It really has that trailer park feel. Mostly long term residents. I recommend trying to get a spot at one of the two ends. They are more grassy and have trees and mostly traveling RVs. We ended up in the middle of the park. No trees, surrounded by long term residents and a muddy mess. My biggest issue though is loose dogs. Not only did we see dogs running around loose, they also left several large craps right in front of our door. Which then brought out all the flies. Ok for an overnight stop, but I wouldn't hang out here.

Birds chirping & wild deer & turkeys gobbling make this a calm & relaxing space! Some permanent & traveling workers here too. They have showers & a laundry but we weren't in need of any. The managers, Jason & his wife were super friendly & said if you need anything don't hesitate to let them know. 50amp full hookups & a creek is near by. Jason actually came by & took my hubby to check out the fishing hole in his golf cart. Only 22miles to Casper Wyoming where if you need anything they have it! We are here for three nights & it's been very relaxing!! Would stop here again if we come by this way again!!

Lewis Park is a nice city park located in Wheatland, Wyoming. So...you would think for a city park…read morethey'd offer a playground, picnic canopies, soccer fields...etc. Well yes, Lewis Park offers all that...AND MORE! And the reason I'm saying MORE than your average typical park is because they allowed camping on the grounds. Camping? Really? Wow...cool for me. That's exactly what I was looking for! Here I was, in this random town of Wheatland...just off the main road of Interstate 25 running through the heart of Wyoming. This Lewis Park was an absolutely suitable place for me to pull over along my travels and rest up for the night. I discovered Lewis Park through the app on my phone called Campendium. I can't recommend Campendium enough for locating random campground and RV Parks on the fly. Along my cross country road trip...this Lewis Park was the only city park where they actually offered camping. Ya know...most of the places I visited were specific campgrounds and or RV/Trailer Parks...yet this place was a park for anyone and everyone to use. They permitted tent camping right on the outskirts of the main soccer field! Here were some great aspects to Lewis Park... When I read the entrance sign...it said it was free to camp! Hmmm...even better. I think they could have easily charged $10 for the night and no one would have taken an issue with that...yet it was free! You don't have to sign up or reserve a site...just first come, first served. There were specific rules mentioning that you could only camp for 3 nights within a 30 day period. The camping area was situated in a little designated area good for about 10 sites. When I came here back over the summertime...it was myself and two other families camping. So...it wasn't busy at all and overall...it was extremely quiet which was great for me to enjoy the fresh outdoor setting. Unfortunately they didn't feature showers or restrooms, but for free camping in a city park...I wasn't even expecting those types of amenities, lol. At least there was a vault toilet located next to the mini golf section. Yeah, nice...they offered mini golf here, though with this 2020 pandemic going on...I wasn't exactly sure if the course area was closed. Well, I didn't see anyone playing. My only issue to get to this vault toilet and the mini golf area from the camping grounds was having to walk around the entire soccer field. So, it was a bit of trek...but no big deal ultimately. I would also mention that this section for camping didn't have the most comfortable ground for making up my tent. I was sort of forced to set up on hard, dirt soil while meanwhile the camping area faced the soccer field where there was fresh fluffy grass much more suitable for pitching a tent. Yeah, it would have been a perfect night's rest if I could have moved my tent onto the soccer field, lol. Oh well...I was satisfied with just being here and having some time to rest and relax before heading to Casper, WY. What I very much appreciated were the picnics tables set underneath canopies. I noticed a family having an afternoon birthday party. This Lewis Park was perfect for something like that. Since there were multiple tables and canopy areas set up around the park...I was able to locate a few electrical outlets underneath these canopies good recharging my phone and portable generator. And...there was good cell phone reception here for browsing the Internet and checking my social media posts, lol. Btw, right beside this park was any necessities you may need from the town of Wheatland including food, gas and supplies. Overall, this Lewis Park was a great stopping point to pull over while driving. Taking in a pleasant summer night's evening here was worthwhile. Granted the town of Wheatland is very small...but I'm really surprised for a city park like this with so many great attributes for local residents to hang out here during the day...that no one has yet to write a review about this place. Regardless, I'm happy to give it some recognition. And for any adventurers or road trippers out there needing a practical spot to set up a tent and camp for free for the night, I recommend this Lewis Park.

