Our experience began with a visit from the Director of Guest Services and the Administrator. They not only introduced themselves to my wife and me, but also gave us a pictorial directory with phone numbers of ALL the administrative staff. (This never happened before) A major item in any institutional facility is the food. The kitchen staff was amazingly courteous and helpful. The menus were awesome as was the food! The food was expertly prepared and divinely presented. I have never seen my wife enjoy institutional food like she did at the CITADEL. (And that is saying a lot!) The nursing staff was stupendous! We never heard any bickering between or about other staff members. And their willingness to give assistance was "out of this world"! Our experience at other rehabs was like this: "Staff member: 'May I help you?' Me: I would give my request. Staff (if not your nurse) "Oh your nurse is in another area. When she comes back I will let her know." = At the CITADEL it didn't matter if it was your nurse or not = The person at the desk always gave assistance. This has never happened to us at any other facility. The camaraderie between team members was awesome. The OT and PT therapist were exceptional in their relationship with my wife. She is not into self-help. But the Therapists at the CITADEL knew how to get her to want to do the therapy. She was at another facility previously for 70++ days and was unable to walk upon discharge. From there she was hospitalized and then admitted to the CITADEL. After 20+ days she was discharged, being able to walk and ascend the stairs into our home. KUDOS to the therapist team. And a department that is often overlooked but vital to the success of any institution is the HouseKeeping department. Each member was not only friendly, but, fabulous! They were non-obtrusive but at the same time, efficient. YES, we will return to the CITADEL should the need arise. And in the meantime, we highly recommend it to whoever is reading this review.

I like how the hallways were fairly wide and there was furniture to sit down at as well. Parking here isn't too difficult as there are fairly wide spots that go around the whole building and there are multiple entrances into here as well. The bathrooms were also a good size for the number of people that the theatre can seat, so there wasn't much of a line to use them.

I had a parent with a neurodegenerative disease for over six years. During these years, I called…read moreseveral times seeking information about support groups or programs for people with Parkinson's and their family carers. The person I needed to talk to was never in and I was always promised a phone call back. I never got a call. Maybe they're short staffed or have turnover? I figured it would be better to go in person to learn more about programs and services at NSCC. I went once by myself. Another time I brought my sister and yet a third time I brought my mother. We walked around the facility in the afternoon. It's nice, clean and spacious. Unfortunately, every time we went to the reception area/desk, we were told that the person we needed to talk to was not in. I gave them my info and was promised a call. I again, never received that call. My family has lived in Northfield for over 55 years. It's unfortunate that we couldn't connect with anyone from the local senior center, in person or over the phone. It would have been nice to have engaged in some sort of programming. Maybe there was something my dad could have enjoyed. He has since passed away.

She loved living here and participating in all it had to offer. I would tell everyone that while my mom lived here it was as if she was getting younger! Chestnut Square is a community quite unique in how their dedication of care for their residents. It was the best decision made after my dad passed and she did not want to stay in their home where they lived for many years. The friendships my mom made were unbelievable. First and foremost were the staff and residents. They were all some of the warmest and friendliest people I've ever met. Not only were they warm and friendly but extremely helpful and very competent, as well as accommodating. The food was excellent, and the entire building was very clean, well-maintained, and quite attractive. There was plenty of programming and amenities both at Chestnut Square, as well as a short walk away in The Glen Town Center. Just across the street is a beautiful natural area with paved paths, a lake, shops, and plenty of places to explore. During her time at Chestnut Square, Sandra made many close friends and even developed a wonderful, close, and fulfilling romantic relationship with another resident who lived down the hall. The most important thing, however, was the dedication the staff had toward the happiness and fulfillment of all the residents. It really showed how happy everyone was in the community. Pretty amazing! When Sandra's health declined and she needed more assistance, Chestnut Square was able to provide additional on-site support through its phenomenal sister affiliate, Partners in Healthcare. The caregivers from Partners treated her and her loved ones like they were their own family. This was all available in Sandra's original apartment with a very thoughtful aging-in-place model, so she wouldn't need to transfer to another floor or facility. The care was exceptional, providing her with warmth, dignity, and respect. It comes as no surprise that Chestnut Square (a non-profit organization) is driven by their dedication to residents as well as staff--who all seem to really enjoy working there. Our entire experience with Chestnut Square was wonderful and provided the whole family with tremendous peace of mind!

I attended this meeting last Thursday and met many wonderful people. Coffee, popcorn and soda was served while we watched a documentary about WW2 Navajo code talkers. Their restaurant is very simple, but the food is very good, and the prices almost too low. The service is great, and for those of us in our 40's, it makes me feel young to be with so many fun and spry of my elders. So inspiring. I've brought clients in on occasion, as a form of referral as well as a meal, and they seem very impressed by the food and all that is going on there. The programs they offer, such as classes or trips, are excellent from my 2nd hand experience. I've referred several people to their programs and classes, and all have had fairly good to excellent experiences. They offer special trips to events, have concerts enjoy and a choir to join, computer classes to keep up with new technology, games and tournaments, and simply offer a place to hang to share stories. The only negative, which is in the works for them, is their shorter hours. They are looking to stay open a little later, but mostly weekdays only until 4pm. Not bad if you're retired, but more of a challenge for me to pick up information for people who may not live very close, or those who can't drive. Check out their current hours by calling ahead. Come in for a tour, grab a soup or sandwich, and find out what they have!

They only have the basic machines, compared to xsport or la fitness across the street. Complete set of DB's, ample BB's. Lots of attachments for cable exercises, they have a mini running track that goes around just like at LA fitness in morton grove. People that ive worked out so far seems good and nice, they return weights to.its proper place (pet peeve of mine) they seem to know each other as well which is a good sign. Overall, if youre looking for a clean, quiet community gym to lift and run and dont want the hassle of other people's BS. Review for Harrer Pool parties only: Don't. We contacted the park district 1 month prior to…read moreintended party date to pay deposit to secure the party room. After scheduling and paying deposit for the pool party and confirming we have 1 hour set up and 1 hour post party to clean up, we tried to contact the Harrer pool coordinator for room specs, table number, size, chairs and equipment availability so we know what we needed to buy or not buy..table covers wall decor and such. Nothing. Emails and phone calls not returned. Was contacted 2 days prior to party by the new coordinator only to be asked about the cake. Coordinator told my daughter, the birthday celebrant's mom, we had to be out of the room exactly at noon. We were pushed out at 1145.. why? They had their own party to go to. Will never opt for a party space that NEEDS to have a coordinator on site. Have used the field houses for parties before and will continue to use them again. OR will rent Oriole Pool party room and instead (as long as that particular "party planner" is NOT part of the deal) So terribly disappointed.
