The recent high winds damaged the back yard wood fence between me and my neighbor and having seen the many "Glendale Fence" signs on places all around us I called Mike and Doug right away. They came out to give an estimate and noted what we wanted. There were existing brick columns that needed to be demo'd and all the old fencing to remove. The new fence would use steel posts instead and we wanted a walk gate added so the neighbor's dog can come to play with out dog easily. They came when they said they would, their quote was reasonable and the job was finished as promised without any hassle. The crews they sent out -- one for the brick demo and another to do the new fence -- were both really fantastic and did excellent work! The gate works flawlessly on its steel frame. Very, very disappointed! If you have a small job, these guys will totally ignore you and treat you like chopped liver. After over a month of back and forth and multiple follow ups via email and phone, the new owner, Mike, told me bluntly over the phone that they are fully booked for months ahead, so I have to look for another company. They DID have time to come over to take a look at the job, but after they saw it was a small job they started evading me. Never mind that I lost a month, plus the time it took me to sketch what I want and send it over - all went out the window... Outstanding folks on many levels .... Very swift call back after I left a message asking for an estimate. They arrived at my home quickly. Great communication skills as job progressed. Price was fair and within guidelines for the type of work I requested. The workmanship however was above what was expected. Doug and Mike, family owners, were great. Two other folks performed the work and were terrific as well. The cleanup work they performed when the job was done left my yard cleaner than it was before the work started. No matter what phase of the job, they were always on time when they said they would be here, the job was always on expectations, and completion was on schedule. Being an ISO 9000 trained in my past, I am pretty picky about quality, workmanship, and procedures. You may not think that chain link fencing is rocket science but how people approach a task with multiple solutions is something I observe closely. The dialog on what was my expected end result that would influence form and function was discussed and concise drawings and documentation was provided a few hours after the initial meeting. OK .... sure, these folks are a family run and owned business who have been around the block countless times but experience does not always equate to customer service, quality work, and general overall results. The first company who shall remain nameless took over a week to send me a quote. He didn't even send it to me via email on a proper form. I even changed plans on them and they were able to come back quite quickly to make the changes I requested. What really impressed me, is that they also did little things without me even asking that made all the difference such as making sure my yard was secure overnight when the job was not finished (the posts for the gate had to set) so that I could still let my dogs out. I can't say enough about Glendale Fence and their team. Mike, Doug and their hard working guys (Mario, Roman, etc.) are professional, honest, easy-to-work with, extremely responsive (via email and phone) and build beautiful, high-quality fences and gates. As with any construction project, there were a couple items/modifications I asked Glendale Fence to address during construction and even a few after they were done. For example, some boards we're slightly damaged/bowed--Mike swapped out each of the boards I marked; because the grade was uneven the gap at bottom of fence was larger than I anticipated--Mike added a taller board to fill in the empty space; I didn't know the door handle/lock-set would be gold--at my request Mike swapped it out for silver. Glendale Fence made each of these modifications (as well as a few more) without any change to the price. In the middle of a backyard renovation and decided to replace some old falling apart gates leading out to the back alley. Called Glendale Fence and Mike came out the next morning, in the rain, to take measurements and see what I was looking for. I had a concrete patio and walks being poured the next week. Mike was able to squeeze me in and get his guys out to put their posts in before the concrete was poured. They put up from temporary chainlink gates for me to have a little security and privacy until the final gate installation. After the new patio set they came back and installed some great looking gates. The steel frame is particularly cool to me, I don't have to worry about the wood posts rotting or twisting in the future. It took an extra day for install due to some snags on fabrication but Mike kept me in the loop as to the situation so I don't even think it was that big of a deal. No stars lost in my book, just a great experience overall. read more

I had really wanted to work with these guys but made two separate appointments for an estimate neither of which they ended up coming to. We needed a fence built for a home we are trying to sell and they were aware we were on a deadline but I was willing to wait for them since I knew they would do quality work quickly. They did not show up for the scheduled appointment early in the week. They apologized for the misunderstanding and rescheduled for that Friday and yet never called or came for that appointment either. Perhaps they didn't want to coordinate with my agent who was managing much of the work on the house because I was 8 months pregnant and needing help with it all but I honestly don't understand what happened. ‍ We ended up having our gardener build the fence which took a longer time than a company but was much less expensive than most quotes I got and he did a great job. read more

Wow. We were given a referral to Glendale Fence Company from a contractor whose work we really respect. My husband took the morning off of work to make the appointment with Doug, the owner. We live in the Hollywood Hills. The hills. We have a steep driveway (one which has been used by workers many times over the last 10 years we've been here) which my husband made clear when he spoke with Doug to make the appointment. Doug drove to our house and apparently decided he did not want to drive up the drive way (nor park the few houses away on the street and walk) to make the set appointment. Instead, he called, got the voicemail and said he was passing on the job. No apology, no referral to another fence company. Simply complete disrespect of our time. I imagine they do a good job if they are busy enough to turn down jobs, but it is so disappointing to be treated with such disrespect when trying to honor a local family business. read more

Twenty-three years ago, Glendale Fence Co installed a chain link fence in the hilly area around our home making it unobtrusive in design, and, yet, perfect for corralling our dogs. Through the years, the gate shifted so the it became very difficult to open and close. I called them for some help with the problem. We set a date and time, they arrived, and within twenty minutes they had the gate operating smoothly again. What I thought was terrific is that one of the men who came had installed the gate using a method that was a little different, so he knew exactly what to do.
