There was a large party of 36 in for a birthday and the pub had catered a buffet style lunch, looked like your usual buffet food but I thought that was a great idea. Our food was lovely, typical fish and chips with minted peas and tartare sauce. The sausage and mash was delish but the fried onion rings and tempura chicken combo meal was a bit greasy. The house white was nice, only £12.....decent for a pub lunch but nothing fancy.

Recently refurbished, they have split the main bar away from the Bistro to allow children to enter and reduce the noise. Good plan! The menu has been overhauled and they don't have as many dishes on the menu as before which is a lot better for the kitchen ensuring quality over quantity. I ordered King Prawns with Calamari, my mom Haggis Fritters and my sister in law Black Pudding in Breadcrumbs with a Chilli Sauce. No complaints. They were tasty and well presented. We then ordered Balmoral Chicken, Fish & Chips and a Chicken Burger. Portions are extremely good for the price, food was cooked fresh to order and of a good quality. There was only 1 staff member within the bistro when I was in looking after 4 tables, which was okay but we did have to wait at times to be served; not her fault though. The dishes are a little expensive for a Bar Bistro in Erskine, but you'd expect to pay more if you dined in Glasgow for the quality and size of the portions. Our bill for 2 courses and numerous drinks for 3 people came to around £56. Not THAT bad when you think of it. All in all, the Whuppity Scourie is much better than it's predecessors and I hope it's hear to stay.

We had been out at local parks, attractions and DIY stores and on way home, decided to stop into a wee gem I had visited in the past with mum. The Twisted Thistle is in the middle of Old Kilpatrick and area of the village appears shabby but the TT is a modern bar/diner located in the shadow of the Erskine Bridge. The interior is very modern and kitchen is open where food prep can be viewed. It has a mix of tables for usual covers and open area with couches for bar adjacent for relaxed vibe. Both were reasonably busy but not overly so. Originally we ate here on a previous occassion as the Lusset ( a former old haunt) didn't do food any more - and sad to say it was very, very run down. However, that was to our benefit once we relocated to the TT. This trip around it was a late lunch / early dinner. I opted for chicken goujons and chilli dip with steak ciabatta as mains. Missus had the soup n sandwich deal. Our youngsters opted for the kids menu with soup and fish n chips for the wee fella and burger for the youngest lass. All were very happy with speed of service, quality of food and we all had a taste of each others grub. Every one agreed on very good value/taste and quality of meals as well as over all service. For me, the goujons were light and crispy and dip was very aromatic - not too sweet and not too spicy. The steak sandwich was cheapest on mains menu (typically tight) but the roll came with chunky steak sliced with onions and cheese. The ends were a little dry but the middle was moist and tasty. Potentially a little expensive for the location but the OK bunch do fancy themselves as a bit up market :) and it was reflected in the high quality of both grub and surroundings. The ambience for a quite quiet day was really good with some ladies lunching in the comfy seats and some lads propping up the bar area all lending to a good atmosphere. The place is very clean including the rest areas. Unknown to me from the previous visit, I spotted that there is a great function area to the rear, so family events could be catered for too - a nice option to learn about. I would like to visit on a weekend evening to check it out then as it's close enough to home to have a relaxed night out and not need to worry about an extended trek home. Plenty of upcoming events with music / DJ advertised such as Hallowe'en, etc. so another reason to nip down on a weekend and TV monitor was on wall with sound down so may be a good spot for watching any big games? In summary; reasonably priced when quality of experience is accounted for. Very very easily the top spot for eats in the Clydebank area. Upon entering I am greeted by a smattering of old men, some are playing bridge, a handful are reading their papers while one or two appear to be sleeping. Given the ages range from 70-90, I'm dubious many would respond "just chillin" if I enquired as to exactly what they were up to. But I like the Ettrick. It's a traditional, homely bar and the cream of the crop in Kilpatrick. Attracting a cross section of the local crowd, it comprises of a grand bar area and a vast lounge, capable of accommodating large numbers. It's also noticeably cheap, for instance a pint of Tennent's and a roll and sausage (genuinely the most expensive item on the menu at 1.20) will set you back 3.50. Although the pub does show football on large screens, colours are strictly forbidden. First and foremost, this is a community resource for the people of Kilpatrick as a whole, which is why owners work hard to provide entertainment six nights of the week. Never on a Wednesday though.

Drinks are cheap (my boyfriend's Tennents was only £2.30 and my Corona was £2.80). The Ettrick is an example of that dying breed; a true local pub where everyone from eighteen to eighty can feel welcome. A case in point; the last time we visited, a group of teenagers were sitting at a table by the door whereas the table beside us was occupied by a single elderly man nursing his pint with his Daily Record and Evening Times. Another table clacked with the sound of a group of elderly men playing bridge. If you happen to be in the area I would highly recommend The Ettrick for a drink or three.

The bar felt character less and you got the impression that they where trying to dress mutton as lamb it did not work. I found the bar to be cold and needed to put my jacket on l got the feeling that the heating had been turned off or something, the food they serve is the basic food nothing special they have a small menu that suited the bar but you could get most of what they sold from JD Weatherspoon.
