'Yay! I'm a fan.'…read more With all this fresh fruit and fresh vegetables available I don't understand how some people would rather choose junk food. You're crazy! Adelaide Fresh Fruiterers are well known for having exceptionally great produce, and I would have to say that I agree with them. I love this store. It's a pretty large store, and everything is always displayed so well. Before you even walk into the store you get to see all the different fruits displayed outside. Everything is so colourful, it's almost hard to resist grabbing the reddest apple you can find and just sinking your teeth into it. Great customer service, affordable prices and fresh produce.

I just couldn't wait to sink my teeth into an apple, straight from the Adelaide Hills, which had me reaching for a Kleenex, juice was literally running down my chin it was that fresh! And the range of apples. What a delight to be re-acquainted with good old fashioned species, along with new ones I'd not heard of before. And before I get totally carried away on just Apples (I'm an Apple 'nerd') I should mention that Adelaide Fresh carry a huge range of seasonal fruits and veggies. The majority of their range is locally grown and produced. But if you reach, as I did without looking properly, for something which is imported, one of the friendly staff will tell you 'it's from China' - oh so good to be alerted to that fact and re-directed to organic Australian grown produce (just for the record garlic was the product in question). As if seriously fresh fruit and veggies wasn't enough, they also carry a good range of natural, organic raw honey. It's not the most extensive range I've seen but certainly large enough to keep the Pooh Bears of us happy, and also my dog who's on natural honey for her allergies. Yep, honey is fantastic for your pooches too. Added to the temptation in this one stop shop, well almost unless you're a carnivore, is a large variety of nuts and other tasty delights. Along with fresh herbs, complete in many cases with their roots still attached. Forget the poor forlorn, sad little bunches smothered in plastic sans their roots, these are the real Mccoy - you just have to smell them. My partner claims the Prospect Store is better but as I haven't as yet sampled their delights, I can only speak about the Fulham Gardens shop. Being in a small shopping center, there' plenty of parking available so it's easy to load the car up after a delightful time wandering around Adelaide Fresh. Last but definitely not least, the shop itself is a delight. No loud muzac or announcements assaulting your ear drums whilst you're browsing. And the staff are very friendly and helpful. They'll answer even the dumbest of questions with a smile and don't mind you snatching at an apple seconds after it's been scan! So do your taste buds and your health a favor and try Adelaide Fresh it really does live up to it's name.

At the Hahndorf Vegetable Garden they try their best to source all of their stock from local suppliers. This family business has grown over the years. They recently refurbished the store and made it a lot larger and offer many more products. It has almost turned into a small supermarket. They stock flours, pastas, sauces, rices, everything you need really. If you want to avoid the big supermarket chains, this is your one stop shop now. The only thing they don't stock is toilet paper, toothpaste, cleaning fluids and the like. All of the produce I have purchased from here have been fresh and have lasted a long time. I sometimes find when I purchase vegetables from the Supermarket they spoil fast. I would like to point out the best produce that I have found at this store is the fruit. In particular the stone fruit when it is in season. You can smell the fruit when you walk in the store. My father always taught me that if your fruit smells good, it will generally taste good. And so far that theory has proven to be correct. So if you are in the hills and need a fruit fix, check it out!

Being in the hills, it's convenient for us and has all our favourite hills brands so we visit at least once every month or so; but we have friends who venture up from the burbs to get bulk veggies. They also sell lump charcoal, plants, and have a baked good section out the front. Worth a visit, and while you're up there, grab some local Adelaide Hills wine from one of the wineries nearby.

They've usually got better quality stuff than the Foodland or Woolies, and are also helpful and know a lot more about their produce. They were a lifesaver for me last Summer, when I'd pop in every week to grab some fresh figs for my cupcakes. From what I've found fresh figs aren't easy to come by in supermarkets down south, so without a tree to pick them from, TC's was a real life saver.

I grabbed a 3kg bag of oranges and lined up at TC's Fruit and Veg in Seaford Central, southern Adelaide. There was one person at each of the 2 cash registers, so I put my bag of oranges down on top of a table of non-orange vegetables for sale and walked between the 2 cash registers to select 3 mushrooms as I passed between the cash registers 2 young people came in the out lane past me. When I came back in the out lane (the same way) between the 2 cash registers, I waited behind the 2 young people, as a male with a trolley was now in the other lane. The 2 young people in front of me finished, to my surprise the mature aged (male) staff at my register said this to me, 'I'm going to serve that man because he was here first.' indicating to the male with the trolley who came along after me, who verbally thanked the male staff member. I stood for a moment not wanting to react in anger. I continued my momentum and placed my oranges and mushrooms on the edge of the counter as the trolley man moved in to be served. I reflected on the fact that the male staff member failed to apologise to me before he said he would serve the other person which was very rude in the first instance. I reflected on the fact the cash register staff member most probably saw me walk out and back in between the registers, if he didn't he was incompetent as a small retail store staff member. I reflected on the fact that when I came back in with my mushrooms, I stared momentarily at the trolley man customer and I know he saw me pick up the 3kg bag of oranges I left on top of the other non-orange vegetables before I walked outside for less than 20 seconds. I reflected on the fact that my 2 items cost more than the trolley man's one item and realised that I had just been a target of gender discrimination by two males about the same age who probably knew each other. They were almost finished with the transaction. No I said to myself as I turned silently walked out the shop towards Woolworths where I bought my required items. I left JCs oranges and mushrooms on his counter never to return. I've lived in Seaford southern Adelaide for 10 years.
