And that THRIVE was only suable for the monthly membership by Arbitration in Texas & I would have to file against Thrive in Texas is bull crap. So NOW that THRIVE has responded to my review here, I will contact the Maryland Veterinarian Board.

This is the third cat that they have saved and supported though their senior years. One of my cats had a rare and delicate chronic illness with a low life expectancy and they sustained her through her senior years.. I think it is importance to point out that Norbeck has been serving the Olney Silver Spring Ashton area for generations. It is one of the few existing community single local veterinary providers in the area. The area and the country are now being taken over by impersonal national veterinary chains that are providing corporate medicine. At Norbeck you are not a number - your animal and the owner is part of their local practice.

The scale wasn't in the room, and they made my poor, sick dog walk a very long distance through other rooms the hall until the doctor--who was very nice--rightfully intervened, said, "Let's not walk this weak dog anymore," and laid him down right there. After two X-rays and bloodwork, it was clear his kidneys and liver were failing, and he was dehydrated. It was time to say goodbye.Unfortunately, the compassion shown by the doctor did not carry over into how the technicians handled the initial euthanasia process. The doctor was not in the room when it started. Instead, two young female technicians propped my dog up vertically to try and insert a large needle into the top of his leg. When that failed, they began shaving his other legs to try again. I asked why it would work on the other legs when it failed on the first, especially given how dehydrated he was. I will never forget the pitiful, painful look on my dog's face as he gazed up at me while they repeatedly tried to push that large needle into his vein. I told them we were taking him to the car so he could at least feel like he was going home, as he loved car rides. The staff apologized and said the doctor would come out and use a "butterfly" needle. It turns out the butterfly needle is a tiny, far less painful option. The doctor came out to the car, and while our dog laid calmly in our laps, the doctor expertly inserted the tiny needle so we could hold him as he passed. Why the technicians didn't immediately use the smaller, less painful butterfly needle--or why the doctor wasn't the one guiding the procedure from the very beginning--is beyond me. To top off a highly painful and unnecessarily traumatic situation, the final bill came out to over $700. Charging that much for two X-rays, bloodwork, and a botched, agonizing final moment is completely excessive. While I appreciate the doctor's kindness and quick action in the car, the lack of empathy and competence from the technicians during my dog's final moments left us heartbroken.

Also, I really appreciated the fact that they did not try to recommend (rather force) 80 million "unnecessary" things for our pup. For the most part, making an appointment was fairly simple and we only had to wait about 1.5 weeks for routine checkup. Similar to other places, you have to provide a deposit to confirm the appointment; I think the deposit was around 88 bucks. Unfortunately, I don't believe they have an online system for making appointments so you would have to call for scheduling. I think this was fine, but since you have to pay a deposit to confirm your appointment, I prefer not giving my CC number over the phone. But, hey, it is what it is. For the most part, check in was easy. However, I have to admit that I was slightly annoyed bc the receptionist indicated that the office had not received our dog's health records from his prior vet and animal rescue. About a week prior to our appointment, I emailed the documents and even called a few days after sending these documents to confirm receipt. That said, the receptionist mentioned that the office recently switched to a new system, so I'll brush that off as a technical glitch. Also, since this was our dog's first visit, I don't think we will need to worry about this in the future because he now has a record at this animal hospital. But if you are a 1st time visit, definitely call to confirm receipt of your animal's records and maybe even bring a hard copy with you to the first visit. My experience was vets in the area is limited. However, I thought the prices here were a bit cheaper than the previous vet we visited. Oh! As of July 2025, 1st timers will receive a $50 discount.

Longer version as a 10 year CUSTOMER. Pros - -They provide veterinary care at a large facility that can do all X-rays, surgeries and grooming under one roof. - Good experience with surgical outcomes, specifically with Dr Rapp. - Front staff- Patrick was always helpful and kind. He was not the only one, but he definitely stood out. - I'll be fair and post this as a positive but they are 1 for 2 on medical emergencies. One time they helped the next day but there was another time they wouldn't let us bring our pet in and told us to go elsewhere. Cons -Financial meat grinder -Not flexible with appointments. Appointments are often a month out before you can be seen. Is your pet just supposed to suffer for weeks? -Everything is at minimum twice the cost as you can get anywhere else. One of the vets breeds miniature schnauzers for profit - where in the world is the integrity in that? -Different vet every time so they even if they did act like they care- they never actually get to know your pets. This also leads to wildly different speculations on treatment. - Just an overall miserable, lousy experience over a ten year period. Everyone seems miserable and unhappy. -I would dread going here every time, but thought there were not any vets out there any better than they are. I was wrong. I found a far superior veterinarian experience. I have to drive an hour away, but it is absolutely without a doubt worth it. I suggest you do the same.

I cannot recommend this place enough…read more We currently have a 6 year old suspected Siberian cat. He has been healthy all his life. He started coughing and we scheduled a wellness check but turned out to be a sick visit and they ran tests and considered all possibilities and proposed all possible diagnosis. I thought it was a quick visit but it ended up being 2 hours long. We then got referred to an emergency Pet Hospital where our cat stayed overnight to get more testing and drugs and left with medication. We were crying! A week in, his condition improved. But along the way, we were both novices in administering the oral liquid syringe medication and asked them if NVA could help us and they agreed! It's great to know that they are accommodating. Then an emergency came up and we aren't nearby and my dad has to bring our cat to NVA just to administer the medication. My dad doesn't know how to administer the medication. NVA agreed to help on short notice and show my dad how to do it. Honestly, without NVA, we would be lost and confused on how to take care of our cat. They are thorough and caring for pets and it shows. Even when things were looking grim for us, it was great to know that NVA had our back.

She is afraid of the sound of footsteps and will hide. The first day she stopped eating because of fear and there was a 6 day period she didn't eat. Lakeforest Vet was horrible. They didn't do anything and charged me $1400 which my bank gave me back because they never fed her and placed her in an area with barking dogs. They said they were afraid of her! I wound up at VRA and they got her eating thru a feeding tube until she ate on her own. They were great. I needed a vet though that is affordable. A very nice woman Rita who is involved with feral cats (TNR) recommended Petvacx to me and said they are used to treating feral animals. They do house visits. Dr Wiley and her assistant Jonathan came to my home and handled my fractious cat professionally and gently. My cat didn't like it of course but she didn't hide when the visit was over. They knew exactly how to contain her with the least stress. They prescribed kitty Prozac for her and also gave her pills for her itching. They were prompt in answering my emails and phone messages. They will call in RXs to the place of your choice. The front office is very capable. They called in the kitty Prozac immediately to Chewy. Dr . Wiley and Jonathan are very knowledgable and I feel my ongoing socializing of my cat will be a success. She is already eating out of my hand and she is curious, roaming the halls and rooms on the second level. My goal is for her to feel comfortable with the whole house and to get used to my husband! A highly respected animal rescue group in the area recommened me to Dr. Bonner. Knowing how thorough and respected the animal rescue group was (they helped me with some kittens I had), I trusted their referral. Dr. Bonner lives up to their referral.
