nice staff, no objectification or swindling by staff or fellow patrons. I know, I'm thanking a place for "not objectifying" me. But standards are pretty low these days, and really - I've never felt comfortable in a gym before. This is the first time. No one tries to upsell me on fancy contracts, personal training stuff, whatever. No one judges, no one comments on my body - everyone is just nice and lets me move freely. My friends have echoed similar sentiments. Finally, Cheetah is a longtime supporter of community nonprofits and businesses. Thanks for being here, Cheetah. I have never had a yelp account before. I made one specifically to warn people to stay away from this gym. I signed a year long contract with them back in June when it was my understanding I would be in the area for another year and a half. I recently injured my foot to the point where I got a note from my podiatrist stating that if I continued to exercise regularly at the gym, I may require surgery. I am a waitress, so my intention, since my foot injury will make it too painful stay on my feet as a server all day, is to move back home with my parents and try to find a way to get a car and go find work in an office in the suburbs. I have been apart of a few different gyms. I have had to move several times in the past 7 years. Not once, and I mean not once, have I ever had to jump through so many hoops to quit a gym. Not only did I have to scan over a copy of my doctor's note that says I am not able to work out, they are now asking me to provide documentation proving that I am moving 25 miles or more away. I tried several times to email Angie, manager of memberships and explain my situation. I told her that no where in my written contract does it state that such documents would be required and her answer to me was that "I should have just known. It's a state law. Look it up!" While speaking with her on the phone she raised her voice at me several times, she mocked me, she laughed at me, she insulted me. Since I was 16 I have worked multiple customer service roles and I have dealt with what I believe to be difficult customers. Not once have I ever even dreamed of treating someone as terribly as they are treating me. Now they're claiming that I can be released from my contract if I go online and send them my receipt for change of address with the post office, but even then I will be charged for another month for a gym, which again, I have been advised by my podiatrist to avoid. After sharing my story with my friends at work and on social media, a lot of people have stepped forward and shared similar stories. One woman moved to New York, provided her lease for her new apartment there, and was still billed for an additional few months. One person worked for a gym owned by this company for three months and never received a paycheck. Another person moved out of the country and they still gave him a hard time ending his membership. Stay away from this gym. Update: Their latest email has stated that I am officially released from the gym and I will only be charged the $50 cancellation fee. Fingers crossed that nothing else goes wrong and I am not accidentally charged for another month. read more

The 3 star rating is due to the gym not paying it's employees timely. I was told directly by several employees about the mistreatment, and you can search various employment sites and see continuous complaints from over the years. I will say that this is a great neighborhood gym, but don't expect a fancy health club. The folks that work there are helpful and I enjoyed working with the trainers. The classes are hit or miss but mostly good. The other gym goers are there to work out and are always pretty good about reracking / picking up after themselves. Most of the equipment is in good shape, with the exception of some of the cardio equipment. The gym is clean and other members are good about wiping down equipment after use. read more

Jason Bender is one of the most notable, he provides Jiu Jitsu and Muay Thai training to kids and adults as well as fitness classes. This place is like a hidden gem in Andersonville. I've lived in the area for a few years now, and after hearing of Cheetah gym from some friends, I decided to give it a try! From the outside, you only see the group classes, some treadmills and squat racks. However, after being given a tour, it was much more than I expected. The second floor has one side dedicated to free weights, there were also more cardio machines, a spin studio, and a lot more cable equipment. The place itself has a real unique feel to it too. Gold antique mirrors, and a lot of wooden accents. It is much more of a homier feel than most other gyms that look like a steel cube. The last floor is where the locker rooms are located, where they also have more ab machines and a stretching area. The instructors that teach the classes really know what they are doing, compared to some other chain gyms I've tried. They try to learn everyone's names and if you are new to a class, they will show you modifications if you are not used to certain positions/intensity. The gym also provides towel service, coffee in the mornings, and there is a parking lot in the back. It is also very well kept, there is always someone cleaning up weights or wiping down the machines. I did the one year contract with classes, and since I joined with my sister we got the partner rate. Not bad for 60/mo, and you also get 1 free guest a month plus a discount at Reza's Restaurant just across the street. read more

Don't get me wrong. The gym is clean, and you can get work done there. Patrons are nice, and the employees are great. I was a member several years ago. If you move to the opposite side of the city or out of the city far away, and want to cancel your membership, they will make it extremely difficult to do so. They are not willing to work with you. You will have to have moved 30 miles from the gym, and be prepared to prove it. They wanted to see a "deed" to my new house, or a mortgage statement. Then they put me into collections. I wasn't exactly 30 miles away, and informed management that driving over an hour in traffic to go to the gym was not convenient, but they still wouldn't work with me. They got the money from me, because I didn't want my credit hit, and I never used the gym again. read more