I had read that Hell's Half Acre was a fantastic roadside attraction and it did not disappoint! After spending the prior day servicing my car, grabbing supplies, food and gas in Casper, Wyoming for continuing on my summer journey...I then headed straight here to witness if Hell's Half Acre was as good as what I had seen on the internet. Yeah so it's located 44 miles west of Casper and I simply plugged Hell's Half Acre into Google Maps and had no problems finding it. Reception along Highway 26 in Wyoming was just fine for me. And...it's as basic of a roadside stop as it gets. No sugar coating anything. There's a sign saying that I was here and I easily turned into the parking lot. At first I thought to myself....um, "maybe this won't be good?" Is this really what I drove all the way here for?" But...upon getting out of my car and heading straight to the overview...I was quite impressed. It was beautiful. For anyone who knows and appreciates the badlands scenery and terrain....then Hell's Half Acre is for you! I was very appreciative. Not only were the badlands expansive and dramatic, but they were colorful as well. I'd say there were lots of purple and white colors embedded all along the cracks and curves. It was pretty. Now...okay yeah, so there's a fence built up surrounding the entire overlook. But, I mean cmon...there was no way to truly enjoy what Hell's Half Acre was all about while standing behind a fence. No way! So...along not 1, but 2 parts of the fencing....there were easy spots where I crawled underneath the fencing to access closer views of the badlands. Yep I did this! For sure! I mean...there were no security guards and or enforcement on duty to prevent you from getting a closer look. There was virtually no one even there. And for me...I'm not the type to risk my safety just for photos, but I promise...crawling underneath the fencing was perfectly fine. The 1st area I crawled underneath was off to the side while I was investigating even if Hell's Half Acre could be better accessed. It was off to the left hand side while I ventured away from the parking area. I crawled underneath, walked along an entirely lengthy and grassy area that extended pretty far, but...I got much better aspects to the badlands for my picture taking. It was definitely worth it! The 2nd part where I found the best spot to crawl underneath the fencing was right at the immediate and main parking lot. Basically, you can't miss it....because, all you have to do is look for the area and spacing available where an actual human body can fit properly under and then you'll know it's the one, lol! Once again, this 2nd spot was right at and or in the parking lot. And...this is where I received some pretty magical views from. It was quite memorable! Once I crawled under the fence I then walked towards the end of the ledge/viewpoint....and I promise....this was totally safe and in no way did I put myself in any type of endangerment. But yeah...this viewpoint from the ledge was fantastic. I was able to see the badlands much better and my perspectives weren't hindered with a fence! My photos came out wonderfully, especially because I visited in the morning with the sun appearing at my back. And from this angle, I snapped plenty of terrific pictures as the badlands offered so many different aspects to gaze upon. Funny, for what you'd expect to be quick a roadside stop....since I discovered these 2 spots to crawl under the fence...I actually spent about 90 minutes hanging out. Overall I just admired what Hell's Half Acre was about. And yeah, for being in the middle of nowhere...I was quite happy and left here with a sense of fulfillment for having visited. From Hell's Half Acre I was continued along my drive 82 miles northwest towards Wind River Canyon Scenic Byway and eventually to one of the best drives in the USA....Beartooth Highway ultimately leading into Yellowstone National Park. I highly recommend making an effort to see what Hell's Half Acre is all about. The statuesque badlands at this roadside stop were very photogenic and I really enjoyed my time here. And I promise...crawling under the fencing to gain more accessibility to the viewpoint of the badlands was quite fine! No one was even around when I visited in August and it certainly made for my photos to be much more cherishing now when I look back upon them.

We didn't even see another visitor while looking around, but it is absolutely surreal. I wish we could see more, the whole view was closed of with metal fence. If there was a facility with entrance fee and somebody to show us in, we would happily pay and take the tour. Locals call these places badlands. You might not be able to grow crops in this area, but we found it very special. I believe I read that Indians were using the area to hunt.. they would make large herds of animals jump off the cliff while trying to escape.