I've been coming here for .... 8 years? or close to it. Up until about a year ago it was just for yoga classes, and I've had a lot of great instructors. Since then I've started weightlifting and I really like it here. I've had some issues with trainers coming and going, but I don't think that's been the gym's fault. Before I proceed, I want to make abundantly clear that the staff at the facility was very professional and polite. My review concerns the facility itself. First of all, it was Monday 7pm and the gym was empty. I know some guys like it this way, for me, my gym is a social experience. I come to the gym to be among people, and get inspired by people. This was not possible. Peak hour and there were 3.5 people working out. When you first get into the gym, the first thing you notice is the abundance of vintage mirrors and woodwork. Parquetry, brick walls, ocasionally chandelier, and vintage mirrors give an impression that you ended up in some sort of bad-dreamish fusion of Jiffy Lube and a bedroom of Louis IV of France. I kinda get it. The owners are trying to cater to the bohemian elite of Andersonville who is willing to pay $70/month to workout in a library like setting where time seems to be frozen and your workouts flow like molasses. Does this gym have everything you need? Likely, yes. Is it clean and professionally ran ? Yes. Would I look forward to coming and work out there ? No. read more

I was a member here the first time I lived in the neighborhood, and back again, I'm again a member. The environment is comfortable, if a little like a lodge. Large wooden pillars, beams, and rafters. Huge victorian framed mirrors. An abundance of machines always. I never feel crowded, although unlike some other posters, I notice this place can get busy, which personally, I try to avoid. Incredibly convenient for me, living around the corner, I am able to pop in, get a quick workout in, and pop out. The locker room is fairly basic as far as health clubs go. Don't expect amenities of any kind. One slight gripe I've had in the past is the accumulation of mildew in the shower tiling. I feel this has actually gotten better over the years, although at moments, I sometimes have to resist the urge to drop off a bottle of Tilex at the front desk. I am very happy as a member here, and if you live anywhere close at all, I'm certain you would be also. In all, it's a good value, and for what you could expect out of a workout facility, it has just about everything. read more

All right, I'm done with this place. I can normally keep my cool but just can't with the lack of customer service provided here. I cancelled my account in August after being a member for a year, and then shortly moved apartments. I am a fool for not keeping my cancellation notice through the move, because Cheetah conveniently has "no record" of me cancelling. I called once to discuss, was told the person would investigate, never heard back. I called back two weeks later, was told this person couldn't find anything, but she would investigate more and get back with me in the next few days. Fast-forward two more weeks, still no callback, but a new bill. I call in to talk to someone in billing, who tells me there's no record of a cancellation, but I can talk to Adam, the GM. I reach out to him by e-mail, and he says he can apply the two months to another new contract, thus locking me in for 14 months. So instead of cancelling my membership, they can lock me in for 14 months. Not exactly what I wanted. He didn't even acknowledge the fact that because his team didn't reach back out to me, it cost me a SECOND month after I cancelled. Read some of the other reviews about this guy, and you'll see that customer service is not a top priority. This place is like Comcast--okay if it works right and nothing goes wrong, but the second something bad happens it's like all hell broke loose. The irony is, I would've signed up again after a few more months. But I'll take my business elsewhere now. read more

This gym is a solid A-OK. There is a lot that works here. They have 3 different floors each with its own type of workout accommodations and equipment. The free weight room is open and spacious. Since that's where I spend most of my gym time, I'm glad it's the area I liked best. They did have some really old free weights and cable systems which I didn't mind, but some people might. The cardio and machines area was much more claustrophobic and in many ways the antithesis of the free weight room. Elipticals, treadmills and weight machines are smushed together leaving very little breathing room/arm and leg room between each. I had to be careful when getting off the cardio equipment to not elbow or bump into the person on the machine next to me. I've never seen that before. The staff is super nice and the decor is modern and simple with exposed brick walls and wood beam rafters. I dig this place and would definitely come back to work out here again on future visits. read more

The Andersonville location smells like a toilet & half the elliptical machines either don't work or their TVs don't work. There is nowhere to park by the Bucktown location, which makes it very annoying to get to. But by far my biggest complaint is that they will absolutely not let you out of your contract when you move unless it's over 30 miles. So if I move 10 miles, I'm supposed to drive an hour each way in the middle of traffic after working all day? I only joined this particular gym because it was close to my house and I could walk. Now I'm basically paying money for nothing. I definitely recommend not joining unless you're absolutely sure you won't be moving anywhere for a long time. And even then....there are better gyms out there for sure. read more

This is, hands down, the best traditional gym I've been to. I'm not big on traditional gyms, but this one holds a special place for me. It's a completely comfortable environment, and it's aesthetically pleasing (the building, not the people...well, the people, too, I guess). Anyway, there's parking in the back, it's reasonably priced, and classes are included (they get packed, so get your spot early!). Like EVERY gym anywhere, it gets crowded after work hours. I used to work out at Cheetah Gym when my best friend Sage used to live in Chicago. I used to stay with him whenever I get a Chicago layover. He had a membership here, and since he could bring a guest, I was able to get in for free! He used to live in Andersonville, so it was conveniently located near his house. It's a bitch to find parking though, but they have nice facility, and great equipment! lol read more
